Ken Burns Covers ‘The War’ In This PBS Documentary (Mini-Series Trailer)

We posted a World War I era documentary days ago, got several recent Ken Burns documentary posts – one about the Civil War. But how about Burns taking us to and through World War II? Yep, got that for you. Well, Netflix does. But we have the trailer embedded above.

THE WAR, a seven-part series directed and produced by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, tells the story of the Second World War through the personal accounts of a handful of men and women from four quintessentially American towns. The series explores the most intimate human dimensions of the greatest cataclysm in history – a worldwide catastrophe that touched the lives of every family on every street in every town in America – and demonstrates that in extraordinary times, there are no ordinary lives.

Transformers: Age Of Extinction (Official Trailer)

After a couple of shorter trailers leading up to the Super Bowl, director Michael Bay & the makers of the fourth installment of the Transformers films give us more of the premise & of what we can expect when the new sequel hits theaters this summer. After viewing this trailer it appears this could be the darkest sequel of the Transformers movies that have up to this point grossed close to $3 billion dollars worldwide. Not only does the film appear to be grittier, but the fans will not find former lead actor Shia LaBeouf in the lead role in this one although producers have easily found a suitable replacement.

Mark Wahlberg plays a struggling mechanic trying to make ends meet to support his family when he makes a discovery in search for scrap auto parts. It turns out that one of the beat up vehicles he finds turns out to be Optimus Prime. There’s not much else given away in the storyline between the Autobots, Decepticons, & the adversarial government forces but from the trailer it’s clear the popular ‘Dinobots’ from the cartoon series will surface in the film. I’m looking forward to it when the film hits theaters June 27th.

Nas – “Cherry Wine” (Trailer)

Without question Nas’s soon to be classic “Life Is Good” album is one of the best hip hop albums to have dropped this year. What makes me more excited is the way in which he’s releasing a single for many of the songs from the project. Nas is set to drop this 5th video from the “Life Is Good” project with one of my favorite songs off the album entitled “Cherry Wine” featuring Amy Winehouse. Dope choice Mr. Jones…..Dope choice. Stay tuned to for the official full-length video premier….

9th Wonder – “The Wonder Year” (Preview)

I was fortunate to have attended the screening of 9th Wonder’s “Wonder Year” documentary here in Atlanta & now the North Carolina producer, DJ, & part-time emcee (9thmatic) alongside director Kenneth Price have allowed the first 8 minutes of the documentary to go up on the web for those of y’all who haven’t see the film yet. The full & complete DVD of the documentary is available now, but 9th Wonder & Kenneth Price have another on the way called “The Harvard Fellow” centered around 9th’s recent acceptance at Harvard to lecture & do research at the Ivy league University.

The Amazing Spider-Man (Trailer)

I enjoyed the previous Spider Man films starring Tobey Maguire that hit the big screen a few years back so when I initially heard that filmmakers were going to redo the series in theaters so soon I sort of groaned aloud thinking it’s probably gonna be wack. I’m having a change of heart watching these previews for “The Amazing Spider-Man” because it feels like the creators are simply revisiting the formula that was used to reboot DC Comic’s Batman films. The initial Batman films were very “comicbook-like” in nature while the most recent ones like “Batman Begins” & “The Dark Knight” have been darker & more adult in it’s approach. I believe that’s the plan for The Amazing Spider-Man when it hits theaters this summer….

The Dark Knight Rises (Trailer)

It’s gonna be a great summer of blockbuster movies with “The Dark Knight Rises” opening July 20th amongst a whole host of other highly anticipated superhero & action films we’re all looking forward to seeing. With this reportedly the last & final part in the Batman trilogy it’s expected that director Christopher Nolan will pull out all the stops with actor Christian Bale reprising his role as Bruce Wayne & the caped crusader.

John Forte’ – The Russian Winter Documentary [Trailer]

John Forte’ spent 14 years of his life in federal prison for drug trafficking. That’s a huge chunk out of anyone’s life considering he was once riding high within the Fugees camp & as a solo artist in his own right. Upon his release from prison John Forte’ made a trek to Russia where he worked closely with a number of charities & this upcoming documentary that will be presented during the Tribeca Music Festival covers that experience. Check out what John Forte’ had to say about this project & now wanting to do the typical “rapper out of jail” documentary.

“I think the knee-jerk reaction of coming home was to make a documentary about my life preceding prison, and what took place in prison, leading up to me coming home. But something about it just didn’t feel right. It felt exploitative. You know, I went to prep school. When I came back to the ‘hood, it wasn’t like people slapped me on the back and said, ‘Wow, you got your stripes now.’ But there were so many guys that went for a year, went away for two years, went away for five years. And when they came back, it was almost like they were praised. And that’s the last message I wanted to send. There was nothing cool about my time away.”John Forte’

Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap (Film Trailer)

Ice-T’s upcoming documentary looks very promising from the visuals & flow of this trailer. The documentary is set to drop in June of this year featuring KRS-ONE, Nas, Eminem, Chuck D of Public Enemy, Kanye West, Grandmaster Caz, Big Daddy Kane, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Common, & just so many other reputable emcees I’d be here all day just listing them all. Ice-T serves at the director of the film & the most impressive thing I’ve learned so far about process is that unlike many other possibly similar documentaries on hip hop or the ‘Art Of Rap’, ICE-T doesn’t utilize any archival footage so it’s evident no easy route was taken in producing this project. Looking forward to seeing this film…

R&B: Jhene Aiko – “3:16” (Preview)

R&B singer & new Def Jam signee Jhene Aiko let’s loose this new teaser to her upcoming video entitled “3:16” which according to her interview with Soulculture is her birthday & of course today’s date. I’m thinking they may have not had enough time to actually release the full video at 3:16am on March 16th so why not a little teaser to prep the fans. I’m a fan of her earlier work with her free ‘Sailing Soul(s)’ album/mixtape so hopefully her new move to Def Jam is a good one for her artistically & from a marketing & business perspective….
