Technology: Disney Research Scientist Creates Virtual Reality Experience That Looks & Feels Real
If ever there was such a thing as a touchy-feely techie, Ivan Poupyrev is. The 42-year-old son of a Russian mathematician, now senior research scientist at Disney Research, is leading us down a virtual reality (VR) path that could one day rival the experience of walking on a Star Trek Holo-Deck (y’all know I’m a Trekkie).
Having been at Disney since 2009, Poupyrev has also been working on technology that turns smooth surfaces into textures. Emitting a weak electrical signal through the body via a small device placed in the heel of a shoe or in a shirt pocket (see? like a Star Trek comm-badge… told ya!), Poupyrev’s technology can make the wearer “feel” images he projects. For example, when the wearer touches an image of a ball projected onto a wall, it feels rubbery to that person. Similarly, a wearer can feel the ridges on a projected image of a mountain. “We can easily add tactile feedback to any wall and public spaces,†Poupyrev says.
Easily… did you get that? This is NOTHING to Poupyrev and Disney! Like play time…

Politics: Mitt Romney Tells Millionaire Donors What He REALLY Thinks of Obama Voters (Video)
WOW! This is Willard Mitt Romney – raw, uncut, and unapologetic about his disregard and disrespect of nearly half of his fellow citizens! In the vignettes above and after the jump – video secretly recorded at a 50,000-dollar-a-plate Republican fundraiser first published on nonprofit watchdog blog Mother Jones – Mr. Romney lumps all Obama voters into a mass of shiftless moochers who don’t contribute much, if anything, to society. Among other horrible things he goes on to say, Mr. Romney quips that he might have been better off if his dad, who was born in Mexico, had actually been of Mexican descent… you know, to get some of that Latino vote his campaign needs.
Of course, Mr. Romney had to tell supporters in attendance that he could not speak about Obama in public the way he could there for fear of insulting independent voters who sided with Obama in 2008 (whom he needs to have a chance of winning in November). Good thing (for America) there was a “spy” in the room…recording the real Mitt Romney. Otherwise, many of us might have gone on thinking he was a “decent guy” who simply had different ideas than President Obama… with no idea how WRONG we would have been!
Want to know what is worse? That Mr. Romney has FINALLY said what a significant portion of Republican voters believe to be gospel truth! So he CANNOT really apologize for what he said, as he might lose their support (a point Judd Legum of ThinkProgress.org brilliantly made this morning on Current TV’s Full Court Press a.k.a. The Bill Press Show)! Mr. Romney did, however, make an attempt to back-track his awful comments… sort of… not really (read about it here)…

R&B: Elle Varner – “I Don’t Care” (Video)
Elle Varner’s superbly good “I Don’t Care” is such a dope song I even played it a few times on my hip hop radio show The Beatz & Lyrics Show on Saturday nights. Good choice to shoot a video for this standout track from her debut album “Perfectly Imperfect” that’s available now. Astute hip hop heads & connoisseurs will instantly recognize the sample used in the track is the same one flipped by Brooklyn rapper AZ for his classic song “Ho Happy Jackie” off of his 1995 album “Doe Or Die” years ago.

NFL Legend & Analyst Steve Young Says The NFL Doesn’t Care About Bad Refs & Player Safety (Video)
I watched last night’s Monday Night Football game as the Atlanta Falcons avoided a comeback win by the Denver Broncos 27-21, but Peyton Manning’s poor play in the first half wasn’t the most conspicuous thing that was terrible last night. The officiating is getting worse to the point its beginning to affect the quality of the game. We’ve just completed the second week of the NFL season & it’s apparent that the replacement refs the league are using need to go. The rapid erosion in their ability to control the momentum of game, the players & their spats on-field, & in getting a number of crucial calls right are showing up frequently. One replacement referee had to be removed from a Saints Vs. Panthers game after he was exposed as being an admitted diehard New Orleans Saints fan. A glaringly clear conflict of interest. Especially if these 10th string referees have any type of gambling problem. NFL Hall of Fame Quarterback & football analyst Steve Young said what many of us was thinking last night when he spoke on how the perception is the NFL doesn’t care about player safety or the increasingly poor performance of the referees. The NFL needs to get the official NFL referees back on the field before someone gets hurt & the league begins to damage it’s reputation.

Technology: Taking The E-Book Revolution To Africa
Software pioneer and philanthropist David Risher has been a force in the high-tech industry since the 1990s. Pivotal to the success of techie giants Microsoft and Amazon, Risher is looking to make high-tech history in a different way in the 21st century: Using e-books to spread literacy, literature, and increased opportunity across the African continent.
David Risher has already raised over $1.5 million in government and private sector funds in support of that mission; and his nonprofit, Worldreader, is shipping Amazon’s Kindle reader to schools and communities in sub-Saharan Africa with a near-term goal of providing 1 million e-books to children in the largely English-speaking countries of Ghana, Uganda, and Kenya in the next year. Awesomenesss! Respect, Mr. Risher. RESPECT!
Eye Candy: Valeria Orsini (Video)

Aspiring Rapper Tweets “YOLO” While Drunk Driving & Dies Minutes Later (Video)
Tragedy in 140 characters or less: “Drunk af going 120 drifting corners #FuckIt YOLO”
Those, in effect, were the last words of Ervin McKinness, a 21-year-old up-and-coming rapper, who died in a one-car crash that killed him and four others. Marquell Bogan, 23; Dylan George, 20; Jonathan Watson, 21; and JaJuan Bennett, 23 were also killed in the crash. There is no spin or new lesson here. You KNOW reckless, drunk driving is wrong. Though McKinness was NOT driving (according to the Huffington Post), you KNOW that texting and driving should NOT be done at the same time… whether it is against the law in your region or not. People… It’s true that you only live once; but by all means LIVE! Life is already risky and fragile. Driving 120… and driving drunk… adds deadly unnecessary risk. And in the midst of taking such risk, we certainly need not celebrate or tweet about it. In the postmortem, there is also no need to preach about it. It’s too late.
This is so sad. Rest In Peace, Young Brothers.

Fabolous – “SoNY” (Prod. By Just Blaze)
In his latest banger, “SoNY,” Fabolous says, “I’m so New York, Weezy probably don’t like me.” Okay… Lil Wayne ranted about not liking NY, but is this REALLY a Weezy diss? I’m not so sure. Keep clicking playing it below… you’ll make up your own mind, I’m sure. But consider that several lines on this joint could be taken as “shots” at certain somebodies. Whatever… this is a good NY prime choice cut. So, if it’s beef… let it cook. Fabolous is ready for it. Ask Ray J.
