Big K.R.I.T. – “Multi Til The Sun Die” (Video)

Soulful celebration on a track. Steve-Ography’s direction brings that through for visuals for “Multi Til The Sun Die” from Big K.R.I.T. Lyrics on the struggle and come-up while beautiful black and white footage shows K.R.I.T. paling around with some Hip-Hop heavyweights… stage diving… all in the midst of doing what he does.

‘History remembers kings.’

Enjoy the last track off the “King Remembered In Time” mixtape. We posted that on here earlier.

K.L.U.B. Monsta – “Cypher Dream” (Prod. By Skip) [Video]

“Cypher Dream” is the first plate K.L.U.B. Monsta (emcee collective comprised of Kel Ricks, Joshua, J. Dotta, and Air Talley) wants you to take from table off the forthcoming project entitled “Canvas.” Been a minute since we’ve heard from the folks over there in Steel City (Birmingham, AL, USA). Glad to see they are still pushing. Haunting airy track from Skip for Closet Ent. Lil Mase for VNN Cinematography grabbed the reins for the video delivery. Good work.

‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom’ Starring Idris Elba (Long Trailer)

We posted the UK trailer for the coming ‘Mandela’ movie earlier on here. Needless to say it was an incredibly short teaser of what’s to come. The film currently slated to be released November 29th seeks to chronicle Mandela’s life from his childhood in a rural village to his eventually ascent as the first democratically elected President of South Africa. Early rumors about the screenplay have the focus of the film to be on on Mandela’s younger days in South Africa. Nelson Mandela recently turned 95 after suffering a few life threatening health related issues so hopefully he will be with us when the world celebrates as the film hits theaters. Of course we posted the short version earlier, but now take a peek at the official ‘Long Version’ of the movie trailer.

The ESPYS: Comedian Jay Pharaoh As ‘Jay-Z The Sports Agent’ (Video)

If you missed the ESPY awards two nights ago then you probably missed this hilarious skit by comedian Jay Pharoah as he impersonates Jay Z ‘The Sports Agent’. Many people are not happy with the idea of Jay Z becoming a sports agent like rival agent Scott Boras with whom Jay Z took a shot at in a song on his new album. Those individuals wary about Jay Z entering into the sports world representing athletes may love this skit because it addresses the elephant in the room about people’s feelings on Jay Z guiding these athlete’s careers.  Even Master P spoke with some caution when he recently elaborated on Jay Z’s move into the sports management business & how he may need to be fully prepared.  Many of those unspoken issues were unveiled in this comedic skit by comedian Jay Pharoah at the ESPY awards that found some in the audience, who may or may not be doing business with Jay Z, not laughing at. In fact, even NY Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, who is represented by Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports, is now unhappy after the ink was dry from signing his new contract with the Giants because he realized that he was underpaid for what he was really worth. According to some sports talk radio reports his former agent allegedly stated he could have gotten him more but he chose to go with Roc Nation Sports. Big business politics aside, Jay Pharoah’s skit is hilarious. Only 1 or 2 comedians can do a great job on the Sean Carter impressions Like Aaries Spears.

ESPN First Take: Master P States His Opinions On Jay Z Entering The Sports Agency Business (Video)

The first rapper to enter into the world of representing pro athletes was Master P. By now everyone should be familiar with the infamous deal that former NFL running back Ricky Williams signed with the New Orleans Saints that didn’t go over well in his favor. Master P stopped by ESPN’s First Take to speak with Stephen A. Smith & Skip Bayless to give his opinion on Jay Z’s entrance into the world of sports agency. Having dealt with the ups & downs of formerly running his no defunct NO LIMIT SPORTS agency, it was interesting to see Master P choose his words carefully without being negative or discouraging even though it feels like he’s saying it may not be the best move for a few parties involved.

Whose Rhymes Are The Deepest? Tahir Hemphill’s Hip-Hop Word Count Has An Answer (Video)

You’ve probably argued with folks about which emcees’ rhymes displayed lyrical skill… and whose were garbage. Ever wish you had some statistical standard by which you could settle the argument? Well… Harvard University’s WEB Du Bois Hip-Hop Archive Institute Fellow Tahir Hemphill wanted the same thing – a way to mathematically measure the educational level of Hip-Hop lyrics. The result: Hip-Hop Word Count, an online searchable database with over 40,000 rap songs from 1979 to present. The application figures word count, average syllables per word, average letters per syllable, longest polysyllabic word, and educational level needed to grasp the meaning of a song’s lyrics. Hip-Hop Word Count also counts “cleverness” (use of similes, metaphors, cultural references, and rhyme patterns). The final score is a number between 0 (illiterate) to 20 (post-graduate degree).

So, how do some of rap’s standards measure up? Rakim’s “Microphone Fiend” scores 16, as does Jay-Z’s “Dead Presidents 2.” The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Warning” gets 11, and so does Lil Wayne’s “I’m Me.” 50 Cent’s “I Get Money” comes in at a 7.

The program can also find out when a particular word or phrase (like references to champagnes or the word ‘Hater’) first appeared in a rap song and how many times it has been mentioned since.

PLUS: Using Hip-Hop Word Count and its features, Hemphill makes some interesting observations about the state of Hip-Hop and society above. Bonus clip after the jump below.
