Rihanna’s Barbados 2013 Tourism Campaign (Video)

I’ve been to Barbados twice & it’s definitely a beautiful country. I’ve been there for the Barbados Jazz Festival & even served as a reporter & live broadcasted my radio show, The Beatz & Lyrics Show, from the festival.
Great place to take your lady, but for a while the eastern most Caribbean Island may have been still a best kept secret for some. Barbados relies heavily on the tourism industry as its primary engines driving the economy probably more than many other countries located in the Caribbean. It’s a no brainer to have Barbados’ most famous daughter, Rihanna, to help promote the Bajan culture in this new tourism campaign.

But…Try as I might, I can find nothing to hate on these two about. Terrance J is right, and I agree. I love these guys love. So, here’s to hoping for a healthy, sure-to-be-artistic-and-eclectic baby for the happy couple.

For the Vice channel, ‘Fresh Off The Boat With Eddie Huang’ takes us to Eddie’s stomping grounds in Taiwan. Barely on the map; definitely off the chain… Just peep the trailer above. After the jump, Eddie shows us a different world starting with Part 1 – local ‘party favors’ (like an amphetamine called a ‘betel nut’), regional delicacies and erotica, night activities, and more. Part 2 continues the tour, with Eddie heading south to partake of the partying on the beach and some surf culture.

Ride To The Death (Trailer )

Cats in my hometown of Philly been riding these bikes around the city & throughout the neighborhoods for years. Interesting to see Meek Mill just tweeted about this new documentary on the Philly bike scene entitled “Ride to the Death.”
‘“Ride to the Death” is and introspective look into the street bike culture. Contrast to the stunts, dirt tracks, and the celebrity of American Motocross, and allows you to dive beneath the layers of the urban inner city bike culture. This particular tale takes you to the City of Brotherly love Philadelphia, PA. Original Series coming soon. Produced by M-Vision Films Directed by Lamar McPherson.’
In a strange twist of irony, the documentary is called “Ride To The Death” when in fact one of the bike riders featured in the documentary is actually “Deaf”. No pun intended.

Technology: Surviving the End of the World & How The Nerds Are Working On The Blueprints

Huts, tents, and lean-toes… hand-made tools and Mad Max style construction and farming equipment… and canned goods and toiletries from Wal-Mart? Seeing this outside a Missouri town, you’d be thinking one of three things:
- What the f##k??
- No really, WHAT THE F##K??!!
- Hmmm… something here is… off. Dialing Homeland Security RIGHT NOW!
But hold the phone…
So, Marcin and his people are up to good, not ‘no good.’ In a way though, this looks like what it is, a bunch of folks who have gone ‘off the grid.’ But do not make the mistake of following that thinking with thoughts of cult combine, domestic terrorist encampment, very creative homeless shelter… Rather, many of the world’s brightest have joined Marcin – for short visits or the long haul – to learn by doing and teach. What do they want to learn (and teach)? How to survive and re-build ‘off the grid.’ Moreover, the applications (beyond a real post-apocalypse) could prove very useful to people today. Marcin and his folks look to create a DVD (called a ‘Civilization Starter Kit’) that will document how individuals could make tools and equipment like tractors and a brick press from scratch for comparatively little or no cost in today’s world. In a post-apocalyptic world, cost would not matter… because money would not matter, right?
A word about basic needs on the current Factor e Farm: What about FOOD? Well, they are working on that (but it’s mostly store-bought for now). Clothing? Folks apparently wore what they had. Shelter? If you build it, you can sleep in it. And air-conditioning? Well, it was hot as f##k (hey, going shirtless means less wear on clothes); according to Businessweek reporter Ashlee Vance. Maybe they’ll eventually get fans. According to Ms. Vance, they’ll need something, as the place had it’s own… smell.
