“Widows” Must Risk A Life Of Crime To Pay A Debt Or Join Their Husbands In Death (Trailer)

This thriller “Widows” looks like it’s gonna go hella hard when it hits screens this November. Fine by us!

From Academy Award®-winning director Steve McQueen (“12 Years a Slave”) and co-writer and bestselling author Gillian Flynn (“Gone Girl”) comes a blistering, modern-day thriller set against the backdrop of crime, passion and corruption. “Widows” is the story of four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands’ criminal activities. Set in contemporary Chicago, amid a time of turmoil, tensions build when Veronica (Oscar® winner Viola Davis), Linda (Michelle Rodriguez), Alice (Elizabeth Debicki) and Belle (Cynthia Erivo) take their fate into their own hands and conspire to forge a future on their own terms. “Widows” also stars Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell, Robert Duvall, Daniel Kaluuya, Lukas Haas and Brian Tyree Henry.
– 20th Century Fox

Looks like it has the cast that can deliver the goods. And score another win for the cast members of “Atlanta” on Fx: Brian Tyree Henry (aka ‘Paper Boi’ on the series) is in this. In theaters November 16, 2018.

Zombies Take This War Movie To A New Level Of Horror In JJ Abrams’ “Overloard”

Where to begin to describe this. Okay, war itself is already gory and scary. But how about that just being the backdrop of a movie? How about making a zombie soldier project gone horribly wrong the main plotline? JJ Abrams went and did it. Not sure if we’re ready for it, but we have until November to get there. Peep the trailer.

After More Than 20 Years, “Tales From The Hood” Gets A Sequel (Trailer)

Wow! Spike Lee and the original creators are back with “Tales From The Hood”… TWO! Remember the first one, with mad creepy Mr. Simms, played by Clarence Williams III? Well, Mr. Simms is back… played by Keith David; who is acting just as creepy, just as mad, and not playing with y’all!

In the wake of the success of Jordan Peele’s “Get Out,” studios have been racing to make their own “socially aware” genre films. While most will miss the point completely, there’s one in the works that’s perfectly primed for a revival. Rusty Cundieff and Darin Scott‘s 1995 “Tales From The Hood” was hugely ahead of its time, putting an urban spin on “Tales From the Crypt” and sharing several stories in what is easily one of the best anthology films ever made. Now, 20 years later, it’s getting a much-needed sequel – on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital and On Demand on October 2, 2018.

“Tales from the Hood 2” introduces the audience to four new dreadful short tales, that follow the original film’s cult classic roots. Sparked with both humor and terror, this brand new movie is said to be filled with even more gritty social commentary and cultural subtext that will provoke and haunt viewers, while putting them on the edge of their seats.

Announcing The Commencement Of ‘The First Purge’ (Trailer)

This prequel is the story of how The Purge got started. Anyone notice drug-dealer-turned-resistance-leader Dmitri is played by Y’Lan Noel (from Issa Rae’s HBO series “Insecure”)? Cool, right?

The First Purge is doing something rare for horror franchises this deep in their run. Instead of playing it safe, it builds on the socio-political commentary from Election Year to drive home the ramifications of a government-sponsored extermination of marginalized peoples by the wealthy elite. And with our current combustible political climate, the franchise will continue to have ample material to evolve and reinvent a dystopian world that far too often hits close to home.
Ismael Abdusalaam, Imprintent.org

Interesting continuation of The Purge series’ violence-with-conscious-points. It’s out now. Go!

Michael Myers Will Hunt & Haunt You In Your Nightmares Because Of This ‘Halloween’ Reboot (Trailer)

Yeah! Several have tried it, but this version looks like it’s winning. Believe in the ‘boogie man’ that is Michael Myers when the 2018 “Halloween” version hits theaters in October! Got comedic actor Danny McBride and the producer of “Get Out” attached… plus the classic film’s OG Jamie Lee Curtis in there.

Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.

Jim Carrey Stars In The Darkest Movie Of His Career To Date (Trailer)

Wow. “Dark Crimes” for real. Heavy on the recognizable faces, but somehow casting does not diminish the story. Jim Carrey is not being uber-silly or uber-philosophical… he threw himself into this role and told this story. At least, that is what I am getting from this stunning trailer.

Meryl Streep & Tom Hanks Expose Government Corruption In “The Post” (Trailer)

In our society, the press is supposed to function as a ‘watchdog on government’… to ‘comfort the afflicted and afflict to comfortable’… a very necessary role. But we have seen, time and again, how that can be a very DANGEROUS role for those in the press; who have dealt with threats on their lives and livelihoods to keep us all up in OUR government’s business (because it is OUR business).

Watergate. Iran Contra. The baseless war in Iraq (to take out weapons of mass destruction that were NOT there)… scandals uncovered by the press. When they do what they are meant to do, reporters serve a critical role in our democracy; holding those in power accountable.

This is an homage to those in the press who did their duty, at great risk, back in the day. “The Post” is looking like another incredible movie that tells a compelling real-life story about what some key figures in the press went through to keep America (and the world) informed about what the government tried to keep covered up.

Steven Spielberg directs Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks in “The Post,” a thrilling drama about the unlikely partnership between The Washington Post’s Katharine Graham (Streep), the first female publisher of a major American newspaper, and editor Ben Bradlee (Hanks), as they race to catch up with The New York Times to expose a massive cover-up of government secrets that spanned three decades and four U.S. Presidents. The two must overcome their differences as they risk their careers – and their very freedom – to help bring long-buried truths to light.

Watch The Final Teaser For “Geostorm” (Trailer)

Sending prayers to Puerto Rico, Florida, Texas, and all in the wake of the hurricanes and tropical storms. Much has happened in the way of natural phenomena attacking humanity where it lives since the first “Geostorm” trailer we posted. Of course, this epic enviro-thriller will take things extremely over the top, but it does kind of trigger feelings regarding our own dealings with nature’s wrath.

Okay, on with the trailer. One last look (trailer) before it hits big silver screens.

Action/Fantasy/Thriller: Natalie Portman Stars In “Annihilation” (Teaser Trailer)

The teaser doesn’t give much away about the story, but it might give you a case of the heebies and the jeebies (that ‘music’ though)! A little digging… so Natalie Portman’s character’s husband got into a spot of trouble in a spot that’s like a dark Narnia meets the Savage Land meets the Bermuda Triangle. Guess the rest of the story will come to us on or before 1st quarter 2018.

Based on Jeff VanderMeer’s best-selling Southern Reach Trilogy, “Annihilation” stars Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Tuva Novotny and Oscar Isaac. It was written and directed by Alex Garland (“Ex Machina,” “28 Days Later”).

Yep, this “Blade Runner” reboot is pushing in all the chips. Star-studded cast, as we saw in the trailer we posted earlier (here). And Dave Bautista is featured prominently in this clip. Truth be told, folks probably barely remember him as a pro ‘rassler. Doing pretty well in action/sci-fi, don’t you think?

Journey into the world 2049 with a replicant on the run. Dave Bautista is Sapper Morton. #BladeRunner2049, in theaters October 6.
