Ice Cube Talks About The Surviving Members Of NWA Reuniting For Coachella, Working With Prince And More

More dope content after the jump, but lookit… if you were at Coachella to see the NWA reunion… all heads who were not in the audience are insanely jealous (know that), including Ice Cube. Haaa! Cube takes us there in his chit-chat with talk show host James Corden; and he speaks on having the good fortune to have directed a Prince video back in the day.

Ice Cube Hints At A Coming NWA Reunion (Video)

Ice Cube foreshadowing this year’s Coachella concert supreme Hip-Hop moment…maybe? Look, Cube wants that NWA reunion. And if anybody could make it happen (with a phone call to Dr. Dre), it’s the man O’shea.

I’ve got some tricks up my sleeves… I’m gonna try to bring the members of NWA together…give everybody a little history lesson on Ice Cube and NWA, Westside connection, everything I’ve been doing over the years. We have some great visuals….same night Guns & Roses get back together…It’s gonna be a great night!
Ice Cube

Now, before you cynics file this in the never-gonna-happen box… he threw a Westside Connection (his other steady crew) mention in there. Something (e.g. some kind of reunion) is happening in April. Bet that.

Dee Barnes Speaks On Being Assaulted By Dr. Dre Back In The Day & Her Place In Hip Hop History (Video)

Kevin Powell interviews Hip-Hop journalist Dee Barnes for HuffPost. That’s right, the story of the woman Dr. Dre attacked back in the day… the story that was missing from the N.W.A. biopic (“Straight Outta Compton”). Many heads have called the omission of this dark moment from the historic Hip-Hop story’s retelling foul. Well, watch and get Dee’s point of view.

Note: This interview is not all about the Dre assault incident. Kevin is allowing Dee to have her say, and then the story comes out. Watch. Very deep. There are still unhealed wounds to this day.

Ice Cube x O’Shea Jackson Jr.: Father And Son Talk About Son Playing His Father On Screen (Video)

Cube couldn’t see ANYONE other than his son, O’Shea Jackson, Jr., play him in the new N.W.A. biopic, “Straight Outta Compton.” And Jr. came to realize that if he didn’t, he was risking another actor messing up his father’s story on the big screen. Locked! In this Back-And-Forth discussion, father and son Cube discuss how their emotions really came to bear in the movie-making process and more. Great watch!

(See how at the end Jr. is hinting at taking on other roles already? Yeah, he’s got the bug!)

While performing in Sydney Australia, Ice Cube gave N.W.A. fans a special surprise by debuting the trailer to the upcoming F. Gary Gray directed film ‘Straight Outta Compton’ based on the true story of Ice Cube’s legendary group N.W.A. to the crowd.  It appears someone had their camera phone ready & recorded the moment with fairly decent quality. Check it out right here. I’m hyped for when the movie drops in 2015.

DJ Yella (of N.W.A.) Speaks on the Group’s Breakup, the Making Of The Upcoming Movie, & his Current Relationship with Former Members (Video)

One of two DJs (with Dr. Dre) for the seminal gangsta group NWA, DJ Yella, interviews with Montreality and answers the typical questions in the typical way… But there is some very interesting content that comes as a result: Like Yella directing nearly 300 porn films and how that banger “Fcuk Tha Police” almost didn’t make the album. He also speaks on the NWA break-up and the coming NWA movie. And he’s actually listened to joints from the neveryet-to-be-released “Detox” from Dr. Dre.

N.W.A. Nominated For The 2013 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

It’s so crazy how two of my favorite groups of all-time have both been nominated for the 2013 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. We saw the announcement from DJ Lord & Flavor Flav about their group Public Enemy’s nomination, but upon closer inspection we also see the guys who put Compton on the map get nominations. Ice Cube, Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, MC Ren, & DJ Yella as N.W.A. get the nods as well & the timing couldn’t be anymore perfect as there is already a biographical film that’s currently in production directed by F. Gary Gray to tell their story. Dope!

‘Inductees will be determined by the hall’s voting body of roughly 600 artists, historians and music industry professionals. An artist or band becomes eligible for a nomination 25 years after releasing a debut single or album. This year’s nominees released their first recordings no later than 1987.’
