The History Of Sister Nancy’s “Bam Bam” (Video)
Wow! The origin/evolution story of one of the quintessential Hip-Hop melodies told in a dope montage. Respect Sister Nancy!
The music of reggae legend Sister Nancy has played a pivotal role in Hip-Hop for over 30 years, but she’s rarely seen profits from her influence. Recently, Jay-Z sampled Nancy’s “Bam Bam” for his track “Bam,” the same song Kanye West reworked for his ‘The Life of Pablo’ cut “Famous.” Genius decided to trace the song’s evolution from a local hit to a frequently-sampled component of Hip-Hop.

Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley – “Medication” feat. Stephen Marley (Video)
“Medication”… come on, what’d you think it was gonna be about? It’s the Marleys. Let the brothers Jr. Gong and Stephen tell you about their level of elevation!

Konshens – “Gal Dem Sugar” (Video)
You see the title, and I know you thought what I thought… Konshens better not be trying to ‘slick bite’ off Beenie Man and Mya’s “Girl Dem Sugar” or else. But hold up, you get into the music (which is good) and the video (yup, that good-good), and realize that it kinda is. However, I took this as Konshens’ channeling of the essence of that Beenie–Mya. Massive cool dancehall is the result. Nice!
Jamaican reggae and dancehall artiste Konshens presents the official music vide for his 2016 single, “Gal Dem Sugar,” directed by RD Studios and G. Spence. Filmed on location in Jamaica.

DJ Fourd Nkay – “Straight Heat Radio” (September 2016) [Mixtape]
Global grinding! Straight outta Japan, DJ Fourd Nkay uploaded a new “Straight Heat Radio” mix – including brand new Hip-Hop, R&B, Reggae – and hit the hip. Literally! Texted like “Check this out!” Usually has Westside Flip doing the talking, but pulling double duty on this September 2016 edition. Hood hard trapping out the gate, so prepare yourself. Got just past the 11-minute and heard
“You know what… I f#ck with people from ATL, people from NY, people JAPAN at the same damn time!”
Priceless!! Never doubt the WORLDWIDE appeal of Hip-Hop! And DJ Fourd Nkay put it out there: coming back to Atlanta SOON (in town for A3C, first week of October 2016)!
(A listen will get you crunk guaranteed. Interesting to note that around the 29-minute mark comes the declaration that Young M.A is the hottest act coming out of New York. Just posted on her on here. Dope!)

Popcaan – “High All Day” (Video)
High All Day. High All Night. High All Day Long.
What do YOU think Popcaan is chanting about? This “High All Day” single is all about that Merry Jane. Smoke ’em if you got ’em… especially in Colorado. Mile High… Nah, this is a ‘mild high.’
Rihanna – “Work” feat. Drake (Video)
Rihanna is that "Fun Girl" you used to kick it with. You may or may not marry her but she's always fun. That type of vibe
— Jay Force (@Jayforce) February 22, 2016
Some of these new pop songs are really just reggae records without the patois. Rihanna "Work… Justin Bieber – "I'm Sorry", etc etc

Reggae: Popcaan – “Weed Is My Best Friend” (Prod. By Ja Productions)
File this latest Popcaan jawn under ‘self-explanatory’ (hahahaaa)! Cool now… Beg no fren, mon. “Weed Is My Best Friend” – not ours per se. Popcaan’s… Maybe yours, too. No judgements. Burn them greens while you run this stream! FREE download.

Reggae: Popcaan – “Way Up” (Video)
Popcaan going “Waaaaaaay Up” (esp. seeing that ting he rolling in the video, ya know)! Nice visuals for this hot off the Interwebs drop produced by Mildew Riddim.
Reggae: Lady Saw – “Summer Love” (Video)
Lady Saw. The Queen of the Dancehall. Sexy royalty on the beach. She’s saying she wants to fall in love with someone this Summer. Wonder if she is ‘auditioning’ for some “Summer Love” … her or any of those Honeyz can get all kinds of love with those moves. Wooooo! Be sipping on that dutty wine aaaaallll day and night. Just saying (not playing).
Flashback 1984: Jools Holland Covers The Jamaican Music Scene (Video)
Hahaaa! Guess he could not wait to try out his ‘wet suit.’ Back, back in the day, a budding band-member-turned-TV-personality, Jools Holland, did a documentary for Jamaica that aired on UK Channel 4 in 1984. Jam packed this half-hour clip with Jamaican music noteworthies – Dennis Brown, Black Uhuru, Wailing Souls, Yellowman, Mutabaruka, Sly & Robbie… Take a look!
Reggae: Magazeen – “So Low Wine” feat. Wale x Wizkid
I’m feeling the breezy island vibe of this new joint from Jamaican dancehall artist Magazeen. I’ve had the song on repeat about 10 times every since I heard it. Magazeen not a new artist, but he recently signed to Wale’s ‘EveryBlueMoon’ label through MMG a few months back. This new “So Low Wine” track definitely has a worldly influence & features D.C.’s Wale & Nigerian artist Wizkid. The new single will be on Magazeen’s upcoming “IRIE” EP dropping later this Summer. I love songs like this. Makes me want to take a flight to the Caribbean right now. Niiiiiice!
Reggae: Popcaan – “Unruly Prayer” (Prod. By Dinearo) [Video]
Drake, 40 and the OVO Crew show up in the visuals on the cameo love. Nice. And nice song. Meditative feel to it. This is Popcaan’s “Unruly Prayer” (produced By Dinearo).
Classic Clips: Questlove Captures Recording Session With J Dilla, Common, & The Soulquarians (Video)
Check out this classic clip that Questlove of the legendary Roots crew unearthed recently in honor of J Dilla. It’s behind the scenes footage of the recording process for one of Common’s most talked about albums ‘Like Water For Chocolate.’ Crafting the soundscape for the project was J Dilla, James Poyser, & the rest of the Soulquarians who were recording it at the time. Check what Questlove had to say providing some interesting background history on the video, the process, & a few other little known facts…
“The Roots & Common were midway recording followup albums to their breakthrough Things Fall Apart & Like Water For Chocolate projects. two unapologetic “Neo Soul” joints. Having formed an unofficial collation sometime in 96, using the Native Tongue blueprint. The Soulquarians were born.
