Nightline: 50 Cent In Somalia (Video)

video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo playerI remember getting into little debates with people on the radio about 50 Cent aka Curtis Jackson & one of those small debates were about his ability to give other people opportunities instead of bloodsucking their talents & resources like many artists/ceo’s in hip hop that I won’t mention at this time. Recently 50 Cent appeared on ABC’s Nightline special as he made a trip to Somalia as part of his efforts to help feed a billion people which is a part of his Street King humanitarian initiatives. I honestly believe 50 is not doing all of this as a publicity stunt. I truly believe that’s the kind of guy he really is personally. A good dude who life’s circumstances necessitated that he move in a manner to survive from the streets & in the music industry, but his heart was always in a good place.

Diddy Announces REVOLT Music and News TV Network (Video)

Sean “Diddy” Combs announces REVOLT, his new cable TV network. REVOLT is a revolution in music on television, a place where artists and their viewers come together and engage with technology and social media. It’s a channel where new artists can share their work in the way it was meant to be: raw, uncut, and uncensored. REVOLT was selected by Comcast to be the first music network to truly leverage the power of social media, fueling the live music dialogue and influencing the music culture for the video-centric generation.” – REVOLT

Classic Clips: Happy Bornday Nina Simone! (February 21,1933)

This is one of my many favorites from the one of the greatest jazz musician/songwriters, who was the embodiment of “Black is Beautiful”, Nina Simone (February 21,1933-April 21,2003). Although she wasnt traditional jazz, nor did she have the tradional smooth jazz/lounge voice like Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington,or Ella Fitzgerald but check the linear notes of any of your favorite hip hop albums and you will see her joints credited for samples everywhere. Heads knew muscially Nina Simone would “Put a Spell on You”.

Black & Latino In The U.S. (Video)

My homie & dope visual artist Dubelyoo brought this interview to my attention with entertainers who happen to be both Black & Latino. It’s funny how some people I know are ignorant how you can be both, but I blame that on their inability to travel. What some people fail to realize is that being “Latino” is more centered on “culture” more so than “race”. Check out this interesting interview of the experiences from entertainers such as Laz Alonso (“Avatar”, “Jumping the Broom”), Tatyana Ali (“Fresh Prince of Bel Air”), Gina Torres (“Suits, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys”) and Judy Reyes (“Scrubs”), musicians Christina Milian (“Dip it Low”) and Kat DeLuna (“Whine Up”), and journalist Soledad O’Brien

Scott Storch Arrested For Cocaine Possession In Las Vegas (Video)

As a fellow Philadelphia native it hurts me to see producer & arranger Scott Storch go through his struggles with drug addiction. Considering I remember meeting him during his early days with The Roots. According to TMZ, Scott was picked up in Las Vegas last month after failing to pay for his hotel room before getting knocked for cocaine possession. Hopefully Scott can live up to his “Tuff Jew” moniker & eventually kick the habit or get it under control somehow.

Nightclubs As Research Labs (Video)

I found this video to be pretty interesting from a scientific aspect as nightclubs are being being used as research labs. Topics covered in the video refer to how music can affect bar sales and people’s ability to multitask, how it determines listening patterns, and how the stock market can affect mood, which in turn predicts the characteristics of popular music. The above lecture quite frankly breaks down social nightclub behaviour with a particular emphasis on music and how it affects people at an implicit level. Spotted at 2DBZ
