Bahamadia – “We Here”
OHHHH! Bad Magics blessed my inbox. If you are a 90s Hip-Hop head, the name Bahamadia ought to ring a bell. And her joint “We Here” will remind you why.
Recognize and respect when a genius is in your midst
Yet mindsets like that give them hostile intents
Offensive egos clash instead of blend
Can’t fathom women raising their standards to end the trend
Lyrics matter. And this is how you run a boom-bap track. Fakers fall back. Mama’s back!

ESPN’s ‘Stuart Scott’ Dies In His Battle With Cancer At 49 (Video)
Stuart Scott definitely changed the sports world. He was a voice for our generation. An original. Rest in Peace. Thank you #StuartScott
— Jay Force (@jayforce) January 4, 2015
I was in college when #StuartScott came on ESPN. It's crazy to think he was 1 of the reasons I eventually changed my major in college.
— Jay Force (@jayforce) January 4, 2015
So #StuartScott was one of the reasons I eventually went on to work in television news for 10 years

Eye Candy: Behind The Scenes With Tamra D (Video)
Warning: This Tamara D clip is so sexy it hurts!
You may not realize it, but there is a special type of “special” (as in “touched” in the head) we are about the ladies we display ’round noon ’round here. I don’t watch much of that ‘Chrisley’ show on USA, but his line “Class not azz” applies. We curate the video selection for as close to perfect balance between sexy and coy; that give-it-to-me-but-tease-me look and feel is what we go for. This Tamara D clip lives on that thin line. I yearn to find Honeyz like this.
Plus… She’s THICK, yo (you KNOW that’s what I like)!
Follow Tamara D on Instagram (or just anywhere, to be truthful… whew, the thirst… I admit mine).

Cornell University And Bill Adler To Create A Digital Hip-Hop Archive (Audio)
Aaliyah, Ace Hood, the Afros, Ali D, Arrested Development: In Bill Adler’s extensive collection of Hip-Hop history, some of the genre’s biggest names are arranged next to lesser mainstream artists.
Adler was the founding publicity director of Def Jam Records. One of his first assignments was getting pop music critics at daily newspapers to cover one of the label’s new artists, LL Cool J. He worked at Def Jam for six years, before going independent and later running a gallery devoted to Hip-Hop photography. From these ventures, he accrued a massive archive, which lived in a storage space in the basement of his building until he sold the collection to Cornell University last year. Soon it will also live online
Adler sent Cornell University 500 vinyl recordings, an impressive collection of books in several languages and roughly 100,000 newspaper and magazine articles about rap and Hip-Hop…

When a deejay really goes in, when they reeeaally leave the Earth and go to Planet Rock while bringing you the banging Hip-Hop blends… that’s when we say they ‘black out.’ In this case, maybe we should call going there “going LYTZOUT” (e.g. ‘lights out’)! Fashawn over Alchemist production. Blessed. And that EP “Fash-ionably Late” is even more so. This video for a cut from the project, “Waiting in Vain,†ought to convince you by the second run through (once for the visual; then again for the content).

Macklemore Speaks On Race, Injustice, Kendrick, Iggy And More (Video)
You’re here now. Like lots of blogs, trying to title these things in an eye-catching way AND have something posted worthwhile is a challenge to say the least.
“Silence is an action…”
– Macklemore
He said that. The epitome of pop White rap success said that. But trust he is NOT silent in this video. DEEP conversation on all that is promised in the title. But PLEASE do not play this to check for the names you saw. That’s for the search engines. Watch and listen for perspective and to gain insight. Respect Ebro and Macklemore for this engaging discussion.
Wale – “Miracle On U Street” (Prod. By Tone P x That Boy Good)
How’s this for some exclusivity in the midst of folks celebrating the Nativity… This go-go’d out jawn “Miracle On U Street” (produced by Tone P and That Boy Good) you will NOT hear on the upcoming Wale mixtape “Festivus” but you can hear it here.

ESPN 30-For-30: The U Part 2 (Video)
Produced in 2009 by ESPN for its “30 for 30” series, “The U” was a look at all that was good and bad about the rise of the University of Miami’s football program in the 1980s. But that wasn’t the end of the story. “The U Part 2” picks up where the original film left off, with the program trying to recover from the devastation left by NCAA sanctions and scandals that had some calling for the school to drop football. The Hurricanes rose from those ashes to win another national championship, only to face new controversies when a booster used a Ponzi scheme to win favor with the program.

Waka Flocka Flame – “5:56”
Flocka is from Queens? For everything Hip-Hop heads have said (or kindly ‘not said’) about Waka… it’s like the rapper went to emcee camp and attended all the classes and some electives! We posted on his “Fire Squad” submission. Now, dude is taking a run at some classic Hip-Hop beats (most from the Golden Era); and going in on them. We should celebrate when an emcee chooses the right path y’all. Anytime you find yourself getting as upset (as I do) at whack rappers scoring millions of views/downloads, stop yourself. Ask yourself, “Did I play a part in this?” Did I ‘show’ someone this whackness on YouTube (and add another listen to the count) or did I share a post like this; and celebrate steps in the right direction?
(It’s a whole lot more effective than hating on today’s “crappy music”… Remember how that worked out when your parents hated on YOUR music?)
Give Waka Flaka a listen on his “5:56” post on the SoundCloud. And go back and listen to his “Fire Squad” one more time.
