Walken, Pacino, & Arkin Are All “Stand Up Guys” (Movie Trailer)
Christopher Walken. Alan Arkin. Al Pacino. STOP! I’m already IN!
“Stand Up Guys” tells the story of Val (played by Pacino) released from prison after serving twenty-eight years; being a ‘stand-up guy’ (e.g. refusing to give up one of his close criminal associates). His best friend Doc (played by Walken) is there to pick him up, and the two soon re-team with another old pal, Hirsch (played by Arkin). Despite their age, they still let bullets fly, burn out car tires… and try to catch up on all the crime, drugs and sex they’ve missed. But one of these friends has a dangerous secret dilemma. A former mob boss has a difficult ‘job’ for him that he must do; and his time to find an acceptable alternative is running out. As the sun rises on the guys’ legendary reunion, their position becomes more and more desperate, and they finally confront their past once and for all.

Tommy Lee Jones and Matthew Fox Seek Justice in Post-World War II Japan In “Emperor” (Movie Trailer)
War being an ultimate evil, carried out by loyalists who kill and destroy on a massive scale, how can we hope to bring ‘war criminals’ to justice – to bring closure to the war and ensure justice and peace for both sides? Can we call an enemy combatant a criminal who was doing the same thing our warriors and officers were doing just because we won? Big dilemma.
As the Japanese surrender at the end of WWII, General Douglas MacArthur (played by Tommy Lee Jones) charges General Bonner Fellers (played by Matthew Fox) with the task of deciding if Emperor Hirohito will be hanged as a war criminal. Influencing Fellers’ ruling is his quest to find Aya, an exchange student he met years earlier in the U.S.
“Emperor” tells a portion of the story of post-war justice in Japan (with a love story sort of mixed in, of course). Bold (and secret) moves that won the peace in that time are shared and explored. But more pressing than the measures taken, consider a couple of the issues/questions faced at the time:
- Emperor Hirohito was considered a god to many in Japan. How do you bring a god to man’s ‘justice’?
- Emperor Hirohito being a spiritual leader, not a figure wielding much political or war-making power, may have been no more than a figurehead for government and military officials to use to rally troops. Can we find justice in sentencing a figurehead to death?
A spiritual figure of a people put to death for ‘crimes’ per the judgement of those who had the power to do so. Why does that sound familiar? Argh! I know this one… hair like wool… feet like bronze… Jesus why can’t I remember?
Well, I’ll leave it there. Interesting story. Looks like this could be a good movie. Tommy Lee Jones movies often are.

N.O.R.E. (Papi) – “What What” Documentary (Trailer) [NSFW]
Back in the day before the internet & street DVDs were prevalent, Queens emcee NORE recorded many moments with a videocamera. From the looks of this trailer to his new documentary he’s captured many intimate moments with significant individuals in the music industry over the years. Be on the look out for the “What What” documentary. This makes me want to start pouring through the 100s of old videos & interviews I recorded from 90′-’98 as well. There’s some brief nudity in this trailer that may Not Be Safe For Work.
“Nore was taping everything. We used to go around with this and just hit record, if we wanted an interview we made it happen. What What!”

Quentin Tarantino Argues With Interviewer About The Violence In The ‘Django Unchained’ Movie (Video)
There was some great dialogue going on in this interview with director Quentin Tarantino initially regarding the movie Django Unchained, which I thought was a very good film. The real dialogue involving slavery & why Quentin Tarantino made the film began to unravel when the reporter Krishnan Guru-Murthy of Britain’s Channel 4 News tried to steer discussion to fit whatever agenda he was attempting to push. In Quentin Tarantino’s defense he’s answered questions about violence in his films for years so for the reporter to retread the same questions was not only a bit nauseating but derailed what could have otherwise been a good & insightful interview with more answers regarding the film. I don’t believe reporters & interviewers need to be all “buddy buddy”, “Friends”, or “D*ck riders”, when dealing with their interview subjects, but they don’t necessarily need to be a douche either.

Quentin Tarantino Considered Making a ‘Luke Cage’ Movie (Video)
Yeah man! Can you imagine? In the above clip, grindhouse movie guru Quentin Tarantino actually thought about producing a Luke Cage (one of Marvel Comics’ first Black super-heroes) movie… or something like it. Tarantino is a comic enthusiast, too. So, you know it would have been raw!
“After ‘Reservoir Dogs,’ I had considered doing a Luke Cage, Hero for Hire movie. [Hollywood producer] Ed Pressman owned the rights at that time, and we talked about it,” Tarantino said. “I talked to Larry Fish [Laurence Fishburne] about being Luke Cage, and he really liked that idea. Then I ended up writing Pulp Fiction.”
– Tarantino to MTV News
Well… you never know. In the meantime, “Django Unchained” – Tarantino’s newest movie (due out Christmas Day) – should be good.

Dewayne Johnson Stars in ‘Snitch’ (Movie Trailer)
This new movie “Snitch” – starring Dewayne “The Rock” Johnson – looks very interesting. But I am not sure if the premise is realistic. Although it says the movie is inspired by true events. Just saying… can you “switch snitch” for your son who won’t… and if you could would you? I dunno. But it’ll be action-packed regardless. I’m in!
“After Earth” (Movie Trailer)
Will Smith and his son, Jaden, team up on another movie headed to a theater near you. I just got a look at the trailer. Two words… OH SH!T!! The above first look for the movie “After Earth” teases what is sure to be a film full of non-stop action… and drama… and a lot of over-the-top brooding and hollering that is classic Will. I wonder how Jaden will stack up in an action thriller, co-starring with arguably the most reliable ‘big sell’ in modern Hollywood cinema? Check out the clip above, and join me in some gold ol’ fashioned salivating! This should be good.
Star Trek: Into Darkness (Trailer)
OMG! I’m such a Trek nerd! So… I bet this movie will get you geeked over the ultimate sci-fi series, too. The second in the movie reboot of Gene Roddenberry’s creation is coming to theaters; and it’s about damn time. J.J. Abrams… Star Trek: Into Darkness… LET’S GO!
(Ooooohhh sh!t… was that the Enterprise crashing into the ocean in that last part of the clip???)
Ride To The Death (Trailer )
Cats in my hometown of Philly been riding these bikes around the city & throughout the neighborhoods for years. Interesting to see Meek Mill just tweeted about this new documentary on the Philly bike scene entitled “Ride to the Death.”
‘“Ride to the Death” is and introspective look into the street bike culture. Contrast to the stunts, dirt tracks, and the celebrity of American Motocross, and allows you to dive beneath the layers of the urban inner city bike culture. This particular tale takes you to the City of Brotherly love Philadelphia, PA. Original Series coming soon. Produced by M-Vision Films Directed by Lamar McPherson.’
In a strange twist of irony, the documentary is called “Ride To The Death” when in fact one of the bike riders featured in the documentary is actually “Deaf”. No pun intended.

A3C x Atlanta Film Festival: “Change In The Game” (Documentary)
A3C Hip-Hop Festival, Wonderroot and Atlanta Film Festival present “Change In The Game” – a short film by W. Feagins, Jr. As we posted earlier here, the showing was a major happening for A3C 2012 held in October in Atlanta. “Change In The Game” discussed some of the changes that have happened and have affected Hip-Hop (since its birth in the early 1970s) – including how its music is created and received, what factors influenced those changes (technology, increased commercial appeal, etc.), and the relationship between so-called old school and new school artists.

“City Of God” – 10 Years Later (Video)
The gripping 2002 film, “City of God” (see trailer after the jump), hit viewers in the heart with a story straight from of Brazilian streets, featuring native actors who (for the most part) weren’t acting…Â Rather, they were sharing what’s real life-and-death in the ‘City’ just 15 miles outside lovely touristy Rio de Janeiro.
The above clip is for a revisit to the ‘City’ 10 years later. This documentary by Cavi Borges and Luciano Vidigal looks back in on subjects from the original film. Youngsters from the streets of Rio back then, their lives have changed of course – in part because of the movie and the attention it brought to aspects of Brazilian culture. A full flick is slated for release by the end of 2012, and should be considered a must watch.

Nice Black Western coming up! “They Die By Dawn” stars Erykah Badu, Michael K. Williams, Rosario Dawson, Giancarlo Esposito and Isaiah Washington. Jeymes Samuel directs what is sure to be a good look for the massive movie ticket and popcorn taxes they hit you with at theaters. Not cheap… just saying… spending hard-earned money sucks more when the movie sucks. Doesn’t look like that’ll be a problem with this flick. Look at Erykah Badu flex with the shottie. Nice!
