The Latest Offering Of The X-Men Franchise, “Dark Phoenix,” Hits The Big Screen June 7th (Trailer)

Well, well. The old run of the ‘X-Men’ blockbusters starting around the turn of the century put out a take on The Phoenix Saga. But this version though… Maaaaan, LET’S GO!

In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.

Three Generations Of “Shaft” Are About To Hit The Streets? You Damn Right (Trailer)

Oh man hell yeah! This is gonna be dope. Different angle going heavy on the ‘non-cool’ “Shaft” descendant ‘JJ’ (John Shaft, Jr.) in this chapter. Looks like they kept the Black super-cool street justice vibe and amped the comedy. And kept the sexy… Wow! The sistas in this one (Regina Hall, too… nice look, even as a bitter babymama, ha!). Check out the trailer.

JJ, aka John Shaft Jr. (Jessie T. Usher), may be a cybersecurity expert with a degree from MIT, but to uncover the truth behind his best friend’s untimely death, he needs an education only his dad can provide. Absent throughout JJ’s youth, the legendary locked-and-loaded John Shaft (Samuel L. Jackson) agrees to help his progeny navigate Harlem’s heroin-infested underbelly. And while JJ’s own FBI analyst’s badge may clash with his dad’s trademark leather duster, there’s no denying family. Besides, Shaft’s got an agenda of his own, and a score to settle that’s professional and personal.

And you see ‘Double R’ (Richard Roundtree) is still right in there with the sh!ts, too!

“X-Men: Dark Phoenix” Hits Theaters Valentine’s Day 2019 (Trailer)

Surely comic book version purists were miffed at when the X-Men movie franchise messed with several storylines in the first trilogy (esp. in ‘The Last Stand’… Cain Marko aka Juggernaut is NOT a mutant). But this “Dark Phoenix” might, just might, try to steer in the direction of comic canon.

See, in ‘The Last Stand’ Jean Grey did all she could (with Professor X’s …um …help) to control the Dark Phoenix within. But we had no idea where the Phoenix came from. It was like Jean had a super-powered schizophrenic evil alter ego; one that was just there, that Xavier wouldn’t dare let Jean let out. Which likely left longtime ‘X-men’ readers yelling at the screen: HELLO! Phoenix is a COSMIC entity! Where’s the outer space part of the story!???!

Well, fingers crossed, the trailer above could be letting us know that they are going there. FINALLY! Saw a little bit of a space trip in there, but look and see if you see it, too.

(Plus, the teaser text after the jump. Really promising the good goods!)

So far, the ‘prequel’ and ‘alternate’ storyline movies (‘First Class,’ ‘Days Of Future Past,’ and ‘Apocalypse’) of the franchise have scaled up well as far as ‘popcorn effect’ goes… complex story arcs, conflicted characters, BIG explosions and massive destruction scenes from torn down cityscapes to ripped up ocean floors. And a plethora of X-Men are in play (most everyone but Wolverine, unless you count quick cameos). So whatever they choose to do with them and this story we can trust it’ll be epic, well worth the price of admission.

Of course, we will know that for sure by February of next year!
