New R&B: Range featuring Wale – ‘Beautiful You Are’

Philadelphia singer & songwriter ‘Range’ is the latest signee to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label. Now currently residing in Queens NY, the 24 year old artist has been behind the scenes writing songs for other artist for few years now. He’s also wrote the hook to Ludacris’s hit single ‘One More Drink’ that features T-Pain. I believe this is his first solo offering as an artist stepping out into the spotlight & it sounds pretty good. I don’t particularly think Wale was necessary on it, but its the music business & maybe they felt it would get more attention for a relatively new artist who’s been predominantly behind the scenes early in his career.

RANGE FEAT. WALE – BEAUTIFUL YOU ARE

Rico Love – ‘Wanna Hear You Say’

Yo this joint right here is tight…..I’m adding this to my R&B slow jam playlist in itunes. Rico Love is a talented cat especially considering he says he has no interest in being an artist yet he’s crafting joints like these.  Rico Love maintains that he wants to focus on building stars on his label Division 1.

“I was riding on an airplane on my way to New York and I thought, Damn, I really want the world to hear this stuff,” he tells Rap-Up.com. “So when I landed I made the decision that I was gonna release an 8-song LP called 42nd Street just for my fans and music lovers.” – Rico Love

Rewind: Sade x Naira x J Haze – ‘The Colour of Love’ (Album)

Sade is coming to Atlanta 7/12 & 7/13 with John Legend so it made us think about a dope project that sampled some of her best songs. Singer/songwriter Naira teamed with Atlanta producer J Haze to put together together this EP with features from Cy Marshall Law, Draft, and cuts from DJ Rasta Root. The joint dropped July 2010 so as you buy your tickets for the Sade show give this a listen.

New Video: Raheem DeVaughn – ‘Hopeless Romantic’ (Video)

Arguably the greatest soul singer of this generation according to Dr. Cornel West, Raheem DeVaughn, drops some new visuals to ‘Hopeless Romantic’ which appears on the D.C. soul singer’s ‘The Love & War MasterPeace’ project

Naira – ‘See Me, See Trouble’ Rmx

Check out this dope remix from singer/songwriter/rapper & Atlanta based-Nigeria born artist Naira.  Naira enlists a few of Atlanta’s best female emcees for this special remix by DJ Dub Floyd. This remix features Yani, The Dolldaze, Adrift Da Belle, & Boog Brown. Yeah this joint works! Niiiiice! I decided to take it back & include one of her R&B joints in this post as well…..

DJ Jamad – ‘Afromatic’ (Mixtape)

DJ Jamad just dropped this dope mixtape inspired by the upcoming Transformers: Dark Side Of The Moon movie dropping on July 1st. Dope song selection, mixing, & proper use of sound effects to draw a great audio picture.  Another beauty of this project is the right songs that reflect an proper audio soundscape relative to the Transformers, Robots, or just Artificial intelligence in general.  Overall the way it’s put together is flawless.  There are two parts to this mixtape so check out the tracklistings under the hood…. TRANNNNSSSSFOOOORRRRM!

CJ Hilton – ‘So Fresh’ feat. Nas

This new joint from Baltimore native CJ Hilton reminds me of those classic R&B/Hip Hop blend tapes I remember cats like DJ Juice (Trenton,NJ), DJ Ron G, & a few other DJs used to put together in the 90s. The song itself sounds like one of those R&B/Hip Hop mixes within the song itself & with Nas adding some bars you can’t go wrong at all with this banger! Niiiiiiice!

Heather Victoria – ‘Graffiti Diary’ (Mixtape Album)

The First lady of R&B on 9th Wonder’s IWWMG label, Heather Victoria, drops her free debut album/mixtape appropriately titled ‘Graffiti Diary. The North Carolina native teams up with several of her ‘North Kakalak’ brethren for this album which brings us back to that feeling of how dope hip hop beats with R&B vibes can mesh together.  I’m feeling this new movement coming out of N.C.  Click on the artwork or the link below to download the album. The full tracklisting is under the hood……

Studio Session Leak: Nonku Phiri – ‘We All Try’ (Frank Ocean Cover)

This is definitely unmastered, but I liked it so much I figured i’d post it. South African artist Nonku Phiri rocks over Slum Village’s classic ‘Climax’ instrumental & delivers a cover version of Frank Ocean’s stand out ‘We All Try’ from his dope ass album ‘Nostalgia, Ultra’. I like what Nonku Phiri did with this & hopefully she’ll come back with a mastered version but I can rock with this for now.

Big K.R.I.T. Performs ‘Players Ballad’ With Raheem DeVaughn In D.C. (Video)

This is one of my favorite songs from Big K.R.I.T.’s new ‘ReturnOf4eva’ album. I’ve been playing it for the last few weeks on the radio show too if y’all have been following. It was only right that if Big K.R.I.T. was in D.C. he’d bring out Raheem DeVaughn to join him onstage. I’ve been enjoying Raheem DeVaughn’s ‘Heemy Taught Me’ mixtape that just dropped too.  They need to drop a hot video for this joint because these two ‘playas’ are winning right now with this song……

Kaya – ‘Imperfections’ (EP)

Over the weekend I ran across this good song called ‘Why Don’t We’ from Toronto native Jessica Kaya. I believe she’s dropped her first name & is going by the name ‘Kaya’ from a professional standpoint from here on out. I didn’t know much about her, but upon my initial find of the song I had it on repeat multiple times.  Too many to give an accurate count. After searching further I found that the song was apart of a free EP that she released called ‘Imperfections’. The title is suitable as she claims to have released these joints as unfinished drafts &  incompleted works. Could have fooled me because these joints sound like ‘perfect imperfections’. Listen or download the project from the link below….

Jill Scott Private Listening Party For ‘Light Of The Sun’ (Video)

Jilly from Philly held a private listening session for her upcoming album ‘Light Of The Sun’ up in NYC recently…..Man I love Jill Scott as an artist! This video is dope!

Documentary: Stevie Wonder – ‘Hotter Than July’ 1980 (Video)

“This rare documentary was broadcasted for the first time in 1981 by the BBC.
It’s is about the 1980/1981 USA tour by Stevie Wonder looking at his musical insight and his preparation for a concert, and his appearance at a Washington Rally to celebrate the birthday of Martin Luther King.”

Frank Ocean – ‘Songs For Women’ (Video)

If you haven’t downloaded & listened to this man’s album ‘Nostalgia, Ultra’ then you are seriously sleeping! It’s my favorite R&B album that was released this year. This unofficial video doesn’t adequately or creatively reflect what I envisioned for the song, but I’m not mad at the eye candy.

Zo! & Phonte – ‘Return Of The Mack’ feat. Tigallo The Tay God

They never should have gave you nikkaz studio equipment! Hahaaa! This song is hilarious with all the ‘Swag Swag Swag Lil B type’ ad-libs going on, but on a serious level this smoothed out remake of the Mark Morrison original song ‘Return Of The Mack’ sounds pretty good. He when they seem like they are just playing with the music it still sounds good.

Skillz – ‘Enjoying The View’ (Video)

I remember after I first listened this song that just so happens to appear on Skillz most recent album ‘The World Needs More Skillz’, I just so happened to be speaking with a record label rep who worked for another company. We briefly discussed how the singer on the song’s vocals sort of stood out for this particular track. At the time there weren’t any visuals for this particular song so we were left in the dark until now. Skillz drops new visuals for this joint & we are now able to recognize said artist, but its still clear the name of the artist is that’s giving him the assist. Maybe Skillz was embarrassed by the over emphasized facial expressions the artist gave while shooting this video…..hahaa!
