Latinos Converting To Islam (Documentary)

What so-called religions that promise ‘salvation’ can truly forget is the SAVING. What the dude says in here about why he converted to Islam, how it truly SAVED him… He was not speaking of a ‘magical’ event or a sudden ‘newness’ feeling (set to orchestral music or something). Rather, he was speaking of Islam SAVING his life in an UNDERSTANDABLE way that brought joy to his soul and meaning to his life. ‘Survival mode’ to a ‘revival’ by way of the Quran.

Latinos are one of the fastest growing groups within Islam in America. VICE’s Lee Adams travels to Houston Texas, the home of America’s first Islam in Spanish center, to investigate what’s behind this phenomenon and how America’s current political climate might be related.

Another great VICE documentary.

Meet A Muslim (Video)

It’s high time for tolerance folks! Hug someone different than you… today (with permission)! I know I am preaching to the choir, because you are on here. Shout to our visitors, extended fam, because y’all “get” a lot of what’s posted here (and it’s still love when you don’t). And I know you’ll get this… I got a li’l choked up right from the start of this… When the lady said, “I am a human. I am a mom.”

Man. My mom is my HEART! Okay…

Yes, this “Meet A Muslim” is all that you’d expect. You probably know and celebrate some or all this in yourselves and in/with your Muslim friends and associates. But maybe play this within earshot of folks who may not ‘get it’ like you do. This is bound to soften a heart and/or open an eye or three. Great short video!

Muslim Counter-Protest Strategy: Kindness Conquers Hate And Fear (Video)

So, another dope clip from AJ+ shows up in my Facebook feed: This time about a one-woman Anti-Muslim protest outside a mosque in Ohio. Police were on hand, and it could have gone badly but… well, I won’t spoil the clip. However, what I will do is embed The Young Turks commentary on the clip above. Sure, they have a boldly liberal slant on almost all things; but I always admire the way they come with a combination level-headed delivery and passion in their interpretation. Same here. The original clip, which I’m betting you will love, appears after the jump. But TYT head honcho Cenk and analyst Ana above… They will make you think. Good stuff!

One of the anti-Muslim rallies that happened in the country didn’t have the best turnout. A protest in Ohio only attracted one demonstrator. She was greeted by Muslim protestors who wanted to educate her on their religion. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian (The Point) hosts of The Young Turks discuss.

VICE: The Devil Tried To Divide Us (Documentary)

There are REASONS we have rules for wars… that nations declare war, seek coalitions before they do, and convene war crimes courts after. The ongoing tragedy in the Central African Republic though… Damn. There have been no rules, no understandings, and countless crimes against humanity… for DECADES… and it has just gotten worse! VICE News is taking us there. They have to, so we can try to understand. Watch above.

The Central African Republic’s capital of Bangui has seen its Muslim population drop from 130,000 to under 1,000 during the past few months. Over the past year, thousands across CAR have been killed, and nearly a million have been displaced. The United Nations recently stated that the entire Western half of the country has now been cleansed of Muslims…

MOOZ-lum Theatrical Trailer

Looking forward to seeing this film in the near future especially considering the social & political mirrors taking place. Here’s more about the film:

“Pulled between his strict Muslim upbringing by his father and the normal social life he’s never had, Tariq Mahdi (Evan Ross) enters college in a state of confusion. New relationships with Muslims and non-Muslims alike challenge his already shaken ideals, and the estrangement with his mother and sister troubles him. With the help of new friends, family and mentors, he begins to find himself and open up to an Islam he hasn’t been exposed to. But when the attacks of 9/11 happen without warning, he is forced to face his past and make the biggest decisions of his life.

Written and directed by Qasim Basir, Mooz-lum is one of the first-ever American feature films depicting the life of a young Muslim-American. The all-star cast includes: Danny Glover (Dreamgirls, The Color Purple), Nia Long (Are We There Yet, Love Jones), Roger Guenveur Smith (American Gangster, Do The Right Thing), Summer Bishil (The Last Airbender, Towelhead) and Evan Ross (ATL, Pride). ”

I’m looking forward to catching this film when it debuts in select theaters. Hopefully Atlanta will be one of the chosen cities when it’s released February 11th. You can still cast your vote for the film to be screened in your city today by making sure you go to: http://www.eventful.com/moozlum
