Superfan James Cawley Recreated The ‘Star Trek’ Set Like No One Has Before (Video)

Built his own sci-fi dream set. To quote Witchdoctor, “Every day is a holiday.” He’d probably call it something cooler than ‘Star Trek’ Day, so I’d leave to this guy.

Meet the “Star Trek” Superfan James Cawley who has meticulously recreated the sets for the Enterprise from the original 1960s television series.

How Star Trek’s Transporter Could Actually Work In Real Life (Video)

Well, hello! You had us at ‘Star Trek.’ But a real-life transporter? Amazing! Theoretically at least. And to all the nay-sayers… Shaddup!! This is just a pre-first attempt at it. Just thinking aloud about transporter tech. Where do you think the inspiration for the old mobile flip phones (‘Kirk to Enterprise’) and the iPad technology (thank you for the report, Yeoman Lady-In-The-Tight-Miniskirt) came from? Yeah, STAR TREK!

Of course, the whole make-a-copy-and-destroy-the-original idea that drives this… not really feeling that.

Get Ready Sonequa Martin-Green, Starring In The New ‘Star Trek’ Series This Fall (Series Trailer)

Watch the explosive trailer for the next chapter of the Star Trek franchise. Star Trek: Discovery premieres September 24th on CBS All Access.

I hope you haven’t sleeping on Sonequa Martin-Green, esp. when she was on Talking Dead, as a guest talking about her role on AMC’s The Walking Dead. She’d be dressed up and made up like WHOA! – in direct contrast to her necessarily understated look on TWD. Well, she is far from dusty on her new show Star Trek: Discovery, though they still play down her beauty (you see it though).

Her ‘death’ on TWD did not hit fans as hard as ‘losing’ other characters because they knew Sonequa would be okay joining an ‘enterprise’ like the Star Trek franchise (see what we did there?). This dope trailer is just more evidence supporting how great this next chapter in the Star Trek lore is gonna be!

Star Trek: Discovery (First Look Series Trailer)

YES!!! Debuting on CBS television, then moving to CBS All Access, the first new Star Trek TV series in 16 years is on the way. Coming this Fall, Star Trek: Discovery! Full disclosure: I am VERY biased in favor of this series for three huge reasons: For one, because Star Trek. Second, there’s my major crush on star Sonequa Martin-Green (whose character went out like a G on AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’ a few weeks ago). And then, yooooo, when Michelle Yeoh gives the order to ‘contact Starfleet’ because they have ‘engaged the Klingons’ … I got the same tingles when Captain Piccard (Patrick Stewart) delivered the classic line back in the day (“We have engaged The Borg”).

Before Kirk, Spock and the Enterprise there was Discovery. Now, one of the most iconic and influential global franchises returns to television with Star Trek: Discovery. The CBS All Access Original Series arrives this Fall.

Maaaan, I got two boners. Nerd boner. And, well, it’s almost noon, right?

Star Trek Beyond (Trailer)

This Summer, once again, seems like it’s going to be a good one with the slate of big budget films scheduled to be released in 2016. The 3rd sequel to the latest Star Trek films continue to go where no man has gone before with “Star Trek Beyond” due to hit the theaters this summer on July 22nd with actor Idris Elba supposedly playing the villain role in this one. There shouldn’t be anyway for director Justin Lin to “Sabotage” this one. Word to the Beastie Boys

Liu Dejian Shows Us How To Boldly Go Where No Man Has Gone Before (Video)

Okay, so when Captain James T. Kirk and his crew took the Enterprise (and the Star Trek sci-fi franchise) on its maiden voyage, the colloquialism ‘take it there’ did not exist. Five decades after that first five-year mission, Liu Dejian, founder of mainland China’s online gaming firm NetDragon Websoft, did something so bold that true Trekkers should fall to their knees…then get up and come aboard!

Dude BUILT the Enterprise! Well, he built NetDragon Websoft world headquarters modeling it after Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Enterprise 1701-D. And before any haters or nitpickers say a damn thing, let Liu boldly show you the restroom. Duuuuude… the doors whoosh like on the Enterprise!

Enjoy (or hate) the clip above!

Technology: 24-Year Old Med Student Finds Futuristic Solution For The World’s Ills [Cover Story]

Photograph by Katrin Koenning, article by John Tozzi, for Bloomberg Businessweek.

Here is a frustrating problem: Pneumonia, though treatable with antibiotics, kills more children than any other cause (mostly in South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa), according to the World Health Organization.

Enter the problem-solver! Hon Weng Chong, a 24-year-old student at Melbourne (Australia) Medical School, has developed a quick way to diagnose children in areas where health care is scarce. He’s built a stethoscope that can plug into a smartphone and doesn’t require medical training to use. Unfortunately, for now, there is a lack of speedy networks and smartphones in the areas of need. Sad… and the same problem exists in rural/poor locales in MANY countries (like my own, the United States). But imagine if we could overcome this obstacle… lots of diagnoses and prescribed treatments could be done doctor-free (talk about healthcare reform)… high-blood pressure, urinary tract infections… all kinds of one-test-one-pill situations. Improved health outcomes the world over… DONE!
