Food: Trigg Brown Offers This Taiwanese-American Spin On The Fried Chicken Sandwich (Video)

If it’s not bubbling, then… you f**ked up.

Ha! Got it. And I wanna get this. Because this looks DELICIOUS!!

Man, damn a ‘chicken sandwich challenge’… the contest is OVER! And Trigg Brown of Win Son, with this video, just WON, son!

Trigg Brown of Win Son, a Taiwanese-American restaurant in Brooklyn, NY, makes a big chicken bun in the Munchies Test Kitchen. Trigg starts with breaking down a whole chicken before marinating it in a mixture of ginger, garlic, scallions, Chinese five spice powder, and shio koji. Big pieces of chicken breast and thighs are then dredged in sweet potato starch, corn starch and rice flour, fried, and dusted with more Chinese five spice powder and cayenne pepper.

The result is a very crispy and slightly spicy piece of fried chicken that’s placed on top of a sweet bolo bao, topped with an herb salad, and drizzled with fermented tofu mayo. Trigg’s take on Taiwanese big chicken buns, which are typically sold in night markers around Taiwan, is the perfect combination of sweet, spicy, and savory.

When They See “When They See Us” People Will Really Understand The ‘Central Park Five’ Story (Trailer)

“When They See Us” was conceptualized and co-written by Ava DuVernay for Netflix and it is coming to take hearts and minds and twist them… to make us feel everything the falsely accused (and eventually exonerated) Central Park Five.

Just LOOK at who is attached. The exec producers (Oprah Winfrey, Robert De Niro) all the through to casting (Michael K. Williams, John Leguizamo, Felicity Huffman, Niecy Nash, Blair Underwood)… they will draw MILLIONS of viewers! We must learn. ALL of us.

Based on a true story that gripped the country, “When They See Us” will chronicle the notorious case of five teenagers of color, labeled the Central Park Five, who were convicted of a rape they did not commit. The four-part limited series will focus on the five teenagers from Harlem — Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, and Korey Wise. Beginning in the spring of 1989, when the teenagers were first questioned about the incident, the series will span 25 years, highlighting their exoneration in 2002 and the settlement reached with the city of New York in 2014.

“When They See Us” premieres May 31 only on Netflix.

Pee Wee Kirkland Left The Court To Become A Kingpin In The Drug Game (Video)

Surely you know something about the dual life lived by hood icon Pee Wee Kirkland. At least you’ve heard that rap line “Legend in two games [like] Pee Wee Kirkland.” Basketball was one game. VICE will give us the real deep scoop on Pee Wee’s second.

Richard “Pee Wee” Kirkland began playing basketball in the streets of Harlem when he was 9-years-old. By age 13, he split his time between playing ball and committing robberies to help finance a growing drug empire.

In college, Kirkland was the 1968 MVP for Norfolk State, turning down an offer from UCLA to play alongside Kareem Abdul Jabaar. Kirkland was then drafted by the Chicago Bulls but turned down their offer when he realized he could make more money in the drug game than the basketball game. With law enforcement on his tail, Kirkland found himself behind bars twice between 1971 and 1988. From there, he made a change, becoming a motivational speaker and inspiring young, inner-city athletes to take a different path out than he did.

If you are an intricate part of a top rated morning show that is syndicated all over the US. Someone would think that it was something you were a natural at. Food: This Vegan Restaurant Insists It Serves ‘Cheese’… Even If It Is Non-Dairy (Video)

Crazy how I keep coming across more and more vegan stuff that I would scarf down, like, IMMEDIATELY! Like this stuff… making me an ‘Eat Seeking’ missile over here!

Chef Isa Chandra Moskowitz wants people to rethink the language they use when it comes to vegan food. The owner of Modern Love in Brooklyn, New York, believes people need to say the word “cheese,” even if they are referring to the non-dairy-based alternative. This is apparent on her menu, offering dishes like the modern cheese plate, an assortment of various vegan cheeses that imitate the flavors and textures of dill Havarti and chevre.
– Thrillist

Cheese glorious cheese (remember that commercial?); even this vegan variety gets me singing. And I haven’t even tried it yet #BucketList #FillMyBucketWithThis

For The NYC Title, Brooklyn Tech’s Team Will Step In The Arena (Documentary)

If you cannot wrap your head around ‘step team’ as a sports/athletic activity, look at this and reconsider. Just saying. They go in as hard as any team on the court (or anywhere else).

You won’t find the most successful team at Brooklyn Technical High School on the basketball court or on the football field. You’ll find them stepping in the cafeteria – sweating, laughing and striving to keep their crown as NYC’s regional champions. In this VICE Sports exclusive, we met up with the all-female Lady Dragons step team to see their pressure-packed final days of preparation for NYC regionals.

Great story, regardless of what you ‘decide’ about the nature of the competition.

Fold, Eat, Repeat: Experience New York A Slice At A Time (Video)

Nothing like a New York slice! And we got ’em (and the stories behind ’em) in this episode of The Pizza Show.

New York is the birthplace of many things, but for today’s purposes, we’re sticking to pizza. Frank starts with a quick history lesson from Scott Wiener, the owner of Scott’s Pizza Tours. Then, we hit the streets to see and taste the history for ourselves. The best thing about the city’s pizza scene is that it’s relatively young, so you can still eat slices from the ovens of the people that started it all and put New York pizza on the map.

We meet the granddaughters of the man that literally brought pizza over from Naples, and even see the ovens that he used. Then, we hit all the best slices from Greenwich Village to Soho, and finish in Brooklyn at Luigi’s Pizza, a place untouched by time.

Ice Cube’s BIG3 Basketball League Is Coming To Barclays Center This Summer (Video)

Okay, this could be a score for FS1 on Monday nights. Loving the names of the teams for BIG3 Basketball at Barclays (after the jump). Now, if they can avoid the XFL trap of getting too gimmicky with a game folks love… just make exciting basketball… not reinventing the game, just eliminating the lame from that lane… we got something! Plus, handchecking and fairplay freethrows.

Watching Cube and Rappaport break it down in conversation might pique your curiosity to tune in June.

Classically Beautiful: The Discussion (Docu-Series)

Visuals for this “Classically Beautiful” series begins with the NYC discussion and continues after the jump, taking the discussion to New Jersey. Each discussion clip relates multiple perspectives from women who are learning to fully embrace who they are and what they represent.

To the core, this piece is a representation of how we manifest our truths and convictions, how we identify ourselves in the face of adversity, and the power of dialogue.
