Chris Brown – “Real Hip Hop Sh*t #4” (Prod. 9th Wonder) [Video]

I remember when Chris Brown dropped this 9th Wonder produced track on the web almost a year or so ago. I was surprised to see Chris Brown’s flow was better than most rappers in mainstream rap today. From the looks of thangs the new video that just dropped is even better too….

R&B: Miguel – “Arch N Point” (Video)

Just days after releasing his “Art Dealer Chic Vol 2.” EP a few days ago, R&B artist Miguel drops this new video for what I consider to be the best song from the 3-song project called “Arch N Point”.

The-Dream – “Kill The Lights” feat. Casha (Video)

The-Dream releases a new video for “Kill The Lights” featuring his new artist Casha. This is a really good song on the R&B side of things & the video is pretty glossed out too. I’m not mad at it at all. The song is one of my favorite R&B joints to have dropped in the last few months. The Atlanta singer’s new album “LOVE IV” is set to become available this Summer 2012.

R&B: Miguel – Art Dealer Chic Vol 2. (EP)

After dropping his first in the “Art Dealer Chic” EP series last month, Miguel is back with volume 2 in what he described would be a three part project. Vol. 3 is supposed to drop at the end of April, but for now you can check out “Arch & Point”, “All”, & “Broads” by clicking on the artwork or the links below…..

R&B/Soul: Joy Denalane feat. Bilal – “Should Have Never” (Jake One Remix)

I’ve been up on Germany’s Joy Denalane for a few years now, but new songs from her don’t pop up that often from the multilingual soul singer since the 2006 release of her “Born & Raised” project. It was her standout track “Change” featuring Lupe Fiasco that really caught my attention coincidentally after I had returned back to Atlanta from a trip visiting with friends in Germany.  Her solo appearances & collaborations are still rare releases but she still pops up every now & then on joints with fellow R&B artists like Dwele & Bilal as well as popping up on a few rap artists & producer based projects like on Virginia’s NOTTZ song “How Long Will It Last” from his “You Need This Music” album two years ago.   So with her relative absence in releasing any new material for a few years it was surprise to see OKP premier this new remix from Seattle based producer Jake One.  Joy Denalane is set to drop a brand new project on April 3rd entitled “Maureen” which apparently has a much deeper significance other than it just being her middle name. It’s makes even more sense considering the early reports that the album has a dark bluesy & soulful edge to it that is quite difficult to fully categorize.  Looking forward to some more goodness with this….We’ve waited long enough

R&B: Ameriie – “Every Time” (Prod. By Focus…)

Our homie & part-time radio show co-host, Focus…, played us a gang of bangers in his studio that he produced for cats but I can’t remember if this newly released Amerie Ameriie joint was one of them. I also noticed that his signature “producer tag” is different so it’s possible this is a much older unreleased track that may have been recorded a while ago. It wouldn’t matter either way because damn near everything Focus… touches works because he can go in a variety of directions or audio “textures” as he would say. Not sure what’s up with the slight name change with an additional “i” in her name from the beautiful blasian songstress, but as long as her next mini-LP “The Prelude” sounds as good as this joint does who cares.

Theophilus London x Solange Perform ‘Flying Overseas’ Live (Video)

Theophilus London’s song “Flying Overseas” featuring Solange is one of my personal favorite songs in recent years. It’s a song that gets repeated play in my itunes at times. While down at the SXSW festival Solange joined Theophilus on stage for a live performance of this beautiful song.

Tall Black Guy – “What’s Good” (James Brown – I Feel Good Flip)

This dude Tall Black Guy never ceases to amaze me with these soulful bangers he keeps dropping. Check out how he flipped this “I Feel Good” joint by the Godfather James Brown.  The Detroit producer did this jawn special for his fans after reaching over 5,000 followers on twitter soundcloud. Y’all need to follow him on twitter if you want to keep up with all the gems he keeps dropping on the web.  If you’re like me you have to occasionally rummage through his twitter timeline to see what else is new. I’m always looking forward to hearing anything he drops & this joint right here I’m sure the ‘Godfather Of Soul’ himself is looking down proud…..

B.O.B. – “So Good” (Video)

Man this is a really great song & video from Atlanta’s own B.O.B. for his latest single “So Good”. The video was filmed down in beautiful Buenos Aires, Argentina….great sound, good look, & good subject matter that anyone around the world could relate too. Bobby Ray continues to make some great moves & choices that only seem to further his rise as a global superstar beyond just hip hop…..

ForteBowie – “Impala” (Video)

This joint is pretty cool from southside Atlanta emcee, singer, & producer ForteBowie. This new single & video for “Impala” appears on his “Something About #Bowie” mixtape that’s out now.  Not sure if this will also appear on his project Passion & Confusion due in April but this definitely a nice precursor to that because its a definite standout track on the mixtape in my opinion.  Having a wide range of abilities in playing a variety of instruments as well with writing & song/vocal arrangements I’m not sure if ForteBowie will be going into a variety of directions with his next full-length project or if it will be similar to the mixtape.  The video was shot by director Supadope in the Cobb county area of Atlanta featuring a chocolate stunna named “Cali” who plays the female love interest.  Check out the video and/or listen to or download the mixtape including this joint “Impala” under the hood…….

R&B/Soul: Mar – “Our Attempt”

Swedish R&B/Soul singer Mar is back with another quality soul gem with “Our Attempt” which is his first single off of his 5 song EP called “Seeing Her Naked” that he’s releasing in conjunction with Okayplayer. Mar is one of those types of artists that you may not be a familiar with them, but you grow fond of their work with every release because they keep the quality control level high everytime. I’m still bouncing to the joint he did with D.C. producer Oddisee called “Inglewood” as well as the “April 14th” joint with london based swedish singer Szjerdene. Looking forward to the hearing the entire EP later this month especially after looking at this sexy cool looking cover above….

R&B/Soul: John West – “Nobody”

L.A. based singer John West has been coming with some quality songs with each release but the leaks haven’t been too abundant or frequent. I was enjoying the “Lovely” joint with Pusha T that he put out in March of last year around this time & here he comes again with another quality joint called “Nobody”. Great work. I’m even more looking forward to his upcoming album to be released on Mercury/Island Def Jam. I usually can tell if I dig a song if I played it more that 2 or 3 times in a row. This was one of those types of songs….

Frank Ocean – “Whip Appeal”

Before you start thinking this is a remake of Babyface’s classic R&B record “Whip Appeal” just stop right there with that thought & simply hit play on this joint that the New Orleans born-Cali living artist just dropped via his tumbler page.  Definitely not the same thang so just enjoy….

FRANK OCEAN – WHIP APPEAL

R&B/Soul: Frank Ocean – “Thinking About You” (Official Version)

We rarely ever post songs that are all tagged up with drops & shoutouts so when this Frank Ocean joint initially hit the web we passed on posting it for those reasons. Now here’s the official radio version of the Frank Ocean’s “Thinking About You” minus the tags & with some tweaks to the actual song by Frank himself…
FRANK OCEAN – THINKING ABOUT YOU

R&B: Jhene Aiko – “3:16” (Preview)

R&B singer & new Def Jam signee Jhene Aiko let’s loose this new teaser to her upcoming video entitled “3:16” which according to her interview with Soulculture is her birthday & of course today’s date. I’m thinking they may have not had enough time to actually release the full video at 3:16am on March 16th so why not a little teaser to prep the fans. I’m a fan of her earlier work with her free ‘Sailing Soul(s)’ album/mixtape so hopefully her new move to Def Jam is a good one for her artistically & from a marketing & business perspective….

RE:GENERATION (Movie)

The Re:Generation Music Project is a documentary funded by Hyundai in association with the Grammys as they follow a team of selected DJs, Producers, & artists such as DJ Premier, Skrillex, The Crystal Method, Pretty Lights & Mark Ronson as they is all pair up with musical genres that are unfamiliar to them and are assigned the mission of creating something original & unique for the project. We had no idea the documentary was already online but thanks to Soulbounce on the heads up. The documentary is available for free viewing on Hulu as their “Documentary of the Month” for March & April so you best take advantage & sit back for an hour & watch it now.

R&B/Soul: Frank Ocean – “White”

This is the full version of “White”, the only solo Frank Ocean track from the upcoming Odd Future Tape Vol. 2. The song is only two minutes long but its still pretty soulful & quality work. I could honestly care less about an Odd Future album but I’m definitely anticipating the next album from Frank Ocean on the solo. Listen below to this joint & check out the lyrics to the song under the hood….

David Banner feat. Big K.R.I.T. – “Believe”

This is a pretty dope joint from David Banner featuring fellow Mississippi native Big K.R.I.T. called “Believe”. From a production standpoint this is a pretty dope flip on the Jodeci classic “Love U For Life”. Be on the lookout for David Banner’s next project “Sex, Drugs, & Video Games” due May 22nd & ….
