Common – “Black America Again” feat. Stevie Wonder (Prod. Karriem Riggins x Robert Glasper) [Video]

Music video for “Black America Again” – the title track of Common’s album. Produced by Karriem Riggins and Robert Glasper. Featuring Stevie Wonder. With Esperanza Spalding on bass. With Scratches by J Rock. With Patrick Warren on strings. With ad libs by Chuck D and MC Lyte.

With the most unpalatable dose of truths delivered in a Hip-Hop suspension. Damn. Just as the start of the video forces us to relive the killing of Alton Sterling and opens the wound, Common drops in a cauterizing truth… that we have to stop killing each other, too. THEN through more lyricism, audio samples from Black noteworthies, and that driving beat, Common continues the uncomfortable conversation and intervention.

Moving. Powerful. Like Hip-Hop is supposed to be. A Golden Era vet utilizing rap as the voice of the culture it was meant to be. Here’s the emotional lineup: You will start with your eyes on the screen, then they will water, you’ll raise a hand to wipe them away, ball it into a fist as the hand lowers, nod in agreement with the music AND message, then RAISE YOUR FIST at the end.

Esperanza Spalding feat. Algebra Blessett – “Black Gold” (Video)

If you need a little uplifting in the mist of your daily trials, this joint “Black Gold” by the beautiful, regal, talented virtuoso jazz bassist/singer Esperanza Spalding featuring the equally beautiful and talented Atlanta native soul singer Algebra Blessett will provide that. The video is awesome in depicting a father taking the time to teach his sons about their proud African heritage then taking them to a local block party to enjoy some good tunes. As corny as it may seem to some, we need more positive songs and images for the youth to see and digest. Esperanza Spalding’s new album Radio Music Society releases March 20th, be sure to cop that when it drops….

Lyric Jones – “Loss On Repeat” feat. Esperanza Spalding

“Starting the new year off with a bang, Lyric Jones wastes no time in dropping the much anticipated third leak, “Loss On Repeat” featuring Grammy Award Winning jazz vocalist and bassist Esperanza Spalding. The song introduces a nice marriage of the two worlds of jazz and hip hop, gelling well to show a versatile style of both artists. Check out how Jones delivers her pensive lyrics, as Spalding sings an amazing hook that ties together their perspectives.

“Loss On Repeat” is produced by emcee, DJ, producer & Berklee College of Music educator Raydar Ellis and also is the final release leading to her debut album Jones St., due out February 7th, 2012.”
