Politics/Comedy: Jon Stewart Calls Bullsh** on Paul Ryan’s Budget Plan (Video)

Trust them. Republican candidates for U.S. President and Vice President, former Governor Mitt Romney and Representative Paul Ryan, have a budget plan. What’s that? You want details and numbers? Come on, we don’t have time for them to explain his numbers. Just trust that Mr. Ryan has run them, and they are sound. Sound good?

Well, on The Daily Show, host Jon Stewart more than implied that that sounds… smells… like BULL-to-the-SHI… er… MALARKEY (as Vice President Joe Biden said)! Do you, American citizen, trust – without any disclosure or independent review of the numbers – that the Romney/Ryan budget will do all that they promise? DON’T! Take a lesson from history… and the video above.

(Oh, and by the way, ‘that guy’ did win. Watch the video.)

CyHi The Prynce – “James Harden” Freestyle

That beat is NICE!

Okay. Underrated at first; now first off the bench with with a premier squad, CyHi The Prynce could be considered the “James Harden” of his team – G.O.O.D. Music. Drafted third overall in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Oklahoma City Thunder sixth man Harden is a fitting metaphor for CyHi at this point in his career. He “might not be the richest” but he definitely “ain’t starving.” More than that, emcees that come at CyHi weak can end up getting straight embarrassed in this game called Hip-Hop! Stream the Harden-inspired freestyle here.

“You’re only as relevant as your record!” Damn right, 50. And he’s been putting out some heaters recently, by the way. So, 50’s taking some well-deserved time off to play around at Fox… or is he. Nah! Dude is staying relevant…maybe even “auditioning” for a spot on the network. Might be having fun, but it’s not a game. A’ight then, 50.

Comedy: Stephen Colbert Gets Deep Into ‘Vagina’ (Video)

Okay, that title doesn’t read right. See, Naomi Wolf has this vagina… I mean she has this book… “Vagina”… and Naomi Wolf’s “Vagina” is good! And she talks with Stephen Colbert, who gets into it with her (deep). The book… It explores low sexual desire among women, anatomy of the vagina, and America’s outdated views on sex. Good video. As good as “Vagina”… the book.

(Oookaaayy, the views expressed in this post are mine… yada yada yada. Hahahaaaa! Don’t want y’all pinning my perversion on JayForce.)

If You Know Your Hip Hop Then You Should Know ‘The Meters’ (Video)

The Meters doing it live!Okay, we know that Public Enemy and N.W.A. have been nominated for 2013 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (R&R HOF). East coast and west coast legends… so that’s all the Hip-Hop represented in this batch, right? Wrong! “The South got something to say,” as Andre 3000 said. We forgot to tell you that The Meters were nominated, too. Please tell me you know about The Meters

The Meters were not only the leading instrumental unit to emerge from the great musical gumbo of New Orleans, they were also one of the tightest and hardest-grooving ensembles R&B has ever seen…formed in 1965 with a lineup of keyboardist and vocalist Art Neville, guitarist Leo Nocentelli, bassist Geroge Porter Jr. and drummer Joseph “Zigaboo” Modeliste… later joined by percussionist/vocalist Cyril Neville… the group became familiar to a new audience when its records were sampled countless times by the likes of Run-DMC, N.W.A., Public Enemy and the Beastie Boys. Meters songs have been covered by everyone from the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Grateful Dead, illustrating the far-reaching influence of these masters of funk.’

– The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame and Museum

NOW, Hip-Hop is represented among the 2013 nominees. Well done, R&R HOF. Well done!

Technology: Five Everyday Gadgets Inspired by Sci-Fi (Video)

Y’all KNOW by now that I am a Trekkie; so at least one of the five things shared in this post shouldn’t surprise you. Respect to Joel Willans at Conversations by Nokia for the cool discussion that inspired this post.

Gadget 1: LASER

Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation, or LASER technology, is so commonplace in its use today it may be hard to remember that it was once a super-futuristic fictional concept. So, how far back does laser-talk go? Well, science fiction literature from as early as 1898 talks of a “heat ray” that is easily understood to be the forerunner of today’s tech borne of developmental research from the 1960s.

Gadget 2: Satellites

Science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke (the man behind the film and book, “2001: a Space Odyssey”) wrote an article for the magazine Wireless World back in 1945!

Gadget 3: Tablet Computers

Clarke also wrote about a flat panel ‘newspad’ in his work “Space Odyssey” that let folks read Earth newspapers as they traveled the stars… in 1968.

Gadget 4: Debit Cards

In his 1888 novel, “Looking Backward,” Edward Bellamy described ‘a piece of pasteboard’ that was used by customers to pay for goods at shops, in lieu of cash.

Gadget 5: Smartphone

Hey, you knew this one was coming. Heck, you may even be reading this post on a smartphone via the JayForce.com mobile app (obvious plug, no shame)! Already admitting to patterning the now passe flip phone after the communicator on the 1960s science fiction TV series “Star Trek,” Nokia and other companies have put out mobile phones with mapping locator tech that lets the holder and others know their exact location. See the video clip above: Looks like sci-fi suggested how crucial a mobile locator function could be (for last second emergency beam-up) way back when, right?

Technology rules, baby! Kirk out.

Technology: U.S. Military Considering a Pokémon Inspired Gun? (Video)

CAUTION: The YouTube post said some “kids went into seizures” upon viewing this Pokémon cartoon episode.

Shout to Heather Fairchild over at AtlantaCareerPath.com for the initial scoop on this.

According to documents acquired by Wired.com, through a private U.S. citizen’s Freedom of Information Act request, the U.S. Army kicked around the idea of disabling enemy combatants with blasts of electromagnetic energy. Amazingly, the idea inspired by a Pokémon cartoon episode (see excerpt above). Here is a passage on the proposed nonlethal weapon technology:

‘Application of “electromagnetic pulses” could force neurons to all fire at once, causing a “disruption of voluntary muscle control,” reads a description of a proposed seizure weapon, contained in a declassified document from the US Army’s National Ground Intelligence Centre. “It is thought by using a method that would actually trigger nerve synapses directly with an electrical field, essentially 100 per cent of individuals would be susceptible to seizure induction.”‘

Wowwww. Talk about high-tech warfare!

The XX – “Chained” (Video)

The above music video is… beautiful. The words that follow describe it beautifully. Read… and watch!

‘Establishing themselves as purveyors of good music transcending genre, [The xx] toured the world creating fans in its every corner, each show building a larger audience to eagerly anticipate their next release. Three years after their debut, the follow up finally dropped last month. Coexist, the sophomore release from The xx, strips down their sound even further, getting to the essence of what makes their music so affective and relatable.

“Chained,” the second single off the album, embodies this reduction perfectly, with all the somber intensity that is distinctly xx and nothing more.

In conjunction with The Creators Project, bringing this lament to life is LA video production crew Young Replicant… Applying their abstract narrative style to “Chained,” the team brought to life a story conceived by The xx’s Romy Madley Croft that takes place underwater. With the same simplicity of their music, each of the band members plays a part within this setting. As Croft describes it, “No vignettes, just three individual journeys.”’

Abdullah Saeed, The Creators Project
