Brooklyn rap artist Troy Ave has a few joints that I’m digging off of his “New York City: The Album” project that dropped late last year. One of the few negatives I had when it dropped was how similar he sounds to 50 Cent at times on a number of joints. Even the former G-Unit member Tony Yayo appears on a track from the album. Despite these comparisons one of the standout joints from Troy Ave’s project was this joint called “My Grind”. Recognizing the popularity of this particular song, Troy Ave arrives with some brand new visuals to breathe more life into his album & to lure in more fans outside of the New York City area. The grind don’t stop.
This is a rebroadcast episode of Atlanta’s premier hip hop radio show that aired live on Saturday night 5/17/14 from 10pm-1:00am EST on Atlanta’s 100,000 watt radio station WRFG 89.3 FM. In addition to the quality bangers played on the show this week, we also had a few special guests.
Emcee & promoter Mic Sic along with brand spokeman & event host Fort Knox stopped through to give details on a number of events that will take place in Atlanta designed to help upcoming artists take their careers to a higher level.
We also had an interview with media specialist Sam from OffThaRecord.com to speak on her life & journey to Atlanta & her continuing desire to better put the spotlight on new artists & other things of interest.

She told you a couple days ago on the “We’re Already Royals” video: The underdog don’t have no fear! Fearlessly, stepping through genre blockades (alternative to Hip-Hop to Soul and back and forth)… is nothing! Rapping, vibing, vocalizing… easy. Mama Mumu Fresh (aka Maimouna Youssef) delivers “The Reintroduction of Mumu Fresh” mixtape as promised. Rocking over known beats by notable artists touching on relevant human issues all the while (with lively skits and more). Oh yeah. It’s FREE while Soundcloud has downloads for you (hint: get there and get your copy NOW).
More often than not, when a DJ Prince record is out we’re playing it on the radio show. Good bet that this “Test My Sound” mixtape is a good source of bangers. But hey, it’s FREE. You can judge for yourself. Of course, Skyzoo is on there repping for his DJ; along with the likes of Sean Price, Smif-N-Wessun, and !llmind.

DJ Neil Armstrong putting some Hip-Hop sense and sensibility to Stevie Wonder‘s hit “My Cheri Amour.” Listen. Hear that? That’s “The Bridge” from MC Shan in there. And hear that drop in after that? That’s “Grindin” from The Clipse in there, too. With Steveland’s classic track playing all along. Blend-ing (say it like Pharrell would…no one will blame you)!
“In honor of Stevie Wonder, from the mixtape Bittersweeet.”

R&B/Soul: Chrisette Michele – “Love In The Afternoon” featuring Nello Luchi (Produced By Musiq) [Video]
Two things we know you’ll love about this “Love In The Afternoon” video: Chrisette and more Chrisette. The Konee Rok-directed visuals have her going through some MJ-Black-Or-White type changes, getting more and more sexy and the eyes getting more ‘bedroomy’ as the song progresses. Like she sings, ‘Let her have her way’ with you in the afternoon. You won’t be disappointed. Oh yeah, Musiq is good with the track, and the flows by Nello Luchi…nice. But watch for nothing but hot Chrisette Michele; because that’s what you’ll get. The single is off the “Aubrey Hepburn: An Audiovisual Presentation” mixtape Michele has out for the FREE.99 (linked below).
CyHi The Prynce is really pushing the “My Hystori” mixtape project. G.O.O.D. Music without a doubt, so we are always glad to post another instant classic from the man. The audio and visual delivery of “Is It Me” (featuring Tate DuMonde and Crystal Renee) are hella nice.
Cookin Soul does justice to the music it touches. But the rework of this Nas holy grail…mind-blowing!
In 2014, 20 years after its release, “Illmatic” is still considered as arguably the best hip-hop album of all times. Our intention when creating “Soulmatic” was not to just remix “Illmatic” album as such. Actually “Soulmatic” only contains 4 remixes from the original album… Also we have added a number of musical skits including comments, feelings and experiences from those who created the original album.
The Cookin Soul way to get the listener closer to that particular state of mind that led to the creation of such a classic.

Whose ready for a revist to ‘Loveland’ (hint: you’d better be, because your girl is)? This “King Of Loveland 2″ from Raheem DeVaughn has some newness (and remixes) but the proven formula is still in place. Get this and get your ‘quality together time’ in with somebody.
Heh heh… you know, Loso; we already posted video on the “cuffing season” thing. But this [extended] video right here, ninja… “The Soul Tape 3″ single has a “mini-movie” delivered to visualize Fabulous’ “Cuffin Season.”
Of course, our posting something means we think it is good and/or relevant… It’s an endorsement. And we don’t endorse just anything. But this endorsement of “Days Of Gray” – a mix by Mr. Sonny James – should be taken with a bit more weight because of who else says so. Turns out that Mr. Sonny James (aka DJ Statik) is #6 on DJ Jazzy Jeff’s “Your Favorite DJ’s Favorite Deejays” list! For real. You may start partying, knowing that Jeff (and JayForce.com) approves.
“This rap bread sweeter than a honey bun… f#ck a b!tch, I’d rather see this money come.”
– CyHi The Prince
Producer M16 laying out another track on the “Black Hystori Project” mixtape for CyHi to run over. Done. This “3:16″ is perfection in the form of bars… Ear candy. Visuals don’t really feature eye candy, but dope nonetheless. Check the vid and verses. A wholly unholy spiritual experience.
“Smell The Da.I.S.Y.” (Da Inner Soul of Yancy) by De La Soul is dedicated to late legendary producer James ‘J Dilla’ Yancy’s legacy. The new mixtape consists of classic De La Soul over classic J Dilla production. Eleven tracks (and several bonus ‘gifts’ – like an audio letter, cover art ) all FREE… all for you… here!
This mixtape was released on DJ Premier’s birthday (March 21). Please take a moment to appreciate one of our best! This mix was originally performed live for the Devil’s Pie DJ Premier Tribute party on March 21, 2012. Devil’s Pie is a soul party focused on the curation of timeless music through skillful djing. It occurs every Thursday at the Wolf & Crane Bar in the Little Tokyo neighborhood of Los Angeles.

A nice bunch of covers and conversions of Jill Scott jawns, curated and compiled by the soul selector DJ Rahdu. This “Honey Molasses” is ‘soundtrack of Spring’ indeed!
Jill Scott made a comment during her performance on VH1′s Storytellers about her music selection process that stuck with me – She said that even without her, the music has to have a story of it’s own for her to write to it. Apparently she picks them well; Jill has the uncanny ability to connect to numerous demographics, an uncommon skill in today’s stratified musical climate. “Honey Molasses” is a compilation of the artists that feel that Jill’s songs could somehow help tell their story.
“F#ck it though… better late than never!” – Sean Price
P has Illa Ghee on this track (by The Amazing SB) doing random acts of dopeness. “Dave Winfield” is featured on MM.Rick Presents “Sorry I’m Late” the mixtape (hosted by Redman). Download that and the single here.
