Martial Law in Brooklyn, New York. Sure, that’ll go down smoothly. Eff Sparta… This… Is… Bushwick! Ransom? Nah, Son! Kidnappers Try To Run From Halle Berry In “Kidnap” (Trailer)

You took the wrong kid!

YES! This looks like a lot of good buttery popcorn munching. Halle Berry going ‘mad mommy mode’ on some kidnappers that she is about to make PAY for taking her baby! Mad like ‘angry’ AND mad like ‘crazy’ at the same damn time!

Full disclosure: I see that the folks who brought us that screen trash they call “Transformers” are involved. So this could be a bunch of hollering and crashes and boom-boom-pow with no substance or discernable storyline. PLEASE let this be a movie with some heart that drives the drama – more “Armageddon” than “Ah, look at Megan Fox run, bounce and scream soooo sexy.”

(Because, no diss to ‘bouncy sexy women’ depending on that to ‘make’ the movie is turribull… it’s just turribull #BarkleyVoice)

Watching the trailer. Thinking the remakers are on to something. Might have a shot. Not with us though. Never scared! And we always watch horror movie trailers in the middle of the day with all the lights on around here. Doesn’t mean this trailer is scary at all.

Get Out (Trailer)

You see Jordan Peele – formerly of Comedy Central’s Key & Peele – on this and you are waiting to laugh; just holding your breath. You might wanna let that go, and take a few more. This gets real intense real quick. Says this is from Peele’s mind. What part? Wowwwww…

In Universal Pictures’ Get Out, a speculative thriller from Blumhouse (producers of The Visit, Insidious series and The Gift) and the mind of Jordan Peele, when a young African-American man visits his white girlfriend’s family estate, he becomes ensnared in a more sinister real reason for the invitation.

Now that Chris (Daniel Kaluuya, Sicario) and his girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams, Girls), have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy (Catherine Keener, Captain Phillips) and Dean (Bradley Whitford, The Cabin in the Woods).

At first, Chris reads the family’s overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter’s interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could have never imagined.

Equal parts gripping thriller and provocative commentary, Get Out is written and directed by Peele (Key and Peele) and produced by Blumhouse’s Jason Blum, as well as Sean McKittrick (Donnie Darko, The Box), Peele and Edward H. Hamm Jr. (The Box, Bad Words). The film also stars Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men series), Milton “Lil Rel” Howery (The Carmichael Show), Betty Gabriel (The Purge: Election Year), Marcus Henderson (Pete’s Dragon) and Keith Stanfield (Straight Outta Compton).

Truthfully, this could kind of play like a long Key and Peele skit. Like, if they were to come out and talk the audience down and make ’em chuckle at the end. Wouldn’t count on it though.

Snowden (Trailer)

September 16, 2016. Mark your calendars. Oliver is putting his Stones on the table to tell what looks to be the end-all real-life spy drama based on the life and dealings of former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden. Blowing the whistle on what is more than arguably the world’s most secretive organization… strap in!

Academy Award®-winning director Oliver Stone, who brought Platoon, Born on the Fourth of July, Wall Street and JFK to the big screen, tackles the most important and fascinating true story of the 21st century. Snowden, the politically-charged, pulse-pounding thriller starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley, reveals the incredible untold personal story of Edward Snowden, the polarizing figure who exposed shocking illegal surveillance activities by the NSA and became one of the most wanted men in the world. He is considered a hero by some, and a traitor by others. No matter which you believe, the epic story of why he did it, who he left behind, and how he pulled it off makes for one of the most compelling films of the year.
