Kendrick Lamar Lists His All Time Top Five (Video)

Jay Z, Eminem, 2Pac, Biggie, and Snoop Dogg. Mighty powerful list for a guy that is NOT big on such lists. And yes, he was aware that Nas was not on his list… just missed the cut.

Kendrick Lamar runs down his list of his top 5 all time favorite rappers, living or dead.
– Power 106 Los Angeles

Great clip! See a much longer interview after the jump where K. Dot talks about his latest album (“DAMN.”), his insatiable hunger for Hip-Hop, the passing of Prodigy (of Mobb Deep) and more.

SZA – “CTRL” (Album Stream)

You peeped that “Drew Barrymore” video we posted on here the other day, right? That single was off the “CTRL” album from SZA. If we had the whole album to share, we would. Sooooo… look out belooow!

Terrace Martin Presents The Pollyseeds – “Up & Away”

Another one from The Pollyseeds? Yes indeed. This is some good riding music; actually expected to hear an emcee start riding this track out of nowhere. Just has a smooth emcee’s feel. Maybe somebody will rap over a ‘remix’ or something. Still dope if they do or don’t. Check it out! You can pre-order “Sounds Of Crenshaw, Vol. 1” today.

Kendrick Lamar – “ELEMENT.” (Prod. By Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith x Dave Free x Jannis Birsner) [Video]

It’s a difference between Black artists and wack artists.

Daaamn! K. Dot is hot about something or other in this vid. Guess he’s tired of telling mutha-shut-yo-moufs to be “Humble” and just got to slapping blood out dudes’ mouths. Very visceral visuals as a vehicle to present some more definitely dope music from Kendrick Lamar. Music produced by Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, Dave Free, and Jannis Birsner. Fresh off Kendrick’s “DAMN.”

(That part where they dropped the beat and Kendrick flowed like Juvenile in “Ha” was particularly dope!)

Snoop Dogg – “Moment I Feared” feat. Rick Rock (Video)

So… a couple of things off top… This is a music video for The DoggFather’s “Moment I Feared” off that “Neva Left” album (that’s one). And yes, that is Rick Rock (The Hyphy-Father) in it smoking a forest and actin’ a damned fool in the ‘Beast Raider’ jersey, homie (for two).

Trust. It starts like a GGN ‘sode… but it goes music video mode before you know. All that, plus a hella sexy Stormy Fronts model doubling up in this as a video vixen.

Big Boi – “Boomiverse” (Album)

“Boomiverse” is an entire plate of Big Boi going solo; and by that we mean apart from his Outkast homie Andre 3K. Important to make that distinction, because Big Boi has a gang of collaborators on this album: Pimp C, Jeezy, Gucci Mane, Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Adam Levine (from Maroon 5), Killer Mike, Curren$y, Janelle Monáe… Yeah, it’s LOADED!

Let the YouTube playlist run by clicking play above. You can cop if you like via the iTunes link below whenever you are ready.

MC Eiht – “Got That” feat. DJ Premier (Prod. By Brenk Sinatra)

The push for that forthcoming “Which Way Iz West” is on. MC Eiht is out with another one. And he has the homie DJ Preemo with him doing the most on the Brenk Sinatra-produced track “Got That”… but not how you think. And WHY isn’t Premier scratching on this??? Well…

I’ve loved this track ever since the rough draft. When I was mixing the song down, Eiht kept saying “Got That” after the verses and I was going to put some scratches on it. I’m sitting at the board, saying the three lines to myself because I felt like it would fit in the blanks. I decided to go in the booth to record it and see if it would blend with the song. I’m not a fan of my own voice so I sent it back to Eiht for approval and his replay was literally GEAH.

Illa J – “Maureen” (Prod. By Calvin Valentine)

Another strong song from Illa J. Back to the rap after the departure of our last post for his upcoming album’s title track “Home.” Smooth. And you will feel this. Come on: It’s for his moms… pretty much for Hip-Hop’s moms aka Ma Dukes. Here’s what Illa j had to say:

This song is special because I feel blessed to have the parents that I had and their support for me my entire life for anything I wanted to achieve. My mom always has and still encourages me and supports me towards fulfilling my dreams whatever dreams those might be. I knit’s been really hard on her, especially after losing James and then my dad. And through all that, she still had the strength to keep moving forward strong. And I just really wanted my mom to know how much I appreciated her support, and how much I admire her strength and courage.

As we grow older, we don’t always go in line with what our parents would want us to do. Especially coming from a family where your entire family is in the public eye and involved in the industry. Whatever happens, if we don’t agree on same things when it comes to music and vision, at the end of the day she is my mom and always will be. So when Calvin played me the beat, all that came out and it connected with something deep within me, that I never got the chance to express. I love you, mom!

Wow. Bar-hopping over the beats with these barz! Rhyme party animals on this “Yawl Can’t Drink With Us” track off the Sadat LP “The Sum Of A Man” (out now).

Ice Cube – “Good Cop Bad Cop” (Prod. By T-Mix) [Video]

Been 25 years since Ice Cube dropped “Death Certificate.” Hardcore Golden Era head-nodding raw lyricism over the best beats! And 25 years later… ain’t a damn thang changed! Well, maybe some – like Cube re-releasing the classic project AND juicing it up with with new songs; all dope! Like this “Good Cop Bad Cop” (produced by T-Mix).

Dynasty – “Greatness” feat. C-Rena (Prod. By Peabody) [Video]

We have followed, with much eagerness, the career of Dynasty aka Ya Girl Dy like it was ‘our girl Dy‘ for quite some time. She’s so obviously talented we could stay on topic with the Hip-Hop talk; but come on… you DO see how GORGEOUS she is, right? Okay then. We gotta mention that, too.

My fav joint from her is still “If You…” (she knows, because I tell her on Facebook, like, often). And then there is that black leggy outfit from “After Laughter” though (Wu Wear, woooooo weeeeee, Maaaami)!

Plus, it’s not just us rocking with Dynasty. Look at her cohorts that cosign with the tracks and rhymes – DJ Premier, Skyzoo, Talib Kweli… yuuup. She’s something like a big deal. But still down to earth. Check out the “Greatness” – the latest from ya NY-turned-FL girl Dy. Featuring C-Rena and produced by Peabody. Pick up this song on her “Forever, Dy” project at her site’s online store or wherever dope music is sold.

Snoop Dogg – “Revolution” feat. October London (Prod. By Just Blaze)

Dope beat for this produced by Just Blizzle (like Snoop might’ve said? Maybe? Yes? No?)! This is the visual for The DoggFather’s “Revolution” (featuring October London).

True revolution can only come from the youth. As every new generation grows up, they have a chance to start from scratch and see the world differently. But only by stepping outside of yourself can you truly understand your place in the world…
– WestFestTV

Banger! Uncle Snoop snapped hard on this orchestral heavy-on-the-bap track! A release from the “COOLAID” LP coming July 1st (pre-order available via iTunes link below).

Rick Ross – “Idols Become Rivals” (Prod. By Black Metaphor) [Video]

Rick Ross’ joint “Idols Become Rivals” had the streets buzzing; with the Bawse letting off shots at Birdman. Might have died down a bit, but Rozay cannot let that happen. So here we go with visuals for the Black Metaphor-produced jawn. New life, new heat off the “Rather You Than Me” LP!

Illa J – “Home” (Prod. By Calvin Valentine) [Video]

You are supposed to FEEL good music. That’s what this is. “Home” is a feeling. A wonderful Motown Bluesy feel set to music (produced by Calvin Valentine)… and video. Illa J got this one right. Enjoy this visual for Illa J’s album’s title track. Album due out June 30th but you can pre-order now.

Bugged out that this is my first ever single being released without any rapping in the entire song..Been wanting to do this for so long. As always, Calvin kills it on the production. And to put the icing on the cake, the house I’m sitting in front of on the video is actually the house my parents brought me home to as a baby. It’s home in the most literal sense as I’m surrounded by family, my nieces and cousins. Also in a way showing how I’m the man of my family now since my dad and my brother are gone physically, I represent them both.
