Open Discussion: Blog Rappers Vs. Street Rappers
This is part of a series that Sirius XM’s Dee Vasquez is doing as an open discussion about the balance artists need to have between the blogs & being visible in the streets to get notoriety. Depending on what type of artist you are & where you would like to go with your career as a recording artist I believe hitting the streets as well as the blogs are equally as important in this new media age. Nowadays people do so much online from paying their bills, social networking, & just about anything else you can imagine. The days of rapping & handing out CDs on a corner aren’t as effective as reaching a worldwide audience via the net. So my point is why wouldn’t blogs, radio, & the street all be important in this new era. Every avenue can help an artist win on its own these days.

Buju Banton Found Guilty On Federal Cocaine Charges In Florida
Buju Banton was found guilty of cocaine charges yesterday in a Tampa courtroom. Â Like sunshine & rain the popular reggae star had just won a Grammy award a little over a week ago for his ‘Behind The Dawn’ album, but the bad news came down yesterday with him facing 15 years to life imprisonment. Â A 12 member jury found him guilty on 3 counts including conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute. Â This will be a huge blow to the reggae music community because just like hip hop has been at a serious crossroads as an artform so has reggae & dancehall. Â Buju, who’s real name is Mark Anthony Myrie, expressed in court proceedings that he was setup by a man who turned out to be a government informant he met on a plane by the name of Alexander Johnson. Â According to reports the informant allegedly netted $50,000 for helping lure Buju into federal custody & has made over $3 Million dollars as a paid informant for over 14 years. Â What possibly sealed Buju’s conviction was they had him on videotape tasting the cocaine in a warehouse. Â Overall its a very unfortunate situation not only for Buju, but for his 15 children, extended family members, fans, & supporters. Read the full associated press report HERE.

Interview: Dame Dash Talks About His Latest Projects & Building New Brands (Video)
While going through hundreds of emails from artists with music & videos I just ran across this video I received in my inbox from Corey Davis the director of the new film ‘J Is For Junkie’. If you happen to be in Atlanta you need to go see a screening of the film that Fadia Kader is orchestrating at Midtown Cinema on Friday February 25th. I’m late in posting this video but check out what happens when Corey Davis catches up with Dame Dash. Dame Dash talks about building brands & the projects he has moving through the pipeline.
Snoop Dogg – ‘Gangbang Rookie’ feat. Pilot (prod by Jake One) (Video)
Definite banger! Been playing this on the radio show but didn’t know a video dropped for this joint! Snoop Dogg sounds dope over this Jake One produced banger. “I don’t represent the Republican party or the Democratic party….I represent the Gangsta Party”. Larry King’s repeat of “GANGSTA PARTY!” made me chuckle a few times….

New Music: Kida – ‘Watch Me’ (prod by Focus…)

Big up to the West Coast homie ‘Kida’……this is the latest joint he’s letting loose produced by the big homie “Focus…”. The song is an appetizer before Kida’s upcoming project the “Redshirt Freshman” that drops in a few months. Posted another banger featuring Chaundon called ‘Git It’ & make sure you check out his first video from the upcoming album for a song called ‘iGo’ under the hood……

Carmelo Anthony Appears On The ‘Conan O’Brien’ Show Hours Before Trade Announced (Video)
Just a few hours before the trade to the New York Knicks was announced Carmelo Anthony appeared on the Conan O’Brien show. The problem for late night talk show hosts like Conan is their shows are usually taped & aired later in the evening. Rumors of Carmelo being traded to the Knicks began immediately after they taped the show only to be confirmed before this show aired.
CyHi Da Prynce Speaks On The XXL Magazine 2011 Freshmen Cover (Video)
If the behind the scenes politics are right (you know there’s alot of music industry politics that go on), I believe that CyHi Da Prynce is very capable of becoming a very big artist in the hip hop game. The talent is there but all the rest is management, positioning, & great timing.
XXL Magazine’s 2011 Freshman Cover

The majority of the guys on this cover I’ve played on my radio show at some point or another so I’m not entirely mad at the cover. Except for Diggy Simmon’s head placement. Pause. Kendrick Lamar, CyHi Da Prynce, Mac Miller, Meek Mill, Yelawolf, Big K.R.I.T., & Diggy Simmons have all seen airplay on my radio show because I’ve genuinely liked the music they put out. It appears the staff at XXL Magazine tried to showcase a new artist with buzz from every region & every particular style lane. Artists & fans upset about XXL magazine’s choices can take solace in the fact that being on XXL’s cover doesn’t automatically guarantee success for any relatively new artist. New artists that didn’t make the cover shouldn’t worry because being on the cover puts a huge amount of undue pressure on you to succeed. If you happen to be a new artist on the come up I’d just say stay focused on your craft. It’s a marathon & not a sprint in the music industry. Longevity baby….
Nas – ‘Top Down’ feat. Swizz Beatz

I’ve was playing this song on the radio show maybe a year or two ago but apparently this is the final mixed & mastered version with an extra verse from Nas that Swizz Beatz let loose. I’m assuming because Nas didn’t used it Swizz Beatz decided to use the song for his solo album he dropped a few years back. Anyway enjoy the full mastered version with all of Nas’s vocals…..
EPMD Performing Live In London (Video)
Looks like EPMD are back like they never left. Erick Sermon, Parrish Smith, & DJ Scratch rocked the UK crowd a few days ago. Maybe they should change their name to ‘EPME’…… ‘Erick & Parish Making Euros’ or ‘Erick & Parish Making Pounds’
