The above video shows behind the scenes footage for the “Spike Lee Was My Hero” video shoot – giving an inside look at the making of the video, as well as details on the song’s creation. Appearances also include Talib Kweli and Spike Lee. Skyzoo’s album – “A Dream Deferred” – is out now. Get that here.
Skyzoo drops this dope video for “Spike Lee Was My Hero” off of one of the best hip hop albums to date “A Dream Deferred”. The director Alex Ghassan did a great job capturing elements of Spike Lee’s unique directorial style for this clip featuring Talib Kweli & Spike Lee who appears later in the clip. Great song & great video from what we decided on our radio show to be one of our top 3 hip hop albums of the year on The Beatz & Lyrics Show. Yes indeed Skyzoo……..Spike Lee was & is still our hero.
Here is the last installment of Sha Stimuli’s Rent Tape series. For thos who don’t know Sha dropped an EP every month is 2012. This project is free and is a gift to all the fans who supported the series all year long. the project features a lot of dope artists like Planet Asia, J-Live, Big Pooh, Boog Brown, Skyzoo, Torae and plenty of others. Skyzoo comes through with the hot video for this banging joint “Give It Up” (featuring DJ Prince). The Skyzoo album with this !llmind-produced track – “A Dream Deferred” – is available now via iTunes. Get the single (FREE) and buy the album at the links we provide here.
Skyzoo’s latest single “Jansport Strings” was a pretty dope tribute to Chi-Ali who was recently released from prison & now back making music. What’s even more interesting is Skyzoo has linked up with Chi-Ali & they’ve recorded the remix at my homie Fokis’s studio in Brooklyn. That’s not only dope, but that’s historic for many reasons. Check out the video above & the final version of the remix below. Skyzoo’s next project “A Dream Deferred” drops tomorrow…
SKYZOO – JANSPORT STRINGS REMIX FEAT. CHI-ALI
Skyzoo is back with a banger, “Give It Up” (featuring DJ Prince), which mashes vintage dirty Hip-Hop drums and 808s with dubstep grime. This combo is a staple of !llmind’s new signature “boom-trap” sound. “Give it Up” will be on Skyzoo’s upcoming album “A Dream Deferred” (due out October 2, 2012). Check it out here.
“The video, directed by Anthony Sylvester, was shot throughout Bed Stuy, Brooklyn NY. The theme was to show the parallels between me as a 9-year old aspiring emcee and me now as an accomplished emcee and artist, and how the things around me that groomed me haven’t changed. The song is a 3-minute auto-bio of me as a kid in Brooklyn. The ending is a clip from Video Music Box, the legendary NYC video show run by DJ Ralph McDaniels. This episode in particular was the debut of Chi-Ali’s classic ‘Age Ain’t Nothin But A Number’. Seeing that video that day on this episode of VMB made me start rhyming. This clip was literally the moment that changed my life. And the Chi-Ali tee shirt is pretty amazing. They’ll be on sale soon. Enjoy…” -Skyzoo
In an rather coincidental sort of timing, Chi-Ali was recently released from prison & Special Ed posted a photo of the two together. So indeed one time for Chi-Ali coming home as well. Check out Special Ed’s quote & the photo after the jump. Skyzoo’s upcoming album ‘A Dream Deferred’ out Oct. 2nd on The Faculty/Duck Down Music Inc.
Respect to Skyzoo for the new video dopeness! “FGR” (First Generation Rich) is off Skyzoo’s forthcoming mixtape, “Theo VS JJ (Dreams vs. Reality).” You can cop your own download of the mixtape (including this “FGR” joint) via iTunes. Nice. So nice! Here’s what Skyzoo had to say about it:
‘The idea for “FGR” came from me watching an Oprah Winfrey special on the Miami Heat’s recent title win; she asked Dwyane Wade about his life now, as opposed to when he was a kid in Chicago. He went on to talk about being the first one in his family to have any type of ‘real money.’ In doing so, he used a slogan: “First Generation Rich.”‘

Skyzoo has released the first single, “Jansport Strings” (produced by 9th Wonder) to appear on his sophomore album, “A Dream Deferred” (out October 2, 2012). Skyzoo mentioned the label deal he inked with Duck Down Music when he last appeared on the Beatz & Lyrics Show with JayForce. Accordingly, the album will be released under the new imprint created from that deal, The Faculty Inc. “A Dream Deferred” will have features from Jill Scott, Talib Kweli, Raheem DeVaughn, Freeway, and more with production from 9th Wonder, and more. Shout to Shamz at OkayPlayer for the scoop on this one. Y’all enjoy this new Skyzoo! Keep reading for special commentary on “Jansport Strings” from Skyzoo himself.
Skyzoo stops by Atlanta’s premier hip hop radio show, Beatz & Lyrics Show with Jayforce, & chops it up about his early career, being influenced by Biggie who lived on his block growing up, the new album “A Dream Deferred” due in September, & not over compromising his style, sound, or image just to further his career. As always the TheNewContent was there to document what went down in the studio…..
Shout out to Skyzoo for stopping by our radio show before hopping back on the road to head down to SXSW in Austin Texas. His “TeamSkyzoo” squad is working overtime with this new video shot down at SXSW for “Rap Like Me” off of his “The Great Debater” mixtape that’s out now. The track was produced by Eric G. while the video was directed by Cam Kirk

Fresh off of his critically acclaimed mixtape “The Great Debater,” Skyzoo celebrates 2/14/2012 with a song strictly for his female audience. After success with numerous “for the ladies” jams such as “Easy To Fly,” “#AllAboutThat”, and “Expensive Habits,” Sky has whipped up “#Anxious” for Valentine’s Day 2012. The track features vocals by Cali’s own Kay Cola (Talib Kweli, Ne-Yo, etc) and produced by Christian Rich (N.E.R.D., Pusha T., GLC, etc). When you download the track for you will receive the “I Heart Skyzoo” tee shirt the model is wearing on the cover. (I’d bet $100 that I know who that model is with those lips & by the way she’s filing out the T-shirt. Hahaa). Quantities are limited (only 100), and once they are gone they are gone for good!
This is easily one of my favorite songs from Skyzoo’s “The Great Debater” project. “Written In The Drums” produced by Swiff D was one of the key tracks that I spun on the radio show regularly when the Great Debater project dropped. This new video directed by @Pacool breathes new life into the project for those that need to still go cop that joint.
This track comes from the NBA2k12 soundtrack. The game dropped Tuesday and is pretty cool even with the lockout issues. Duck Down All-Stars 2 “Shout The Winners Out” by duckdown
