If I had to give an award for Rookie of The Year it would most likely be handed to singer, songwriter, & producer Frank Ocean. His “Nostalgia/Ultra” album has had a high volume of repeat plays with me since it dropped. Even on my flight back from Cali last weekend I was still bumping it in my headphones at one point. As we start coming close to the 2nd year Anniversary of my R&B Radio show, I was finally ready to put out a series of mixes for my listeners. This is a thick slice of the variety of songs that I have actually MIXED on-air. For those who can’t stay up late, ‘Love Ultra’ is a Tuesday Night R&B, Soul, Urban show heard from 11:00pm to 1:00am and is syndicated in the streets of Gambia on Vibes FM 106.1. Rashad Thomas is a talented producer, singer, & songwriter from Ohio who people maybe familiar with his work with fellow Ohio rap artist & Maybach Music Group signee Stalley. Rashad produced Stalley’s critically acclaimed project “Lincoln Way Nights (Intelligent Trunk Music)” project. One of the homies I’ve known for several years by the name of Super Mario manages Rashad & Stalley & I was fortunate enough to get an advance copy of Rashad’s dope R&B album entitled “Museum” that’s dropping late December or January of 2012. Make sure y’all check for that when it drops because I’m still playing key songs off of that joint like “The Return”, “Headphones”, & the Jodeci inspired “I Wanna Love You” since I received a copy of the project. Not able to post any of those joints yet so y’all will have to wait. In this particular interview above Rashad speaks on his creative process & plans to be an all around force in the music game….

This is a pretty dope R&B joint from singer, songwriter, & producer Emanny who also brought along Yonkers finest Jadakiss to bless this joint as well. The Bronx singer better make sure he’s out here checkin’ identification on these young jawns or end up in an R. Kelly type of situation later in his career. Haha! Emmany has released a few joints that I’ve dug over the last few months. This track right here sounds a little similar to Trey vocally on this one, but Emmany has written songs for many other artists including Trey Songz so maybe he decided to keep this for himself. It’s still a dope joint though…

It wasn’t until I pressed play on this video that I realized it was her looking good rocking the blond wig. Niiiiiiceee. Robin Thicke is a lucky dude with a new baby, beautiful wife Paula who’s starring in the upcoming “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” movie with Tom Cruise, & a new soulful album dropping December 6th. R&B/Soul: Elle Varner – Refill

The beautiful songstress Elle Varner delivers another “Refill” of quality music since that dope “Only Wanna Give It To You” track she dropped a few months back. I’m aware that Elle Varner is a very diverse newcomer in terms of music & has the ability to flip into a variety of genres, but I have to admit I didn’t quite dig this joint as much as her debut single at first. The hillbilly type violins or fiddlin’ in it were a little distracting, but after a second listen later I began to dig it a little more. I guess that would almost explain the premise behind her upcoming debut album appropriately titled “Perfectly Imperfect”

“+FE Music proudly presents the “Shibuya Session EP”, a collaboration between Nicolay and the Raleigh-based exploratory jazz trio The Hot At Nights, led by 8-string guitar virtuoso (and The Foreign Exchange guitarist) Chris Boerner with Matt Douglas on sax/woodwinds and Nick Baglio on drums. The EP was recorded at Sound Pure Studios in Durham NC and features new interpretations and arrangements of eight instrumental compositions from Nicolay’s 2009 album “City Lights Vol. 2: Shibuya”.
