One of my favorite DJs in Atlanta & souful producer DJ Kemit continues to amaze me with his work. The homie just celebrated his birthday not too long ago with a big party here in Atlanta, but how did I miss this new joint called “Funky 8-Ball” featuring Frank McComb on the keys that he recently released? Apparently the track will serve as a teaser of what’s to come from his upcoming album “Everlasting” due July 17th. The title to Kemit’s upcoming album couldn’t be anymore appropriate because the brotha has been doing it all from touring, producing, & working with damn near every R&B artist with soul in some capacity for almost two decades. I’m gonna have to hit the homie up on his twitter to give him props for keeping the soul going….

Apollo Brown x O.C. – “The Biggest Loser”

Detroit producer Apollo Brown & Brooklyn emcee Omar Credle, better known to the world as O.C., dropped one of the best independent hip hop albums this year with “Trophies” in my opinion. I’ve been running a number of tracks from the album that’s now available on itunes through my radio show but their label Mellow Music Group just let loose this pretty dope gem called ‘The Biggest Loser’ that didn’t make the album probably due to some tricky legal issues with the Pat Benatar sample that’s used. I can’t wait to spin this joint on the Beatz & Lyrics Show as well this Saturday night….

MTV Shines Light On Pittsburgh’s Growing Hip Hop Scene (Video)

With the recent success of Wiz Khalifa & Mac Miller, Pittsburgh’s hip hop scene is continuing to flourish after years of being considered the younger brother to Philadelphia in terms of all things hip hop. But while both cities have never had any significant or competitive rivalries in the state of ‘Pistolvania’, they’ve often have had a distinct difference traditionally in terms of sound & influences. Pittsburgh’s sound can vary from a midwest vibe to a super lyrical east coast vibe in which it’s eastern neighbor Philly is typically known for. With the recent signing of rap artist Boaz to Rostrum records, MTV does a feature on Pittsburgh’s next generation of rising stars & the scene they grew up out of.

West Coast rap artist & 1/4 of the Black Hippy crew, Jay Rock releases this dope remake of the hip hop classic ‘Back In The Days’ made popular by fellow Cali rap artist Ahmad. Usually when artists do remakes of popular records it doesn’t always go over too well, but this new joint produced by Komplex delivers for anyone with a good ear for music. You don’t even have to be familiar with the original version to appreciate this joint right here but it’s always good to go back. This song will be a part of the upcoming free Treacherous Records compilation called “The Mint Room” due July 17th.

Besides having Big Sean & Wiz Khalifa on the track with him, ‘C Breezy’ manages to snag fellow ‘Mary Jane’ lovers Snoop Dogg, Method Man, & Redman to make cameos in the video. That’s wasup!
