Principal Akbar Cook Is Still Taking Care Of His ‘Babies’ With His ‘Lights On’ Program (Video)

First, a spot on Ellen (see our post here). Now, CNN is covering the Newark (New Jersey, USA) principal. This brother Akbar Cook and his amazing work should keep getting the spotlight on big awesome platforms as an example of what normal people who dare to show extraordinary care can do to make this world a better place!

“When it all gets down to it, we’re saving lives,” says Akbar Cook, the principal of West Side High School in Newark, New Jersey. Cook founded and directs, a program that gives students a safe place to go on Friday nights, when crime and gun violence are prevalent. In the past three years, Cook says, West Side hasn’t lost any students to gun violence.

Common x The Sesame Street Muppets – “Respect” (Give It, Live It) [Video]

Usually only get Sesame Street infused with Hip-Hop when YouTubers take it upon themselves to do their own mashups. But this is cool. Push down that urge to judge it as corny and get the message and where it is aimed: Children (and parents) need this plain & simple direct messaging on RESPECT.

Messaging and respect. That’s as Hip-Hop as it gets, folks. Kudos to Common and all the Muppets on the Street for representing good values.

‘Officer Clemmons’ Speaks On Being Black In “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” (Video)

Hope you got to spend Valentine’s Day celebrating love in some way. I sat down and watched a documentary on a legend who lived a life of love; influencing generations to be better people as he made his way in the world. Man, if only we had Mr. Rogers around now. Rest in peace to the legend Fred Rogers.

Then I found this Great Big Story on ‘Officer Clemmons’ on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. So wonderful!

Remember Officer Clemmons, the policeman from “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood?” Actor Francois Clemmons was initially reluctant to take the role. Growing up in the late ’60s, Clemmons didn’t have a positive opinion of the cops at the time. But Fred Rogers convinced him, and Clemmons became one of the first Black actors to have a recurring role in a children’s TV program.
– Great Big Story

You gotta watch this story and check for the “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” documentary on HBO or on-demand on YouTube. Well worth watching!

What Is The Real Definition of Freestyle (Video)

Interesting. Freestyle vs. off-the-top rhyming. Check out this revisitation of an MTV-televised discussion about historical misunderstandings and their perspectives on what freestyle is for real. Along with perspectives on freestyling in-the-streets vs in-the-industry from today (from Papoose).

The term “Freestyle” is an integral part of Hip-Hop. But what does it mean? This piece delves into the evolution of one of Hip-Hop’s most common, yet most misunderstood terms.

Schools Are Still Separate And Unequal In The Deep South (Video)

The fight is NOT over! We just celebrated MLK Day, and sure, all the crowds were likely integrated to varying degrees… and even Vice President Mike Pence was on TV quoting King… BUT we STILL have MUCH work to do. Time to go back to school(s)… and fix this!

These students are still facing segregation and inequality every day at school, more than 50 years after Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Civil Rights movement.

Started As Some Colonies, Now We’re Here… As A Corporation (Video)

If you hang out with folks in the States who claim Moor as nationality, they might have hipped you to something like this. Or at least tried. Perhaps you really did not take in the knowledge because it was not echoed elsewhere. Well, not trying to proselytize anyone, but here’s a ‘truth echo’ right here. Study, look into things, and THINK for yourSELF!

Plain and simple America is a Corporation since 1871 with the Act of 1871. Finalized in 1938. Rockefellers in the United States. The Rothschilds in England. They own and run the Federal Reserve the Central bank of England and the United Nations is run by them. They both finance WAR for both sides to keep the lies going and but the Corporations are broke. Everything with Syria, Russia, USA and soon to be China falls under this to enslave us with Agenda2030 that was Agenda21 www.republicoftheunitedstates.org GO now!!

Meet The New Principal Of Newark’s Westside High School, Akbar Cook (Video)

Ellen always comes through with the great ‘feel good’ stories. This one on the brother Akbar Cook certainly ranks near the top of that stack. Watch.

Ellen sat down with Akbar Cook, Principal of a Newark, New Jersey high school, who after noticing at-risk students being bullied for dirty clothes, worked hard to install washing machines and dryers so the kids could do laundry. After hearing his story, Ellen teamed up with her friends at Cheerios to help Principal Cook continue to do good and support his “babies” at school.

Take care of the babies, Akbar. Our babies! And bless you, Ellen, for shining the light on this.

Grew up in the South, all her youth, and she made it through… admitted to an Ivy League university, no less. And STILL this sista cannot ‘get away’ from racism in America.

Imagine waking up to find your school trending because of a racist incident?
– Strong Black Lead

Yeah. Don’t EVER speak of America being post-racial. Even in the ‘affluent’ North. Yale was trending on racism.

There Are Almost 8 Billion People On Earth. But How Many Is Too Many? (Video)

PBS picks up the conversation topic Bill Gates was speaking on in the post on here from a couple of weeks back – overpopulation.

Is overpopulation real? Is Earth filling up with too many humans? How many people can Earth hold, anyway? As our species approaches 8 billion, human overpopulation is a major concern for many people.

Why “40 Acres And A Mule” Is No Longer Enough Reparations For Black Americans (Video)

Word on the street, dirt road… hell, everywhere… is that that 40 acres and a mule promised to Black folks in the United States… IS. NOT. COMING. And even if it was, it would NOT be enough to ‘catch us up’ and make things fair & square for how far slavery, Jim Crow, and follow-on disenfranchisement has set people of color (esp. Black people in America) back. The ‘why’ behind this is skillfully “Decoded” above in this throwback episode.

Out of 536 billionaires in the USA, only 3 are Black. Why the stark racial divide? Well, it’s complicated, but it turns out our history of racism has a lot to do with it. From segregated schools that receive less funding in property taxes, to the history of redlining Black homeowners, to the long history of slavery, oppression, and segregation, White families were accumulating wealth. That “old money” has provided the capital for the modern-day billionaires, and even average-income white families, to stay significantly ahead of Black Americans. So how can we fix the wealth divide in America?

How Cousins Removed Fit On Your Family Tree (Video)

Ever wonder how that ‘first cousin’ vs. ‘cousin once removed’ thing works in your extended family. Well, I found a video that can answer all the questions on that. But if you decide to do what I do, and just call most folks at your next family reunion ‘cousin’ or ‘cuz’… I completely understand and support that. Because this explanation can get confusing real quick.

What’s a third cousin twice removed? Do great parents exist?

That ‘great parent’ line though… just watch.
