J-Live – “Headband” (Freestyle)

artworks-000058001635-fxvtu8-t500x500

‘To reach the top they stoop so low…’ – J-Live

J-Live does some freestyle work on the B.O.B. track “Headband.” J-Live ain’t mad, he’s just calling out the fake… and the folks that allow fakeness to continue. Shots! Emcees get your bars tight. Turns out there’s some more fire spit over tracks… other than response after response to Kendrick’s “Control” verse. Y’all know that’s squashed, right (see the Arsenio HallKendrick Lamar interview here)? Anyway, check out J-Live going in on one.

Cassidy – “Catch A Body” (Meek Mill Diss)

Cassidy - JAYFORCE.COMThought it was over with Cassidy’s “Robert Ass Is Dead” diss track. Nah. Since Meek Mill (aka Robert) did not lay down after the spray down – catch Cassidy jumped off the everybody-respond-to-Kendrick’sControl-verse (after dropping his “Picasso Baby” freestyle) to get back at Meek for getting back at him (with that “Kendrick You Next” track you can stream after the jump). I don’t know if this will ever stop. There’s no money in this beef for real. This is pride. This is Hip-Hop! Check out Cassidy’s ‘2nd round knockout’ punch over the classic  Canibus battle beat he calls “Catch A Body.”

Soul Brother #1. Pete Rock. Camp Lo. Geechi Suede. Sonny Cheeba. Heather B hosting the visiting team… and they perform “Clean Getaway” LIVE y’all. This is one of many from their FREE “80 Blocks From Tiffany’s Pt II” mixtape download. There’s some good talk on there, too. Beef rumor right from the start into respect talk (for Large Pro, DMC of Run-DMC, Kendrick Lamar for his “Control” verse)… then the performance… then after the performance, you get Pete Rock’s top 3 producers (BONUS)!

They were on Sirius with Tony Touch pushing the latest “80 Blocks” earlier… and we posted that (earlier). They dropped verbal jewels then, too!

Diamond D and AG Talk Hip-Hop Then And Now With ‘Sway In The Morning’ (Video)

If there’s anyone (or two) who can comment on the Kendrick “Control” verse, comments on it and responses to it, and the state of Hip-Hop in general… It’s Diamond D and AG! Respect to Sway In The Morning for providing the platform for these Golden Era heavyweights to speak. Watch and reminisce as the two mainly talk Hip-Hop history and what they have cooking on the front burner now.

Joey Bada$$ – “Killuminati” Pt. 2 (Prod. By Knxwledge)

artworks-000056227889-u9uemh-t500x500

Response from Joey Bada$$ with a simple dedication: “4 brklyn.” Joey standing up for the homeland. Not just gonna let the “Swimming Pool” rapper (e.g. Kendrick Lamar) take “Control” of his block, let alone the Beast Coast. Check out Joey Bada$$’s “Killuminati” Pt. 2 (produced by Knxwledge).

Big Sean Has the Situation With Kendrick Lamar Under ‘Control’ (Video)

To be clear, Big Sean declares he is NOT a ‘hoe azz n!gga’ and that he and Kendrick are cool.

“That’s my dude… He called me… it’s cool that Hip-Hop can do that without it getting all violent… I loved my verse… I think Kendrick was going in, and I think Jay Elect was going in.”

Whether it started as a calculated maneuver, or Big Sean is taking “Control” of the situation that has come about, he could come out of this whole thing looking like the genius who orchestrated the return of legit verses and lyrical battles to modern Hip-Hop.

(Respect to the homie Big Dee on ATL’s The Remix Hip-Hop Show who I first heard on-air with this Big-Sean-Is-A-Genius perspective.)

Snoop Dogg Provides His Insight on Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Control’ Verse & Comparisons To ’95 Source Awards (Video)

ThisIs50’s Young Jack Thriller caught up with Uncle Snoop while he was in New York & asked him his opinion on Kendrick Lamar’s controversial ‘Control’ verse & to draw any comparisons to his experience during the 1995 Source Awards which allegedly feuled more of the so-called East Coast/West Coast beefs almost 20 years ago. As usual Snoop always keeps it ‘G’ & just like Maino I have to agree with many of things that he said in this interview as well.

Cassidy – “Picasso Baby” (Freestyle)

And [he] don’t stop! Cassidy went in over ANOTHER track - “Picasso Baby.” More flame thrown over Kendrick Lamar’s way in response to his verse on Big Sean’s “Control” joint. A freestyle work of art, a “Picasso Baby.”

Nas Talks Hip-Hop’s Presence In Fashion & Culture and Gives His Response To Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Control’ Verse (Video)

Check out Nas’ response to Kendrick Lamar…

‘My response is “Wow, I love Hip-Hop right now.’

Miss Info, as an adept interviewer, tries to pull more from Nasir on the current “Control” verse controversy. But Nas is appropriately terse. Answers on that topic, and Hip-Hop’s influence and place in fashion and culture, were pointed and polite. You get the feeling that, toward the end of the clip, Nas is more ready to party than to answer more questions. Let’s go, Miss Info!

Jadakiss Speaks On Kendrick Lamar & How Battling Is Good For Hip Hop (Video)

“Following suit ain’t always good… When you build a fan base in this game, they like you for what thy like you for. They don’t want me to be Kendrick or do what Kendrick do; and they don’t want Kendrick to do what they like ‘Kiss for…”

Jadakiss

Jadakiss with jewels for the masses in his interview with DRIVEN on the STASHED TV channel. Jada’s seen a battle or two, so he can speak with authority on how a battle can be good (actually “therapeutic”) for Hip-Hop as long as it stays lyrical. Wow. Another timely piece from another Don from the Golden Era of Hip-Hop. Probably recorded before the Kendrick “Control” dropped; but truth is truth. Check out more video from this interview below….

Bumpy Knuckles x DJ Wayne Ski – “New York, Where You At?!?”

artworks-000055489109-1ymp51-t500x500

“Nine million rappers sharing one or two rhyme styles. Kill them n!ggas off. Triggas pulling off!”

Bumpy Knuckles

Timely. Probably not recorded with anything to do with Kendrick’s “Control” verse or any of the freestyles; but what Bumpy Knuckles would say is likely summed up in this “New York, Where You At?!?” Then again, Bumpy Knucks never needed another record to spark fire on his own records. More proof of that here: Bumpy and DJ Wayne Ski with a FREE download to keep us interested in the “Black Card” album’s ever pushed release. Check it out.

Joe Budden – “Lost Control” (Freestyle) [Kendrick Response]

joe-budden-controlWe’re not going to post every ‘Control Freestyle’ response to Kendrick Lamar’s seismic verse but the one’s most people are looking forward to hearing or those that were simply outstanding like Papoose, Cassidy, & Joel Ortiz’s responses.  Even Uncle Murda’s & Atlanta emcee Yamin Semali’s responses were interesting. Joe Budden didn’t deliver a scathing diss to Kendrick Lamar with his new response but he represented the best way he could by showing that he does have bars.  As fans of hip hop music that’s all that we can really ask of all these emcees.

Papoose – “Control” (Freestyle)

11117_papoose

Papoose comes into the fray with a worthwhile response to Kendrick Lamar’s verse on Big Sean’s “Control.” Pap doesn’t stop at Kendrick either… Lamar’s TDE fam, Big Sean, Kanye West, Drake… everybody can get it. Check out his “Control” freestyle here.

Yamin Semali – “Uncle Ruckus Simmons” (Russell Simmons Diss)

YaminSemali -Jayforce.comWhile most rappers are making response records to Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Control’ verse, Atlanta’s own Yamin Semali went in another direction by clearly placing Russell Simmons in his crosshairs for that ill advised, ill-timed, & unfunny ‘Harriet Tubman Sex Tape’ comedy skit that he initially endorsed. The former Def Jam head has subsequently apologized for the video, but Yamin Semali isn’t letting it slide. As timing would have it all the chatter in Hip Hop last few days has been about stepping up has been in regard to Kendrick Lamar’s verse on Big Sean’s “Control,” but very few are going to go in on Uncle Rush’s bad move & those in hip hop misrepresenting it. Wonder how much will said about THIS ‘Control’ verse because it’s probably the most powerful.

Listen (FREE download and lyrics available at link below) and form your own opinions. Yamin made his plain on the track.

Cassidy – “Control” (Freestyle)

cassidy-2Out of all the so-called “Control” responses to Kendrick Lamar, I felt Cassidy had the best one by far. I also enjoyed Joell Ortiz’s version, too. At the last minute as we were about to hit enter on this post a new ‘Control’ freestyle just came in from ‘Mr. Alphabetical Slaughter’ himself, Papoose. Even Papoose surprised me with his response aimed at K Dot. Yes. Papoose went in too.

9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate Kendrick’s “Control” Verse (Video)

Wooo! 9th Wonder said Kendrick Hall-of-Famed’ them in his verse on Big Sean’s joint we posted, “Control.” Later in their discourse, Young Guru declared that the rhyme will make emcees go to their people and ask, ‘Is this tight enough?’ BEFORE putting rhymes out …like they should always be doing anyway! Watch the clip above. Engaging conversation between two of today’s Hip-Hop heavyweights.

When answering the question, ‘How historical is an emcee’s verse?’ …the way to answer is plain and simple: Who does it get talking?

9th Wonder and Young Guru speaking on it… Score for Kendrick Lamar!

‘…came at y’all n!ggas on the sh!t that y’all complaining hasn’t been in the game… This is LYRICS! What he shot at you was LYRICS!’
