Three Pro Football Players On Holding The Number 1 Spot: The Struggle Of The Black Quarterback (Video)

Good coverage and perspectives offered by The Undefeated in this piece. Maybe y’all remember (maybe not) Doug Williams coming from getting beat up with the [orange, really orange] Tampa Bay Bucs for YEARS in the League… to taking the Washington Redskins to the Super Bowl AND winning (with a bum leg) in one year… AND retiring and taking over for one of college football’s greatest coaches EVER, Eddie Robinson, at Grambling University… now that’s a “QuarterBlack” (published in 1990, link to Amazon here) story. Barely talked about.

And the struggle continues. But first, a bit more history… Don’t let them forget, we’ve always had Black QB’s that were the ‘ish!

The first wave of successful Black quarterbacks gave this entire generation of stars the role models they needed – but few know the actual struggles that these legends had to overcome behind the scenes. In conversations with The Undefeated’s senior NFL writer Jason Reid, these legends discuss their journey and how they each played a unique part of the evolution: Warren Moon going from undrafted to the Hall of Fame, Randall Cunningham being able to embrace his athletic style and Donovan McNabb on the 1999 draft class that saw three players drafted in top 10.

Professional Speak On Athletes Coming Into Money & How Much (Or Little) Their Leagues Look Out For Them [Video]

I went from a dorm room… a dorm room… to a million-dollar house, and did not understand it, but had to act like I knew what I was doing every day…

Real, REAL talk about money & wealth here; the comings and [unfortunately] goings of it. The NFL’s responsibility to make sure retirees aren’t broke? Interesting. Who wouldn’t be in favor of, at least, the idea of the athletes not being broke after years of playing a game that leaves their bodies broken.

Tommie Harris, Clinton Portis and Jack Brewer discuss the money they made in the NFL with financial expert Michael Bapis.
– The Players’ Tribune

And the revelations that come from this discussion… DEEP! Great clip.

TYT’s Francis Maxwell Speaks On The NFL’s Disgraceful Ban On Kneeling (Video)

… regardless, let’s just cut through the sh!te, shall we?

We got a whiff and posted on the NFL’s kneel ban days ago. Now NFL Commish Roger Goodell puts it all the way out there… No longer speculation, the ban is out there. Watch TYT’s Francis Maxwell speak on it, and make a helluva good point: The League is FULL of Black players whose interests are repped by this LAWFUL, PEACEFUL protest. Goodell and the NFL owner cadre are essentially telling them to bow down, by insisting that they either stand for the anthem or stay off the playing field until they learn to ‘act right’… or get hit in the pockets.

NFL Bans Kneeling. So Much For Free Speech, Right?

Sports/Politics: NFL Set To Penalize Players Who ‘Take A Knee’

Well, would you look at that? Not even claiming to be all that surprised or shocked that the NFL and owners found a way to appease the majority (White apathetic/unsympathetic Americans) AND get all those who #TakeAKnee with Kaep off the field.

So they have found a way to eliminate a peaceful, yet impactful, protest method (wow). What’s more, it looks like they have cleared the way for teams to ‘deal with’ players who choose not to stand during the National Anthem and presentation. To be clear: The option to stay/observe in the locker is a cop-out in the weakest way. It’s an ‘out of sight, out of mind’ attempt, plain and simple.

But this is NOT out of our minds. We can watch and be mindful of who is NOT on the field during the anthem and presentation of the flag (e.g. those who are still protesting unjust treatment of Black people by the authorities). And what about the core issue; the motivation that drove Colin Kaepernick to take a stand by taking a knee? Wonder if the NFL will call a special meeting, assemble a subcommittee, etc. to enact new policy that speaks to or acts against law enforcement’s abuses of power, brutality, and murder?

I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Taking The Knee: If Terry Crews Was Still In The League, He Would Kneel (Video)

Damn. The preview clip. Crews popped! Got a point though. Football, as we know it in The States, is pretty much just “American football”… The world doesn’t play it that way. We are ‘playing ourselves’ if we think the world gives a good van DAM about the Sunday games or whether we boycott them.

BUT… He does talk some real talk about what everyone in the WORLD would care about… human lives, liberty, love… or the lack thereof. The U.S. nor the NFL, really not loving Black people.

All that and more. Plus Terry with a great perspective on your worth as a HUMAN BEING.

People Have Been ‘Disrespecting The Flag’ For Decades (Video)

Hmm… So why are these actual Flag Code violations (read: instances of disrespect for the flag) okay, but ‘taking a knee’ is not? Fact is, kneeling is NOT a violation of flag code. So, what now? Talk to us, ‘Murica.

Trump said NFL players disrespected the flag by kneeling during the national anthem. As it turns out, “disrespecting” the flag is probably more common than you think.

Sports/Politics: Nick Wright’s Question For People Angered By The #TakeAKnee Movement: What Are You Actually Mad At? (Video)

I’m not gonna engage on the absurdity that we just ran a clip where a player quotes the President Of The United States, and we felt we needed to bleep it.
Nick Wright

Yeah. And this isn’t the first time the words of the POTUS have been ‘bleeped’… But let’s not engage in the folly for now.

Instead, let’s follow Nick’s lead. Let’s follow the line of reasoning, avoiding all the crazy and staying on that line… bypassing the false equivocations… walking past the baseless arguments of the Trumpeters and stepping over their misunderstandings, barreling through that wall protecting those who want to make ‘Murica great again, make football in ‘Murica great again, until we arrive at the heart of what those against the PEACEFUL #TakeAKnee movement are really against…

Because once we get to the end of that line of unreasonable, where folks in their feelings have nowhere to go and have to answer honestly about why they detest #TakeAKnee …”What Are You Actually Mad At?”

And before someone says it… we’re NOT going to ‘just stick to sports’ this time. I just want them to say the words.
