Mos Def Retiring Name Next Year (Video)

Mos Def recently spoke on MTV2 about his decision to change his name officially to “Yasiin” next year. Dante Beze, known to the world as Mos Def, says he’ll officially retire that moniker to reflect his new direction in life. I understand one of my favorite hip hop artists is growing & wants to reflect where he is with his life, but I don’t think that’s a great idea to change his stage name now. Either way I support the brotha & just hope he continues to produce quality music…….

Freeway – “N*ggas In Africa” (Video)

To me it’s a fail for Kanye & Jay-Z to name one of their songs “Niggas In Paris” on their “Watch The Throne” album. The brothas could have come up with a more creative title than that in my opinion. Especially considering the song has the potential to become a global hit from two high profile artists. I wonder how they’ll eventually get around it when their handlers start pushing for radio airplay. Supposedly “Ye-Z” are even going to do a video for the song too but not before a gang of emcees drop freestyle videos for it first. One person I’m most certainly not mad at is North Philly’s finest “Philly Freezer” who didn’t waste not time getting on this track…(Freeway voice) “EARLY!” Freeway does the damn thing over the beat, but either I’m getting old or something but I just want to cringe at that title. Sheehz!

Native Instruments has finally joined the ranks of every other company who has made a successful music production piece with the creation of the Maschine Mikro. When companies come up with a successful production center they follow up that release with a more affordable, inferior scaled back version of the successful piece. Like Akai with the MPCs 500 and 1000 this joint is smaller and has many of the same capabilities. Time will tell how this joint will fair in the market place tough.
