Nice! Can’t tell us that you don’t pick up things from folks you are around. Traveling the globe for years with a Philly mixmaster like DJ Jazzy Jeff (check out all their Vinyl Destination stops posted on here) will let you pick up some stuff from pure osmosis. But this here, this is some training! Nice work from Skillz on this tribute mix to Philly he’s dubbed “Cheesesteaks & Tastykakes.” Dope!!
Did a live broadcast yesterday playing some of my favorite music from one of my favorite cities, Philly!! I have a special place in my heart for Philly, its like a 2nd home to me! Man, this latest Dayne Jordan jawn reached so deep the first time I watched (my count is six times as of this post). “Family Man” was produced by the incomparable DJ Jazzy Jeff, making the song a Philly brothers connection. Wanna make this sub a real Philly… put in The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air clip of Will Smith in PAIN when his dad dipped on him AGAIN! Yep, right at the heart of the video, so it cuts deep (shout to director Cristopher Schafer, the same genius that brings us ‘Vinyl Destination’)!
And comedian Top Rope Zeus took his role as a dad on the ropes in the fight we call real life. Too real. I’ve gotten that ‘this is your last day letter and handshake’… twice!
Get to watching; again and again. Jordan! And it counts!

Can’t noooobody say Dayne don’t keep it Philly! He lassoed the fellow Philadelphans DJ Jazzy Jeff and James Poyser (of The Roots) for the production AND R&B singer Ebony Joi to do the honors on this beautiful track. I got wind of this from Dayne Jordan himself. He let me know he released a new song…“LOST.” I checked for it on his site. Boom. Doooope!
Shot the video (above) in Azerbaijan? Yeah, Dayne does world travel. Keeping it Philly doesn’t mean not getting your passport stamped.

Super dopeness from Dayne Jordan (the artist formerly known as Dosage, now rapping under his government name) – a Philly born emcee whose steady grind and polish befits that of a rising star. Dig the GoPro cam shots (giving a first person view to the dawn of his day).
Relatively little is known about the up-and-coming artist thus far; but we do know he’s still rocking @THEREALDOSAGE on Twitter. He also makes no secret that super-producer and fellow Philadelphian DJ Jazzy Jeff is squarely in his corner as music-maker and mentor. Dayne doesn’t appear to be leaning on Jeff for career advancement though. The music videos, as is the case above, don’t feature Jeff (or anyone really; basically him going in). However, the latest Vinyl Destination videos (chronicling Jazzy Jeff’s travels, gigs and hijinks) do sport cameos of the rapper; as well as some of his music.

Skillz – I’m Outchea (Video)

Although Skillz has been touring the world as DJ Jazzy Jeff’s hypeman as documented in their Vinyl Destination web series, the Virgina emcee has been spending plenty of time in Atlanta if you’ve noticed occasionally from his twitter page. Just like the sound of Skillz’s “2012 Rap Up” his new video & single “I’m Outchea” off of his latest album “Thoughts Become Things” is a musical indication of this ATL/southern based influence from a production standpoint if you were to ask me.
