The 1978ers (yU x Slimkat) – “Far” (Video)

The 1978ers, made up of  yU the emcee & Slimkat the producer, bring you the latest visuals for their track “Far” off of their People of Today album. The humble King yU spits lyrics that promote spreading love, embracing our unique creativity, and the idea of universal understanding through the metaphor of space and it’s vast beautiful wonder.  Slimkat orchestrates the beat and director Jay Brown brings this all to life.  Guest vocals by B. jamelle and you have a quality piece of production.  If you like what you see and hear make sure you pick up the full length project from the link below.

yU – “Homicide” (Prod. By Nottz)

DSCF3043This joint is a straight up banger! Been playing it on my radio show ever since it dropped. He’s 1/2 of the 1978ers, 1/3 of the critically acclaimed group Diamond District, D.C. lyricist “yU” links up with arguably one of Virginia’s illest producer Nottz! Whenever I see Nottz’ name on something I know he’s going to be killin’ it with the boom-blappers! yU does the damn thing with the appropriate subject matter & A+ lyricism to match the track as well. This joint is straight MURDA! But in a good way. Be on the lookout for Mellow Music Group’s upcoming compilation that this song appears on called “Persona” due March 10th. If you missed the Oddisee & Phonte collaboration called ‘Requiem’ we posted a few days ago, it will be on that same MMG compilation due March 10th as well.

The Other Guys – “Memories Fade” feat. yU x Substantial

Score another scoop for Bad Magics. This particular single “Memories Fade” is a favorite of mine off The Other Guys’ EP entitled “The Opposite of Sex.”

“Sex is the mere reason for man’s existence today, naturally throughout life and its pleasures its opposite pain rears its ugly head. One can’t fully appreciate the pleasures of life with out feeling some pain in between.”

R&B/Soul: yU – “Dreams” feat. Danedra Rowell

In a departure from the boom bap we’ve come to expect, yU sets Danedra Rowell on lead vocals for “Dreams” – a rap-free melancholy melody on how we had bigger dreams when were younger… too young to fully understand them. Shout to Kevin Nottingham for the scoop on this gem.

yU – “I Believe” (Oddisee Remix)

“I Believe” was originally released as part of “The EARN,” a mixtape from DC emcee yU the 78er. Well, Oddisee got hold of it and worked some magic; creating a classic track that is heavier on the boom bap. “Either believe, or be left,” yU said it best on this cut. Don’t get left! Listen to this banger for yourself. It will make a believer of you!

yU – “I Believe” feat. Duff

One of D.C.’s skilled emcees, yU, decided to release this joint from his album “The Earn” in honor of the Martin Luther King, Jr this morning. Let’s all sit back, read the lyrics to the song, & reflect for a while…..

yU – Talks About His Album “The EARN” (Video)

Diamond District’s yU is back with his new project The Earn and it builds off the dopeness he dropped on his first project Before Taxes.

yU – “If U Down”

Damn it was less than a week ago when D.C. producer & emcee yU dropped “A Garbage Beattape” of instrumentals that was far from basura, but the brother just blessed the real heads with the first single to his upcoming album “The Earn” which is due to drop on Mellow Music Group on December 13th.  This is the second solo album from the D.C. native following his debut album “Before Taxes”. Like we said before in a previous post, yU is an ill emcee & underrated producer as a soloist outside of his group Diamond District, but this time he enlists his homie SlimKat78 on the production duties.  Peep out the banger below…
