J-Live – “Money Matters” (Video)
We don’t have to be slaves to money, but in the immortal words of Rakim….”Still don’t nothing move but the money.” Even so we ‘learn to earn because we’re righteous’ & the most righteous emcee himself J-Live reminds us that ‘Money Matters’ which his new self-directed video shot in Atlanta featuring a few cameos from writer & director Rahiem Shabazz & Atlien producer/emcee Yamin Semali. ‘Money Matters’, produced by Oddisee, is the first single from J-Live’s upcoming album entitled “Around The Sun” on his Mortier Music label.Â
Sean Price – “I Shot Tha” (Produced By Domingo)
“B!tches ain’t sh&t, and n!ggas ant neither. Damn. But what about the kids?”
To put out his latest – “I Shot Tha” – Sean Price rocks an oldie but goodie. Domingo refixing the EPMD “Strictly Business” beat (as it’s known to 90s Hip-Hop heads) which flips that Bob Marley classic “I Shot The Sheriff.†If you are wondering if it’s good, you haven’t been following P, especially as of late. ESPN First Take: Fabolous Speaks on Seattle rapper Macklemore’s 4 Grammy Award Wins (Video)
I didn’t bother to watch the 56th Annual Grammy Awards last night as I was more inclined to give the NFL’s newly revamped Pro Bowl a chance before I eventually fell asleep on it in the 3rd quarter. When I started my day this morning I saw angry people on social media who were upset about Seattle rapper Macklemore’s 4 Grammy wins last night. Although I was rooting for artists like Kendrick Lamar who create music that appeals more to me, I wasn’t mad or surprised Macklemore won a few Grammys. My youngest nieces loved his ‘Thrift Store’ song early on & I noticed that he appealed to more people independently of what was going on in rap music in general. When I watched ESPN First Take this morning, Brooklyn emcee Fabolous shared a similar sentiment when asked his opinion on Macklemore’s Grammy wins. I agree with Macklemore’s post Grammy statements in the media though…..Kendrick SHOULD have won the Grammy for ‘Best Rap Album’, but it is what it is. More video from Fabolous’s appearance on ESPN’s First Take after the jump….

R&B/Soul: Ben Official – “I’m Sorry” (Prod. By Authentik Made) [Video]
Ben Official with the visual for a classic lover’s lamentation entitled “I’m Sorry” (produced by Authentik Made). This mid-tempo melancholy melody is a what-I-wish-we-were profession of love, but ultimately declares he is better off… they are better off… apart. Mm mm mm. Sometimes it’s a good thing to be a little sad. We’ve all Ben there.

Moving The Race Conversation Forward (Video)
Ever watch the news, especially in mixed (race) company, and felt a different way than most gathered about a particular story… the chosen slant of the reporting, the ‘witnesses’ interviewed on scene, the ‘coming up next’ teasers. Did you get a hold of yourself – telling yourself it was nothing. Well, no, it was something. It was just something hard to explain. And now that we have friends from all backgrounds in our circles, it is something that is harder to talk about. That racial conversation we have been reluctant to have in our circles of friends and en masse; don’t worry, Race Forward is going to spark and spur on the conversation. Above is an introductory/companion video for a special paper on the subject.
Moving the Race Conversation Forward is a report by Race Forward: The Center for Racial Justice Innovation that aims to reshape and reform the way we talk about race and racism in our country. The paper includes content analysis of mainstream media (finding two-thirds of race-focused media coverage fails to consider systemic racism), analysis of seven harmful racial discourse practices, and case studies of successful interventions to counteract these trends.

Truez – “Sarcasm” (Prod. By Hennessy Music Group) [Video]
Augusta (Georgia) has put some significant marks on American music’s timeline. Remember James Brown? How about Pastor Troy? A solid argument can be made that both have influence in Hip-Hop history specifically. How about Truez? From Augusta (by way of Newark, New Jersey); heard of him yet? Well, whether you have or not, I got a little something in the inbox that compelled me to share it. Familiar enough to call Hip-Hop; but not so much so that it could be called the ‘same old, same old’… So, watch/listen above. Decide for yourself if Truez (The Realest U Ever Slept On) might warrant a tic on the Hip-Hop timeline. As for me, I have already decided: Hand me that marker…
