Tall Black Guy – “Make Life Better” (Night’s Over Egypt Re-Blap Up)
Detroit producer Tall Black Guy has consistently been killing it with his souful productions & bounce worthy remixes. This time around he takes The Jones Girls R&B classic “Nights Over Egypt” & chefs it up differently with his own production spices & serves the fans his very own ‘Night’s Over Egypt Re-Blap Up’ remix of sorts. Straight vibin’ to this fiyah right here. I’ve played this joint about 5 times in a row after initially hearing it. Dopeness…
Marley Marl Recreates The ‘Classic Recipe’ For MC Shan’s ‘The Bridge’ (Video)
In this episode of Classic Recipes, the legendary producer explains and demonstrates how he created the beat for MC Shan’s “The Bridge,” one of the most memorable beats in hip hop history. As always, along with the beat programming tips and composition/production techniques he also gives us the lowdown on where and when the music was originally created.
Marl recalls the moment he first met MC Shan and recorded “Marley Marl Scratch,” and also remembers when legendary rap radio personality Mr. Magic rejected a Boogie Down Productions record that was submitted for airplay on WBLS-FM, later resulting in the feud between the South Bronx crew and Marl’s Juice Crew.
“The Bridge” was originally created using the Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer and the Korg SDD-2000 Sampling Digital Delay. Marley Marl programmed the beat by triggering drum sounds (the kick and snare) from the TR-808 into the SDD-2000, giving the track a unique sound and feel.
In this video he recreates the beat using the Akai MPC Renaissance; instead of just sampling The Honey Drippers’ track “Impeach The President” intro drum beat, Marley completely reprogrammed the beat from the kick and snare right down to the “Ladies and gentlemen” voice intro. Along with adding some ghost notes, he reversed The Magic Disco Machine’s “Scratching'” record to create the stabs and gritty noises you hear at the beginning of “The Bridge.” – Dubspot

Kendrick Lamar Performs on ESPN’s SportsNation (Video)
I was watching ESPN’s SportsNation hosted by Marcellus “DatDude” Wiley and Charissa Thompson as it aired live yesterday & their guests were 49ers starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick & Kendrick Lamar for SportsNation’s Madden Cover Vote kickoff special. When Kendrick was first introduced the music started to cue up for hit popular song “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe” I chuckled because I knew there was no way in hell ESPN would allow him to get away with that so of course he did the self-edits & segued into “Girl Don’t Kill My Vibe”. Fortunately for Kendrick the audience didn’t sing the REAL chorus to the song which would have drove ESPN’s censors mad. Kendrick also performed his hit record ‘Poetic Justice’ for the SportsNation audience as well so check out both videos above & below….

AraabMUZIK – The Prince Is Coming (Video)
Every since he dropped it I’ve been working out to AraabMUZIK’s instrumental album “For Professional Use Only” being motivated only by the beats. One of my tracks on the project is ‘The Prince Is Coming’ which I mentioned in a previous post felt like I could have listened to this during my trip to Dubai. Upon first listen I knew the instrumental track had a strong cinematic feel so it was a surprise to me that AraabMUZIK decided to drop this brand new Tilla directed video for it. Great minds think alike….
“The storyline spans three different time periods, past, present, and future and follows the mysterious entity known as “8″ who transcends them all. During a live performance, Araab zones out and finds himself in the middle of an epic battle between good and evil, which only the music can free him.” – HHNM

“Some artists in the hip-hop genre are so confident in their natural talent, that they can do whatever they please on the mic. The Mighty Mos Def, I’m sorry, Yasiin Bey is one of those people. Being able to flex his acting chops, serve as a conduit for the spirit of Ali by way of Louis Vuitton and not miss a beat on the microphone, is an amazing feat by any standard. DJ Dub brings portions of his vast catalog to life mixing classics, b-sides and his infamous Dub mixes to create a listening experience that should not be missed. Consider Re:DEFinition as your official introduction to the artist known as Yasiin Bey.”

Marco Polo feat. Rakim – “What’s Wrong”
“What’s Wrong,†was initially produced and recorded for Rakim’s “Seventh Seal†(2009) LP, but due to clearance issues was nixed from the retail release of the project. It has since sat dormant until Rakim gave the track back to Marco and he decided to use it for his forthcoming free-LP “Newport Authority 2†as Marco states “I’ve recorded so much quality material over the last few years and I really want to share it all. It couldn’t all possibly fit on “Port Authority 2â€; hence “Newport Authority 2†came to be.â€
“Newport Authority 2†will feature appearances from Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Artifacts, Das Efx, Lil Fame (M.O.P.), Torae & Ruste Juxx all rocking over Marco’s production.
Yet, the project everyone should really be excited for is Marco’s “Port Authority 2†LP which will be released this spring on Soulspazm Records. “Port Authority 2†features appearances from Organized Konfusion (yes, a new Oragnized Konfusion track!!), Gangrene, Talib Kweli, DJ Premier, Masta Ace, Posdnuos (De La Soul), Kardinal Offishal, Styles P, Nature, Rah Digga, Slaine, Celph Titled, Ill Bill, Large Professor, Inspectah Deck, O.C. & many many more.
