Nice & Smooth – ‘No Delayin’ (Video)

Nice & Smooth must have read one of my previous blog postings on twitter or something! I mentioned that Nice & Smooth’s ‘No Delayin’ was one of my favorite songs from them that never got the video treatment. Well Well Well….the duo dropped this new video about 20 years late but it came right on time! Even Big Daddy Kane makes a cameo in the video! Awwwwww Yeahhhhh! Dope!

Sha Stimuli – “Wake Up & Go” (Video)

Ladies you don’t need all of that for us here at jayforce.com!

Hometown Hero: The Best Of Big K.R.I.T. Mixtape

The big homie Justin over at Kevinnottingham.com send me this compilation he put together highlighting the best of Mississippi artist & Def Jam signee Big K.R.I.T..  Honestly I’ve never been that familiar with Big K.R.I.T.‘s entire catalog although there have been a few songs here & there that I managed to catch that I thought were cool & some I’ve even played on my radio show like the ‘Hold You Down’ remix he appeared on with Laws & Emilio Rojas. I also dug the ‘Can’t Be All’ joint inspired by Outkast’s earlier sound.  I know Big K.R.I.T. had a lot of buzz prior to signing with Def Jam so this compilation Justin put together should be quite helpful. Admittedly this will help me get up to speed & really dig into what the buzz is really about.  I’ll willingly take a late pass on a good artist then fake the funk on something that was manufactured hype.  The complete tracklisting for the compilation is under the hood. So if your in the same boat as me with trying to catch up then go ahead check it out for yourself & leave your opinions in the comment section…..

Interview:Blu Speaks on New Album

If you been wondering what the hell happened to talented West Coast Emcee Blu or where he’s been, well he’s been laying under the radar, but he’s surfaced with details of a new album dropping this summer, along with more albums in the works for this year. After his critically acclaimed debut “Below the Heavens” with producer Exile in 2007, we haven’t heard much from Blu, other than the “Johnson and Jonson” release with producer mainframe, and the concept mixtape “Herfavcolor”. Blu chops it with HardKnockTV to discuss the details of his new album entitled “No York” along with his follow up album to “Below the Heavens” with producer Exile.Blu revealed that No York, which is presently mixing, will be including contributions from Flying Lotus, Daedalus, Shafiq Husayn (and Sa-Ra Creative Partners), Madlib, Knowledge, Bilal, J*Davey, Edan, and Nola Darling. This should a dope project. Be sure to cop it when the album drops!

New R&B Suite: Marsha Ambrosius, Bobby V, Bilal, Teedra Moses, Tyrese, & More

Usually we don’t have the time to post each & every R&B or Hip Hop record that drops, but occasionally we may do them all in one post.  So from here on out for the R&B joints I’ve decided to name it the R&B Suite on the blog after my R&B mixtape series. I have another R&B mixtape on the way so stay tuned, but for now just enjoy a few these gems that dropped earlier this month. Just click on the images or the links to either listen or download under the hood……

The BLITZ – 2/28/11: The Academy Awards Edition

And the award for the best news segment for a Men’s based hip hop & music blog goes to…… The BLITZ! ****Applause*** .  Well we can’t exactly lie & say we watched the Academy Awards.  Unlike Sidney Poitier’s historic win back in 1964, there weren’t any significant African American performers nominated for anything so our focus was on the NY Knicks & Miami Heat battling it out down in sun soaked Miami.  I agree with Idris Elba that the Oscars aren’t designed for African Americans. Just focus on making good films. Yes more info on all of that under the hood.  It’s the BLITZ! Chock full of News & Information from around globe in a quick reference guide to start your Monday. Actual Proof – ‘X-Factor’ (prod by Khrysis) (Video)

The North Carolina duo releases the latest video ‘X-Factor’ which is the last track from their ‘Talented Tenth’ mixtape that dropped last month. I think they should shoot a video for ‘Peace Zulu’ as that’s been one of my favorite songs from the project. Maybe they’ll do so eventually……

School Of Sharks (Hpone, LexBoogie, Marq Spekt) – ‘Sun Sun’

The School Of Sharks are back at it again….Circling that weak hip hop that the majority of the mainstream people are used to! It looks like several talented emcees & producers helped make this song a reality with illastrate & Lex Boogie on production & Amdex on the scratching duties. Hpone is handling all of the emceeing for this particular track.  So sit down & listen to this & let me show you ‘Sun Sun’…..

SCHOOL OF SHARKS (MARQ SPEKT, LEX BOOGIE, HPONE) – ‘SUN SUN’

Hip Hop Classic: M.O.P. – ‘Ante Up’ (Video)

J. Cole – ‘Nothing Like It’

J. Cole did this thing with this freestyle joint right here.  Maybe I’m getting old or something, but I still believe for the type of artist J. Cole is he curses way more than is necessary in his music.  He’s not M.O.P., but his body count with the cursing is pretty high. I think he needs to stay passionate with his verses but I can tell he throws in the curses in an overt attempt to delivering an memorable line or two.  Rakim didn’t curse alot but you still felt his verses & he was still gangsta nonetheless.  If Ra cursed too often we may not have considered him one of the greatest ever because the message would have gotten lost in the profanity.  Be passionate but don’t underdo it.  Settle in but don’t force it.  Maybe I’m wrong, but if I am please excuse my old man rant.  In any case J. Cole did his thing with this joint right here though.

Interview: DJ Pocket Chops It Up With Moonsatellite Of Culture King (Video)

DJ Pocket is one of the best kept secrets in Atlanta & also a good friend. The Baltimore raised & Atlanta based resident has been doing his thing working with MF Doom & most recently Count Bass D on a myriad of projects as of late but he’s been producing & opening up his studio for many artists in the hip hop scene for years. I’ve even recorded a few of my earlier mixtapes at his studio here in Atlanta. Sometimes I’d roll over to the studio just to hang out & talk sh*t. Showing that there’s always six degrees of separation in anything, my homie Moonsatellite who represents Culture King, had been a fixture Atlanta’s hip hop scene before moving to Los Angeles.  Moonsatellite recently linked up with DJ Pocket for a great interview for you all go to get to know more about the man. Check it out!

Clyde Carson – ‘Somethin To Speak About’ feat. Game (prod by Scoop DeVille)

Clyde Carson has been missing in action for quite a while.  He had some really good songs that dropped a few years ago I believe around 2007, but just like that it seemed like he disappeared for a while.  I believe Clyde Carson is now signed to Game’s label & it’s possible that he may have been just waiting in the wings somewhat.  I’m not mad at his return with this new joint right here produced by Scoop Deville…….it’s definitely ‘something to speak about’….

New Music: J Rawls – ‘Ohio Anthem’

It’s really good to see different regions & parts of the world starting to get some shine in the hip hop game. I like the fact that not one region or city has a hold on hip hop thus offering a variety of perspectives. Veteran hip hop artist J Rawls can be considered a pioneer for Ohio because he began putting out music at a time when Ohio didn’t have many hip hop artists getting national or even regional attention. Here’s what he had to say about the new single he dropped gathering notable emcees to rep for their state….

“I am sure many of you have heard about what we have going on here in Ohio! We have a lot of new groups bubbling as well as some veterans. In the history of OHIO we have never had ONE SONG to unify our state for one purpose of being heard around the world. Many of you are my personal friends that I have djed with in some of the greatest cities in the world! Some of you I have only met once. Regardless, I am excited to present with you the first opportunity to have this exclusive new J RAWLS joint from my new album “The Hip-Hop Affect” ……The album will be dropping in May. This is it yall! I think this album may be my best work yet!” – J Rawls

De La Soul To Release The ‘Artificial Intelligence III’ Album This Year (Video)

Maseo of De La Soul recently chopped it up in an interview about their new album Artificial Intelligence III in which the trio plans to drop this year. In this interview Maseo reminds us all why we love De La Soul so much & why they are such an iconic group in music period. They are artists & musicians who do what they feel first & foremost. Maseo makes some very valid points about New York hip hop too in which I wholeheartedly agree. On a side note…. Maseo’s laugh is wickedly scary. Reminds me of a scene from a classic horror flick.
