DJ Babu: The Turntablist (Video)

One third of the Dilated Peoples & active member of the world’s famous Beat Junkies, DJ Babu spoke in an interview with the good folks up there in Chicago…

“DJ Babu is almost unmatched when it comes to the turntables. He ushered in new styles and techniques that not only resulted in multiple DJ competition titles, but also being credited with coining the term “turntablist.” It’s definitely an honor, but one DJ Babu is not totally comfortable with claiming.” – RubyHornet

4-ize Sticker Campaign Causes Stir in Atlanta

For Atlanta residents seeing a red sticker on a sign, pole, or wall usually mean one thing; 4ize has been here.
4ize’s stickers have been a apart of the city for years and this week some of the good folks at CBS Atlanta took notice (few years too late). The news crew counted close to 100 stickers on the Flat Shoals exit ramp on I-20 East and they have been there for quite some time.
4ize tweeted: “Must be a slow day in Atlanta news when they reporting on my 4 year old sticker demo.”
CBS interviewed some people who had complaints about the stickers and sought out the Atlanta Department of Public Works to see what their stance was on the stickers. A spokesman for the office deemed it illegal. We will see if any further actions are take regarding the stickers, TOTAL WASTE OF TIME but the promotion garnered from this non-story is what the stickers were put up for.

Punchline – ‘On My Grind’

New track from New York’s own Punchline which is apart of a new project with DJ SoulClap. This joint is dope.

Willie Evans Jr. – ‘BlackBlack’ (Instrumental)

New joint from Mc/Producer from High Water Music, Willie Evans Jr. This instrumental is apart of a mixtape dropping next week where Willie took Stones Throw artist Aloe Blacc’s album Good Things and flipped it into new tracks. The joints I’ve heard from the tape so far are really dope and a testament to Willie’s skill as a producer.

New R&B: The-Dream – ‘Body Work / F*ck My Brains Out’

The-Dream lets loose this track in anticipation for his upcoming album The Love IV (Diary Of A Madman). My initial reaction led me to believe that Terius Nash is drawing from Jodeci & Prince influences for inspiration. I dig how ‘Body Work’ transitions into the ‘F&ck My Brains Out’ portion of the song with an with an influence that’s sonically Prince in the overall vibe & production style.  I could do without all the extra profanity in R&B these days, but at least with The-Dream it doesn’t sound TOO forced for shock value. Well then again…. maybe I’m wrong but you probably don’t care anyway….

Purity Ring – ‘Lofticries’

When I first heard this song I knew I had to research & track down this joint. Initially I thought Purity Ring was a band, but it’s really a female artist who’s government name is Megan James. Megan is a part of a band called Gobble Gobble but this is a solo effort of hers & this track ‘Lofticries’ that caught my ear is a B-side to the primary single called ‘Ungirthed’ released back in April.
