Sebastian So Soul – “The Black Tape” (Mixtape)

Sebastian So Soul

Brooklyn (New York, United States) is home to Sebastian So Soul (born Jonathan Francis). With a style inspired by Quincy Jones, Kanye West, and J Dilla, Sebastian So Soul has a stated life-changing musical mission: to  “create opportunities for those who want to create opportunities for others.” Check out the “The Black Tape” he dropped for February; and keep checking for this musician on a mission:

“The Black Tape” is my debut project that is themed around Black History Month. The purpose of this project was to showcase my ability as a producer as well as provide listeners with music containing substance that seems to be lacking in our current industry. The speeches featured on this tape touch on an array of topics from, spirituality to politics, to self-sufficiency and empowering our communities by taking education, and business into our own hands. Within these changing times, the focal point of progression is not geared towards racial equality, as much as it once was, but rather knowing how our decisions as individuals effect humanity as a whole.

Dead Prez – “No Way As The Way” (Video)

Official music video for “No Way As The Way” from the Dead Prez (M1 and Stic.Man) release “Information Age Deluxe.” Beautiful sentiments on life and spirituality expressed in the song (brought to life in the video). Check out what Stic.Man had to say about its conceptualization:

‘The song “No Way As The Way,” that title comes from my martial arts practices. Jeet Kune Do is one of the arts that I’ve had the chance to practice. Jeet Kune Do was created by Bruce Lee. It’s an approach to martial arts that says that having no way as the way, is the way. To make it simple: not being locked into any particular way as the only way to get something done, in terms of your fighting.

That spills over into the philosophy of life in terms of having no set way, no rigid position that you’re trying to hold, but being adaptable and fluid and flowing. Long story short, that martial arts practice has inspired my thinking a lot. When we decided to write a song on “Information Age” about spirituality and religion, it was so fitting.’

Demigodz – “Dead In The Middle” (Video)

This video for the single “Dead In The Middle” by Demigodz (Ryu, Celph Titled, Apathy) is a straight up banger!  Good choice in sampling Big Pun’s classic “Dead In The Middle Of Little Italy” lines in the hook paired with the scary Scooby Doo ambience.  Overall these cats are winning with this combination of ill lyricism & delivery, a banging track, & a dope ass looking video. I’m still trippin’ off that “Sack-Religious” line. The group’s album – “Killmatic” – is available for pre-order now at www.demigodzstore.com

The Black Opera – Fxckin Problem (Video)

The Black Opera hit us off with something new. Been checking for them for a while now; with good reason. Work like this keeps us on edge, conscious, affected. It’s what art is supposed to do. Hip-Hop… art. Respect to The Black Opera for this latest piece of art – and visual dramatization – a “Fxckin Problem” (and it is…just watch).

‘In times like these, Dark Comedy is no laughing matter. So with all jokes aside, we wanted to put a satirical spin on A$AP Rocky’s “Fuckin’ Problem” in order to address current events and issues. Events and issues that include the school shooting in Connecticut, gun control, mental health, and America’s prescription drug addition amongst others. RIP to everyone that lost their lives in the Newtown, CT school shooting and the innocent lives lost everyday in these streets and around the world.’
