Aretha Franklin’s Unreleased Documentary ‘Amazing Grace’ (Trailer)

One of the most interesting things to come of the theatrical and commercial success of “Straight Outta Compton” is the explosion of discussions about the ‘next’ biopic. Some word has been floating about regarding a sequel to the N.W.A. biopic that focuses on Snoop and Tupac. Before that, there was substantial rumor mill grist generated by talk on a possible Public Enemy movie. Well… how about telling a story outside the rap genre? That TLC movie raised quite a ruckus, and that was a straight-to-cable work.

What say we consider a movie, more documentary-like, that was shot in 1972… edited and likely re-edited over the decades since… and set to surface at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival (running September 10th to 20th)? It was billed as a ‘gospel concert’ movie for Aretha Franklin – constructed with extensive footage captured while Re-Re recorded her “Amazing Grace” album. We will all just have to wait on the new new version. The world will get it when Toronto does.

The man also known as Lex Diamonds paints multiple fly pictures on this song all the while performing verbal gymnastics with the track changes.  It’s clear that Rae is still up on his “F.I.L.A.” ish…

Mos Def Yasiin Bey & Talib Kweli hit us with a double dose of “Black Star Power” on this Black Friday. This joint right here produced by Madlib’s little brother OhNo is not going to be on their next album, but will be on a tribute mixtape to Aretha Franklin. Of course we can assume the project will contain a gang of Detroit City Diva’s music that’s been sampled. If this is jawn right here is of any indication then we already know the complete tribute mixtape is gonna be fiyah! But ‘You Already Knew’…..
