VH1: CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story (Biopic) [Video]
The movie heard about ’round the Internetz… aka CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story was on VH1 a couple nights ago. VH1’s biopic starred Keke Palmer, Drew Sidora, and Lil’ Mama depicted the R&B trio’s (e.g. Chili, T-Boz, and Left Eye) real life which traces their highs and lows in the music industry (and in their lives as a result). Some incredible insights and ‘wow’ in the movie to be certain – especially singer-turned-exec Pebbles portrayed as the ultimate ‘Industry Rule Number 4,080’ type, being real shady with regard to TLC’s early career. As far as validity: CrazySexyCool had the help and blessing of two surviving members of TLC (R.I.P. Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes) who appear at the end of the film, performing their new single “Meant To Be”). Most social network posts the night the movie’s premiere were pretty good. Watch it (again, perhaps) above.
To peep some interviews that shed light on aspects of the TLC Story (which shed some light), see the clips after the jump.
R&B: Cressida – “We Living Life” (Video)
Went a little out of the Hip-Hop genre to shine the spotlight on some good R&B for the last Beatz & Lyrics Show. Hope you were listening and checking your Instagrams. You can still do that and catch the show archives; but ain’t nothing like the real thing baby! And this baby… this baby right here ninja… Whew! Words cannot describe the loveliness that is Cressida. So watch the video. High ‘honey’ factor; but note that the music shows she can deliver the goods on that front, too. Here’s “We Living Life.” Follow @LoveCressida too. Shout to Khalid Salaam for hitting us with the link after the show.

Jared Evan has created his own Boom Bap & B lane and he’s running all the lights! Check out this dopenesss (with 3 sss)… video for his “State I’m In” cut off “Basement Chronicles.”
R&B: Melanie Fiona – “Cold Piece” (Video)
Canadian songstress Melanie Fiona with visuals for “Cold Piece.†The content of the song is cold; but it’s kind of hard to feel sad or mad for long… especially with sexy Melanie serving up treats in the Brooklyn streets. Watch and enjoy.
Robert Glasper feat. Jill Scott – “Calls” (Video)
Robert Glasper’s new single featuring Jill Scott entitled ‘Calls’ is one of my favorite new R&B/Soul joints over the past month or so. It’s not uncommon for me to replay a great song over & over again after hearing it for the very first time. Robert Glasper & Jill Scott’s collaborative piece would be no exception to that process of mine. The single will appear on Robert Glasper’s upcoming project “Black Radio 2” featuring many artists such as Dwele, Faith Evans, Common, Norah Jones, Snoop Dogg, & more due October 29th on Blue Note Records. You can pre-order the album below, but for now check out the almost dream-like yet creative new video for ‘Calls’ above….

Marian Mereba x Yamin Semali – “Sinking Ships” (Â¥$ Remix)
The Atlanta homie, DJ, emcee, & producer Yamin Semali sent over this dope ass remix of ‘Sinking Ships’ by fellow ATL resident, by way of Philly, Marian Mereba. The original version appears on her 10-track ‘Room For Living’ EP that’s available now. Not only did Yamin produce this dope remix, but he also delivers a few bars that compliment the ‘dopest Ethiopian’s’ song perfectly. This is that uncut dopeness! I had this joint on repeat several times after I initially hit ‘play’. I’m definitely diggin’ the remix as much as the original & I’m sure you will too…

R&B: Erykah Badu – “On & On” (Booty Fade Remix)
Very dope remix. So many ways I could go with the title for this “Booty Fade Remix” of Erykah Badu’s “On & On.” But I’ll just chill to this track instead. For now. I reserve the right to come back at that booty later. Ha!

Charlie Wilson Speaks With ‘SoulCulture TV’ On His Musical Longevity, His Battle With Cancer (Video)
The Gap Band’s lead man… Uncle Charlie… four decades and going strong in the music game! Wow. Charlie Wilson is a legend. But in the above interview, Charlie Wilson gives insight on his human side as well – talking about how he’s kept going string in the music industry, his work with Kanye West and admiration for other artists, his battle with prostate cancer and more.
9th Wonder – “Bladey Mae” (Grandma’s Blades) [Beat Tape]
“This past weekend, I met my grandma, Beulah Mae Jarrett Douthit’s family (my dad’s mother) for the first time. My grandma passed in 1965, so I’ve had no connection to her at all. I listened to the elders talk about her all day. One elder in particular, her oldest niece, who’s 78-years-old, told me that her nickname was ‘Bladey Mae,’ because of the blades she carried around in the purse and pockets, to protect her children from a segregated South, one of them being my dad. I was looking for a name for a new beat tape, and that one just came out of nowhere.
Here’s to you Beulah Mae Jarrett Douthit and the blades you carried to protect pops……‘Bladey Mae’…â€

R&B: Jennifer Hudson – “I Can’t Describe (The Way I Feel)” feat. T.I. [Prod. By Pharrell Williams]

‘Feels so good it hurts’ is officially what every heterosexual male wants to hear Jennifer Hudson sing into his ear. Cot dam! Well, shout to SoulBounce for bringing her “I Can’t Describe (The Way I Feel)” joint to our attention with her doing just that… with an assist from super-producer Pharrell Williams and consummate southern rhyme-sayer T.I.
“Channeling a bit of the late ’70s/early ’80s R&B sound (think Cheryl Lynn or Evelyn “Champagne” King), the producing dynamo delivers the perfect dance floor groove for Hudson’s larger-than-life vocals. The groove walks the fine line between retro and modern, finally giving us an uptempo track that works with Jen rather than forcing the diva to conform to the song. And the addition of T.I., who could teach a class on how to guest rap on an R&B track, keeps the groove going without distracting from the star of the show.”

BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge: “Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)†With Justin Timberlake (Video)
Justin Timberlake covers the Jacksons’ “Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)” in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge. As Michael Jackson is the King of Pop, an icon like Justin – who’d be heir to that throne – should rock a Jackson hit whenever opportunity presents itself.
Jill Scott Stops By The Breakfast Club To Promo Her New Movie, Talk About Music, And More (Video)
Jill Scott doing the promo rounds on radio. We posted her interview at Hot 97, and now we got that Power 105 chit-chat with The Breakfast Club on Power 105 for you. She talks about her upcoming “Baggage Claim†film (which also features Paula Patton, Adam Brody, Djimon Hounsou, Taye Diggs, Christina Milian, and Derek Luke), about a recent trip to Africa, about her acting, her music and more.
Drake – “Hold On, We’re Going Home” feat. Majid Jordan (Video)
I haven’t heard Drake’s new album “Nothing Was The Same” yet, but I do know I really dug this particular soulful single called “Hold On, We’re Going Home”. Great choice to release a brand new video for this song. This mini-movie features cameos from rapper ASAP Rocky as well as actor Steven Bauer who famously starred as Al Pacino’s right hand man “Manolo” in the movie “Scarface”. I still dig the song although this mini-movie didn’t fit what I mentally pictured for such a great R&B record.
Jill Scott Talks About Her New Movie ‘Baggage Claim’, Future, A$AP Rocky, & Reflects On Her Start In Music Business (Video)
Jilly From Philly! Peter Rosenberg (and DJ Cipha Sounds) recently welcomed soul songstress Jill Scott to sit and chat on Hot 97’s The Juan Epstein Show. During the chat Jill plugs her upcoming movie “Baggage Claim,” reveals that she has actually been acting for decades, that she thinks Future and A$AP Rocky are beautiful, that she wrote the hook for The Roots’ “You Got Me” (uncredited, sang by Erykah Badu), ultimately getting her real start in music while staining wood at DJ Jazzy Jeff‘s studio… Great interview. The above video is only part of the interview. Audio for the full interview is available for streaming below.
