Cloudy Uchiha – “Shot Caller” feat. 1iSinny (Prod. By DJ Creecha)

Brassy horns envelop your ears at the opening of this braggadocious, and confident track from Detroit emcee Cloudy Uchiha. A sharp lyrical display with intricate rhymes is layered over kicks and snares masterfully constructed by DJ Creecha. 1iSinny joins Cloudy in a tit-for-tat of Hip-Hop back-and-forth sparring. “Shot Caller” is that banger that will make you feel like you banged your head by the time it’s over.

Rapper Big Pooh – “The Recipe – Intro” (Prod. By Khrysis x Young RJ)

Suffice it to say, most music-making (esp. rap music) has a story behind it. But maaaan, this story takes a deep breath before & after to tell.

Back in 2008-2009 after the idea and talks of a Slum Village/Little Brother album faded amongst us…Young RJ and I started working on a project called The Recipe. While working on the project I became obsessed with finding the right joint to start the album off. Khrysis (he was engineering the recording for me in NC) plays this beat that I deemed, “the one.” Even though it wasn’t his production, I convinced Young RJ that this was what we needed to start our album off. He stripped the original version down and built it back up around the sample Khrysis used. I hit DJ Babu for the cuts and we were ready to rock. After The Recipe stalled while we were trying to get the business side straight, Slum Village started working on Villa Manifesto. I was asked about giving this track to Slum for their album but I refused, still planning on finishing and using it for The Recipe. Scrap Dirty made the OG call and gave it to Slum and it became Bare Witness, their intro track for Villa Manifesto. Here is my unmixed, unmastered, and unreleased version of The Recipe – Intro.
Rapper Big Pooh

This is pretty much as ‘raw uncut’ as raw uncut Hip-Hop can get. Enjoy and appreciate this finally-released gold nugget! Also, just think for a minute about the Slum Village/Little Brother album that might’ve been. WHEW!

Illa J Speaks On His Upcoming Self-Titled LP, The Downside To Being J Dilla’s Brother And More (Video)

Allow Detroit’s Illa J to reintroduce himself (in the radio interview above, and with his album linked below). He is very much and very proud to be the brother of the late great J Dilla. The challenges or having expectations on his shoulder; they’d come anyway. He pushes hard to earn. But being seen as just ‘some dude flowing over Dilla beats,’ or as some Slum Village hanger-on… nah, miss him with that.

Events: The #DearDilla Private Video Screening In Atlanta with Phife Dawg (The @KoolKila Report)

dear dilla screenThursday night, February 6, 2014, the Atlanta music community came together for a special video premier party, celebrating the new solo release from Phife (A Tribe Called Quest). “Dear Dilla” pays tribute to the legendary hip hop producer James Yancey, aka J Dilla. The single drops in time for the yearly “Dilla Day” celebration of the famed producer’s birthday in February. J Dilla produced classic songs for A Tribe Called Quest, Busta Rhymes, De La Soul, Common, The Roots, and is very notably admired for his solo albums and work with Slum Village. He died from a rare blood disease in 2006.

The new single, “Dear Dilla,” produced by DJ Rasta Root (longtime friend and DJ of Phife and A Tribe Called Quest), is Phife’s first new music in over 13 years. He participated in a Q&A with DJ Rasta Root, video director Konee Rok and independent Atlanta artist 4-Ize (co-star in the video). Also on hand for special performances was rap artist and MC Boog Brown (who performed J Dilla’s material), and DJ Fudge of 5 Star Generals.

Held at Landmark’s Midtown Art Cinema theatre, the video release party played host to many of Atlanta’s music trendsetters, DJs, journalists, music connoisseurs and fans. The video premier was hosted by Jayforce of the Beatz & Lyrics show (WRFG FM). Sponsors of the event included Whole Foods, Jayforce.com, Okayplayer.com, Mono, and Zico Coconut Water . Bling47 brings us a super rare Slum Village/ J Dilla treat. Previously unreleased music. By unreleased, we mean aside from a handful of folks (most at Slum Village shows in the 1990s), NO ONE has experienced it. As our guide, Detroit producer House Shoes takes us through the music in this video Bling47 calls “Feelin Good” (filmed, edited, and animated by Waajeed)…referencing a rare J Dilla cover of “Feelin Good” (a song made famous by Nina Simone).
