R&B/Soul: John West – ‘Lovely’ feat. Pusha T

One of my friends swears that I’ve seen John West perform while I was in L.A. on a visit but I can’t honestly remember. I gave her the ‘Oh ok’ acknowledgement, but I didn’t have much of a clue. I’ve seen a gazillion new artists perform in my lifetime. Apparently John West has been around for a while having been in rock bands & is now a solo artist signed to Island/Def Jam. I didn’t expect much when I came across this song in my email except for the fact that this song ‘Lovely’ was featuring Pusha T. I’m glad I checked this out because this joint is hot! John West seems like a mix between John Legend & Robin Thicke & I wouldn’t be surprised if the label was trying to push him into that ‘blue eyed soul’ lane. The positive side is John West doesn’t sound like anyone else in R&B/Soul today vocally speaking. This particular song reminds me of Kanye West’s ‘Heard Em Say’ from a musical perspective so I wonder if Yeezy had something to do with the collaboration in some way…..

Before this blog was in existence one of my favorite groups out of Atlanta, Clan Destined, shot this interview with TheNewContent so I felt the need to bring this interview back to re-introduce those of yall who may not be familiar with Clan D! This duo are a definite triple threat when it comes to hip hop. They are both DJs, Emcees, & both are producers! Above all else they always deliver a dope ass stage show. If you love hip hop & you live in Atlanta then you already know how dope these brothas are, but if not check out the video & familiarize yourself. Back then I remember people saying it was an odd collaboration that worked because Nate Dogg was just so West Coast G-Funk while Mos Def & Pharoahe were firmly cemented in New York’s hardcore underground hip hop scene.
