NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert Series Presents: Mac Miller (RIP) [Video]

One more time for Mac Miller man. RIP to the young emcee we will sorely miss. He did leave us with a dope Tiny Desk Concert. Small comfort, but good stuff nonetheless.

Aug. 6, 2018 | There was a shift in Mac Miller’s boisterous demeanor as he started the third of his three-song Tiny Desk set. It’s the first time he’s performed tracks from his new album, Swimming, in front of an audience. On “2009,” he rubbed his chin with clenched eyes, looking like a young man who’s beginning to crack the code. Backed by a piano loop and a string quartet, he reflected on his journey’s peaks and valleys…

Got Thundercat in there, too. Nice!

Funk/Soul: Thundercat – “Show You The Way” feat. Michael McDonald x Kenny Loggins (Video)

Okay… Thundercat is OUT THERE! See, “Them Changes” was already… er, eccentric. Well, this is a sequel to that; and it is CRAY in the best way. Like features (and actual appearances) from Doobie Bro Michael McDonald and Kenny “Footloose” Loggins. REALLY the best way. Awesomeness from the ’80s travels to the future to continue our tale of the armless Samurai.

(Yeah. Just watch!)

Kendrick Lamar – “These Walls” (Video)

Recently I was watching Comedian Corey Holcomb‘s “5150 Show” and he mentioned that he was going to be in the upcoming “These Walls” video by Kendrick Lamar.  If you know Corey then you know he is hilarious so I knew it was going to be something worth checking out.  Well the video has now dropped and it didn’t disappoint.  Kendrick has it titled correctly as a Black comedy because it is an 8 min piece.  You know how Kendrick does he gives you humor and a message all tied in together.

Thundercat – “Them Changes” (Video)

Nobody move. There’s blood on the floor. And I can’t find my heart.

This is craaaazy! Crazy fon-kay, too. This visual meal for “Them Changes” from Thundercat is a mish-mash of hot what-the-funk smothered in some ‘huh?’ sauce. A challenge to fully digest in one sitting, but all served in the most enjoyable way. Please watch, and if you likes…Why not check out the LP stream that link follows for more?

Kanye West – “Black Skinhead” (Flying Lotus & Thundercat Remix)

artworks-000065004711-9n7x9w-t500x500The original Yeezy production – “Black Skinhead” – already went out of bounds (BOUND!) and crossed genres (and lines) on its own. Now… let Flying Lotus get in there with an instrumental, and Thundercat clown on it. Seems like we ought to call it more than a remix. Let’s call it damn good and get to playing and replaying it instead of wasting time trying to describe the indescribable, alright?

KANYE WEST – BLACK SKINHEAD (FLYING LOTUS & THUNDERCAT REMIX)

Alternative: Thundercat – “Lotus and the Jondy”

The ThundercatsRecorded in Adrian Younge’s studio, Los Angeles (California, USA) bassist/songwriter/vocalist Stephen Bruner aka Thundercat takes us plenty of places on this track “Lotus & The Jondy.” There is structure to this single – in that it has a beginning and end, instrumentation and vocals… But the flow is very fluid. Organic to say the least… with Thundercat’s chanting lyrically throughout and drummer Thomas Pridgen going off in the latter half. Check out this auditory experiment from the album “Apocalypse” (due out On July 9, 2013).
