Science: LIGO Can Observe The Gravitational Waves Einstein Predicted Over 100 Years Ago (Video)

So, the genius of Einstein is on display once again. But for this bit of knowledge he posited over a century ago, he thought there could never be any real ‘evidence’ to confirm it. Black holes, the collision of black holes, resulting gravitational waves… all fodder for sci-fi books at best in the time of Einstein. Buuuuut…

When Albert Einstein predicted that two colliding black holes could cause gravitational waves in the fabric of space, he was sure to mention he never thought we’d confirm the elusive waves exist. But he was wrong: we did, in 1974, and now scientists are using a giant laser-based experiment called LIGO to try and observe gravitational waves.

Science: Even Einstein’s Blunders Help Explain The Universe’s Wonders (Video)

Even Einstein’s bad ideas end up being pretty darn good.
Brian Greene

Ha! This kind of reminds me of Dr. McCoy’s line in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, where he told Spock that Captain Kirk trusted his guesses more than most people’s facts. We can’t even count out the theorems that Albert Einstein tosses out; they might be right.

Brian Greene, Columbia University physicist and co-founder of the World Science Festival, explains how today’s physicists and mathematicians use an Einsteinian formula to explain the universe that Einstein himself originally thought was false.

Science: Can Anything Move Faster Than The Speed Of Light? (Video)

Duuuude! Prepare to make the jump to light speed… and beyond! Just the other day, a Star Trek: The Next Generation marathon ep made mention of tachyon particles. Them shiz is REAL??? Well, kinda. The concept of tachyons existing exists… in science. And nerds (like me) see it on Star Trek, and get worked up about. Uh oh…Here we go. I’ve said it to others, and now I will say it again here: If you want a fantasy to become a reality, get the geeks excited about it!

When Albert Einstein said that nothing travels faster than the speed of light, he didn’t talk about objects that could already be traveling faster than light. This is a mind-boggling idea that some physicists have explored over the years, and they call these hypothetical particles tachyons.

We recently spoke with Columbia University theoretical physicist Brian Greene about these faster-than-light particles. Here’s what he had to say on the matter.

One day. Maybe one day, this will be a real conversation. Remember that thing a Yeoman would always bring the Captain on Star Trek to sign-off on? Tell me that wasn’t fictional model for iPad and tablet technology! Only thing is in this case, we won’t be “inventing” tachyons as much as discovering them.

But you gotta know a thing might exist to start looking for it, right? Dope science!

Prodigy x Alchemist – “IMDKV” (Video)

One of the best hip hop albums to drop in 2013 (#6 on our list of Best Hip Hop Albums Of 2013) was the Alchemist-produced ‘Albert Einstein’ project featuring 1/2 of the M.O.B.B., ill emcee, Prodigy. For those who love that gritty hip hop music, the album surely it didn’t disappoint & the video keeps in step with that same hardcore concept.  I’m personally waiting for an ill video to my favorite song ‘Bear Meat’, but for now Prodigy x Alchemist deliver  this new clip for “IMDKV” directed by Tha Profitt & featuring actor Tray Chaney of the HBO series ‘The Wire’.  The video is partially inspired by a scene from the critically acclaimed television series based out of Baltimore.
