“No Poison No Paradise” takes the listener on a journey through the experiences of Sonny, Jr. (a semi-autobiographical character), and his lucid dreams; growing up in a rough working-class neighborhood in Detroit.

Black Milk – “Sunday’s Best/Monday’s Worst” (Video)

“This video means a lot to me for few different reasons. One, it was cool to have some of my family members in the video. Also, shooting footage of the house I grew up in and spent my of my life in brought back so many memories of all of the music I recorded there, from ‘Sound of the City’ all the way through ‘Tronic.’ It was my first time being behind the camera as well and is probably my best video yet.”

Black Milk

An excellently seamless blend of two outstanding tracks from what promises to be an outstanding project – Black Milk’s upcoming album “No Poison No Paradise” (due out October 15, 2013) – this is the video for “Sunday’s Best/Monday’s Worst.” The album boasts guest features that include Dwele, Quelle Chris, Black Thought (of The Roots), and jazz pianist Robert Glasper. If you visit this site and listen to the Beatz & Lyrics show frequently, you know Black gets press and play over here. Respect man. Respect.

Black Milk – “Perfected On Puritan Ave”

Black Milk - JAYFORCE.COMDefinitely a head nod track to start, this “Perfected On Puritan Ave” drifts into a lofty break… then breaks into a high-energy brass and beat jazz number for a sec… then calms back down and floats away in the end. It’s a mental and instrumental ride for the listener. Take a listen; and keep an ear out for Black Milk’s LP – “No Poison No Paradise” – due out October 15, 2013.

Black Milk x Pen – “Computer Ugly Ugly/Why Worry”

artworks-000044599420-jc2jyq-t500x500

“Computer Ugly Ugly/Why Worry” is a quick slick blend from Black Milk’s “Synth Or Soul” instrumental project (due out April 20, 2013) – first of the instrumental/art series Fuzz, Freqs & Colors (FFC). FFC is the first project launched by the new creative house Computer Ugly. You can listen to the blend and pre-order the full-length below.

Interesting music born from an interesting process – each volume starts with producer Black Milk and illustrator Upendo “Pen” Taylor (Nike, Leroy Jenkins, Gatorade) trading beats and sketches and refining their works along the way (e.g. the music is shaped by the visual art and the visual art is shaped by the music).

Souls Of Mischief – “Stop And Look” (Remix) [Prod. By Black Milk]

Stop and Look RemixAdrian Younge is mixing of old soul with music in step with (maybe even a bit ahead of) today’s trends for a collaborative project with Delfonics front man William Hart “Adrian Younge Presents the Delfonics” (due out March 12, 2013). The lead single put a Hip-Hop twist on the tried and true sound – a track called “Stop and Look (And You Have Found Love)” …and now… This… is… the [“Stop and Look”] remix. Check out Detroit’s Black Milk track work, blessed by lyrics from West Coast Golden Era emcee troupe Souls Of Mischief.

Black Milk – Demo Beats 2012

Detroit producer & emcee Black Milk took to his soundcloud page to release some of the beats he’s cooked up for 2012 for his fans’ audio consumption. It’s about time we heard something from Black Milk who seemed to be rather quiet for most of the year. I’m still hoping he drops an official song & video for that ‘Don Cornelius’ joint he teased us with a while back. After listening sitting here listening to these instrumental demo joints, the track that catches my attention the most occurs around the 2:50 mark. That’s that gritty Detroit hip hop most of us fiend for. Black Milk has to stop disappearing like this. I’d like to see Black Milk put out more videos from past albums while in between projects to hold fans over until the new stuff is done. Until he does I guess these demo instrumentals should suffice for how.

Elzhi – “Deep” (Sourface Remix)

British producer Sourface took a run at remixing an Elzhi release (originally produced by Black Milk). The joint is “Deep” – the track that was remixed… it’s called “Deep” (you knew what I meant). Cold soul groove. Check it out, and get a FREE download, here.
