Producer Talk: RZA and the Roland MV8000

This machine isnt wildly popular but its as good as any other sampler on the market. Roland has since discontinued the production of the piece but there are still plenty of MV8000 and 8800 out there for sale. I have used one plenty of times with my production patna’ AJ. Very dope machine. Listen to RZA talk about his experience with this machine and other Roland products.

The Story Behind Diamond D’s Outkast Remix

Diamond D sat down with Complex to talk about the stories behind some of his most notable tracks. I found the Outkast remix to be of particular interest because I always felt that remix came out of left field and always wondered how and why it came to be. Diamond D had this to say about the remix:
“There was a mixed reaction [in New York to Outkast when they first came out], like any new artist. But I do know that the remix I did kind of helped break them in the New York market. Big Boi at one point was like, ‘Big Diamond’s remix helped us get a little footing up in New York.’

RZA Talks Sampling Vs Traditional Recording

Get More: MTV Shows

Some musicians really feel that sampling doesn’t make you a musician and that could be true in some situations but because there are no set ways of how to sample the process is different for each producer. Some producers’ process is the same as any musicians; playing notes chopped from a sample and others may be likened to a DJ the way they match beats per minute of break beats and loops. Kudos to RZA for taking what was meant to be an insult and turning it into a moment for self improvement.

Black Milk x Jack White – ‘Brain’/’Royal Mega’

Motor city representatives Jack White of The White Stripes and Black Milk have teamed up to drop a 7′ of rock, funk, and hip hop fusion to be released as the first project from Jack White’s Third Man Records.
Black Milk says this of the collab on his website:

My first reaction was one of shock that an artist like him, who most people would categorize as a rock star, would want to work with an independent hip-hop artist. My second reaction was surprise that he even knew I existed, even though we’re from the same city. Of course, my response was “Hell yeah! When and where do I need to be to make this happen?” A few back and forth emails led to my band (keyboardist AB; drummer Daru Jones; and bassist Malik Hunter) and I taking a trip to Nashville to record at Jack’s home studio.

You can cop the songs from iTunes and the vinyl Here

Freddie Joachim – ‘Waves’

Now this is just what I needed right now. Some dope jazzy soulful instrumental vibes with no emcee talking all over the track. This is just some great new cool out music right here from the Cali based DJ & producer Freddie Joachim (pronounced JO-AH-KIM).  These tracks makes me feel like taking a flight to back to Brazil or something. Makes me want fly out to Costa Rica, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, or Puerto Rico & hit the ‘Waves’. I’m gonna need to go back & load Freddie’s entire instrumental catalog into my itunes. For now we’re just gonna have this baby on repeat. But don’t thank me….Thank Freddie on twitter.

Ski Beatz Making a Throw Away Beat (Video)

Ski Beats takes us from the record shop back to the lab and flips up a few dope beats that he doesn’t keep. When it comes to flipping samples producers usually try a few different ways to run the samples. There are a lot of dope flips that they just don’t use. Ski doesn’t really feel the last flip but he keeps it anyway cause he knows somebody may like it and choose it to rhyme on. This is the same process a lot of producers go through when they are making beats.

Behind the Beats: Dj Roddy Rod

DJ Roddy Rod is a dope producer/MC repping the DMV. He talks about how he began making beats and makes a dope beat during the interview.

Richelle L. Brown aka Cornbread – ‘Shine’ (Video)

Dope joint I ran across from ATLien soul singer/songwriter/producer Richelle L. Brown aka Cornbread. I never heard of her before until about a month ago when I overheard someone mention her name and speak about how ill a performance of hers was they just seen . I got a chance to witness recently at a local show which turned out to be extremely dope. From there I was hooked and decided I need to dig into her catalogue and get hip to more of her stuff. With only an EP out titled “The Example Project”,her music is very eclectic without being too “out there”, but also creative enough not to sound like your everyday ordinary sh@t. Another talented piece in the Atlanta music scene jumbo pot.Hopefully we can here more from this sista soon. Peep and Enjoy!
