Troy Ave – ‘My Grind’ (Video)

Brooklyn rap artist Troy Ave has a few joints that I’m digging off of his “New York City: The Album” project that dropped late last year. One of the few negatives I had when it dropped was how similar he sounds to 50 Cent at times on a number of joints. Even the former G-Unit member Tony Yayo appears on a track from the album. Despite these comparisons one of the standout joints from Troy Ave’s project was this joint called “My Grind”. Recognizing the popularity of this particular song, Troy Ave arrives with some brand new visuals to breathe more life into his album & to lure in more fans outside of the New York City area. The grind don’t stop.

VICE: Exposing The ‘Backyard Exotics’ Trade (Video)

Insanity. Inhumanity. And we call them animals… but the folks involved should be in cages. What’s worse: A lot of these ‘backyard exotics’ dealers and buyers, in it for the money and/or novelty, have no idea how dangerous the trade and care of these wild animals can be.
A lot of these animals are incredibly friendly. But that doesn’t mean they’re safe. These animals will kill you because they like you. ‘Hi. Let’s play… Oh. You broke…”
VICE covers the story and goes undercover to give us an inside look at a business working the inhumane, dangerous, but lucrative, $19 billion wildlife trafficking industry.

CyHi The Prynce – “Mandela” (Video)

One of the most underrated emcees coming out of Atlanta in my opinion, CyHi The Prynce, delivers a visually interesting new video for “Mandela” off of his latest Black Histori Project mixtape. Kinda dope how he took the theme music from the classic 1986 film Shaka Zulu to put together this ‘Mandela’ joint. Although the theme music honored the former Zulu king, Nelson Mandela himself was from the Xhosa tribe in South Africa. No big deal with those minor details, but CyHi still repping that G.O.O.D. music…

The Black Roots Of Memorial Day

An enlightening read, “The Black Roots of Memorial Day,” relates a historical account with elements common to several U.S. regions’ claiming to be the early birthplace of the National Holiday commemorating America’s fallen soldiers. In addition to several print versions online, surfing YouTube on the topic, you will come across several videos that tell the origin story of Memorial day. Below, after the jump, is the segment produced by the History Channel.
It seems that all origin stories agree that a grassroots movement to decorate the graves of those who died fighting in the Civil War, Union and Confederate, in honor of them giving their lives for what they believed to be their country’s cause, eventually became Decoration Day…which eventually became Memorial Day. Also common to most accounts, holding that the Memorial Day is still more of a ‘Union’ observation, we find several southern states continue to celebrate Confederate Memorial Day.
Offered after the jump is more on “The Black Roots”… But in the end, what matters is what matters to you. Celebrate the holiday as you feel best. Now, you can do so knowing a bit more about the history behind it.

You might’ve liked the original, or the Jay Z remix; but you will love this … guaranteed! We get another posthumous Michael Jackson album (“Xscape”). Sure. But the Miami based production team Urban Noize was like, “Let’s take it back to Off The Wall MJ days” with a little help from the early 80’s Ray Parker Jr classic “A Woman Needs Love (Just Like You Do).” Â Â This tribute remix to Michael’s 2001 hit “You Rock My World” does just that.
