GoPro Karma: Beach Day With The Walsh Family (Video)

Professional surfer Anthony Walsh takes his wife (Crystal) and their son (Damien) on a daycation; exploring their native Hawaii by air, by land and by water. And the GoPro HERO5® camera with the Karma stabilization system is there to “see” it all, so the Walsh family could view it later.

Oh… and so we can view it now!

New GoPro Throwable Camera Lets You Capture High-Quality Aerial Footage (Video)

Wow. When the director calls out “throw” to camera 3… well, now the cameraperson will need some further clarification… Because GoPro, that’s why! Watch the clip above: You can aim, throw and shoot this GoPro (as many times as needed) to get the perfect aerial shot. Whyyyyy are we not filming touchdown receptions with a ‘football cam’ yet? Get on that GoPro. ASAP. And get Cam Newton to speak on it (Cam’s Aerial Cam, Air Cam Cam, ThrowPro…something more catchy).

Hey! What about a dodgeball cam?? Imagine commentating someone getting BLASTED in the face, huevos, guts, glutes or somewhere sensitive (yet hilarious) from the ‘incoming!’ point of view. Could be some fun tech! And you can invest in it via the link below.

KICKSTARTER: WITH AER, YOU CAN THROW YOUR GOPRO!

Technology: Everyone Is A Sports Cameraman with GoPro Mini-Cams (Video)

GoPro is truly made the little camera that could… record everything from baby’s first step to Felix Baumgartner’s first step on his 24-mile dive from space! Initially developed and marketed as the go-to camcorder for surfers, bikers, skiers, and other action enthusiasts, GoPro cams are also being used by newlyweds (at the ceremony maaannn…get your mind out that gutter), teachers, researchers, and other non-thrill-seekers; you know…regular folks. GoPro cams can still shoot intense action even in regular folk circles though. On the job, firefighters use them for training, marine biologists use them for undersea research, and the Army uses them in assessing damage from roadside bombs.

GoPro cams are still pretty pricey ($400 each) for personal cameras; but maybe the price will come down as the company continues to target mainstream market segments. GoPro maker Woodman Labs’ founder Nicholas Woodman is definitely on a big push to make it so his pro-grade mini-cams”document more and more of our lives.”

“If this is a niche, it’s a very big one,” Woodman declares.

Dame Dash Gets To ‘B-Real’ In The ‘Smokebox’ (Video)

It’s not hard. Setup the GoPro cam, get in the car, and fire up some bionic bubonic chronic. Then launch the conversation. Of course, the convo will go better if you have someone with something to say.

Enter Dame Dash.

How is dude making sense in the midst of all that haze?? Watch Dame speak with appreciation for the accolades B-Real showered him with, then speak on plans to move into making direct-to-consumer movies and out of the music business. Also, servicing the weed smoker culture; buying “bricks”… in the sense of ultimately investing in building venues and spaces in which stoners can smoke good and live the high life while getting high!

Way more covered in this ep. Watch.

(Got him at the end though. Crack a window or something. Hahahaaaaaa!)

The Streets of Japan in 4K (Video)

So… to get dope video like this… all one would need to do is get hold of a GoPro HERO4 cam and get to shooting? Nice! Oh… looks like a trip to film Tokyo’s exotic vehicle scene would be in order, too.

As the sun goes down, Tokyo transforms to a wild and exotic playground for those who like to pour on the speed. As a method of expression, the custom vehicle scene thrives in Japan. You’ll meet some truly unique characters and get to ride along in some of the most exotic vehicles you’ve ever seen. Lamborghinis, Hayabusas, RWB Porsches, and some Kaido Racers make up a feast for the eyes on the streets of Tokyo at night.

Shot 100% on the HERO4® camera from http://GoPro.com.

Dayne Jordan – “I Want It All” (Prod. By DJ Jazzy Jeff) [Video]

Put your best foot forward, and put your next foot forward. If you take steps toward it, when ain’t no steps to warm up, that’s how you get toward it. Go for the goal, and you get rewarded.
Dayne Jordan

Super dopeness from Dayne Jordan (the artist formerly known as Dosage, now rapping under his government name) – a Philly born emcee whose steady grind and polish befits that of a rising star. Dig the GoPro cam shots (giving a first person view to the dawn of his day).

Relatively little is known about the up-and-coming artist thus far; but we do know he’s still rocking @THEREALDOSAGE on Twitter. He also makes no secret that super-producer and fellow Philadelphian DJ Jazzy Jeff is squarely in his corner as music-maker and mentor. Dayne doesn’t appear to be leaning on Jeff for career advancement though. The music videos, as is the case above, don’t feature Jeff (or anyone really; basically him going in). However, the latest Vinyl Destination videos (chronicling Jazzy Jeff’s travels, gigs and hijinks) do sport cameos of the rapper; as well as some of his music.

Technology: AirDog, A Personal Quadcopter Camcorder System (Video)

95% funded on Kickstarter. This is happening!

AirDog is a personal quadcopter camcorder system designed to automatically follow and film users with a GoPro camera. The AirDog system includes the quadcopter, an AirLeash wireless device used by the quadcopter to track users, a device used to stabilize any attached GoPro camera, software and other enabling technologies (including an optional smartphone app to manually control the quadcopter). The designers’ vision is that the AirDog be used to better record extreme sports.

Why confine yourself to stationary videos, or ground-level perspective? The AirDog takes things to a whole new level!

Check out the video. Exciting visuals, with angles akin to what you would get on television broadcasts.

Animal Activist Kevin Richardson Gets Up Close & Personal With Several Wild Lions in South Africa (Video)

GoPro is some great tech that has captured some incredible feats. And we have put a few GoPro posts on here. But this. UNBELIEVABLE! Not even sure we should post this.

“They’re just so beautiful.”
Kevin Richardson

Of course, the GoPro Productions team stayed in the vehicle. But Kevin (aka ‘The Lion Whisperer’) just had to go out and meet his friends. If you happen to live near the South African (or any) savannah… DO NOT TRY THIS!!

(But if you haven’t already…play this!)

Technology: DJI Innovations’ Phantom 2 Vision Quadcopter (Video)

‘What makes our Phantom 2 Vision unique is its ability to stream live video down to your smartphone.’

Paul Pan, DJI Representative

And we could stop right there! Some of the coolest tech coming out. DJI Innovations put out a GPS-enabled Phantom quadcopter – the go-to aerial platform for the GoPro HERO actioncam – last year. Now, they got that Phantom 2 Vision coming… with improved battery life, a video-stabilizing platform and an included HD video camera that allows for first-person-view via a mobile device.

Eye-in-the-sky fun for anyone who gets one. Backyard sunbathers beware… hahaaa.

Take a Tip From a Billionaire: Read the Book ‘Patent It Yourself’

etc_billionaire22__01__630x420

We’ve posted on GoPro before. Maybe we can take a reading recommendation from the mini-cam company’s billionaire CEO Nick Woodman. A tweet asked: ‘What’s the one book a BIT (Billionaire-In-Training) should read?’ Here is Woodman’s answer.

‘Patenting an idea can be really expensive and intimidating. When I was starting out, I read this terrific book called Patent It Yourself, by a lawyer named David Pressman. It was really straightforward. Using that book, I wrote GoPro’s first patent myself. It was this 60-page tome that I went maniacal on. When I took it to the attorneys to get their opinion and to see how much it would cost for them to finalize it, they told me I’d just saved myself a lot of money—I’d basically done the whole thing myself. More important, the book gave me a good understanding of what’s patentable and what’s not. For any entrepreneur who’s inventing something, it’s the one book you should read.’

YOUR TURN: Tweet your question to Businessweek with the hashtag #AskABillionaire.
