Ever wonder how a multi-million-dollar-earning athlete goes broke by the end of a career? Sure you have. Well, Jalen Rose knows. For real… and he puts the usual suspects on blast (above): starting that record company, creating that clothing line, giving out personal loans (that will never be repaid), having too many kids, divorce… The list got long… and Rose admitted to couple of his own dollar-draining mistakes: copping a Mansion bracelet and a Vertu phone. Nice… but not that nice. Save your money. Take heed up-and-coming millionaires.

Storytime With Jalen Rose: Stealing Patrick Ewing’s Television (Video)

I’m enjoying these little known NBA stories that Jalen Rose has been dropping! They’re downright hilarious for multiple reasons from the mischievous way he tells them to all the compounding & humorous elements that take place each step of the way. In this particular segment, the former NBA star & current basketball analyst speaks about a time he had a little beef with Patrick Ewing when his ‘Detroit Instincts’ kicked it to get the better of the New York Knicks big man. Purrrrre hilarity.

Jalen Rose and Patrick Ewing never liked each other, so Jalen stole Patrick Ewing’s television. Not just any television either – a television with a VCR attachment.” – Grantland

Comedy: Jalen Rose Says He Was Hazed By Dikembe Mutombo (Video)

Another story from Jalen Rose: He explains (above) how NBA rookies get hazed. Sharing one of his own hazing stories, Rose recounts when he was sent to make a late night drugstore run for Dikembe Mutombo for “adult supplies.” Hahahaaaaa! That “cookie man” voice Rose uses in imitating Mutombo cracks me up!

Kyrie Irving Presents: Uncle Drew Part 2 (Video)

OLD SCHOOL, YOUNG BLOOD!! Hahaaaaa. Cleveland Cavaliers’ Kyrie Irving revists his “Uncle Drew” character for the second time teaming up with the legendary Boston Celtics Bill Russell & Minnesota Timberwolves Kevin Love in this funny clip. “I gets Buckettssssss”

‘Uncle Drew visits with a basketball legend who sends him on a mission to go out and get his old team back together. His first stop —- Los Angeles, CA. Players and spectators at the basketball court were told that they would be filmed for some “basketball b-roll footage” for a local TV station. Sports: 50 Cent Drops In On The ‘FOX NFL Pre-Game Show’ (Video)

50 Cent took over at the Fox NFL Sunday Pre-Game show. Dopenesss! He uploaded the video, too, in case y’all missed it. See?

https://twitter.com/50cent/status/258776330089414656

“You’re only as relevant as your record!” Damn right, 50. And he’s been putting out some heaters recently, by the way. So, 50’s taking some well-deserved time off to play around at Fox… or is he. Nah! Dude is staying relevant…maybe even “auditioning” for a spot on the network. Might be having fun, but it’s not a game. A’ight then, 50.

Ray Lewis Says He’s Not Waiting For His Son In The NFL (Video)

This may very well be future hall of famer & Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis’s last year in the NFL. In many ways I’m rooting for Ray Lewis & the Baltimore Ravens to get back to the Super Bowl one last time for Ray although I’m an Oakland Raiders fan. Some people had minor hopes that Ray Lewis would hold on in the NFL a few more years, long enough to be in the league to play against or with his son Ray Lewis III. In this interview Ray Lewis speaks about his son who will be attend the University Of Miami as a freshman running back, but Ray Lewis clearly states he has no plans to keep playing in the league should his son enter the NFL draft in the future. If it did happen that would be something very special to see, but we all can sense that Ray is retiring after this season.

Brooklyn Nets Claim To Have The Most High-Tech Arena In Pro Sports (Video)

Take a look around Brooklyn’s new super high-tech stadium, The Barclays Center. “The most high-tech stadium in sports” – that’s the pitch line for the new home of the Brooklyn Nets. The Verge posted a writeup with some tantalizing tech particulars:

‘…free Wi-Fi that’s designed to support a packed house full of smartphone-wielding fans, LTE and 3G service from the four major carriers and sponsor MetroPCS, and an app that lets fans order and pay for food from their seats without having to stand in concession lines. There’s also 8,000 square feet of LED signage, including a three-story tall 1080p center-hung scoreboard and the highlight feature of the entire stadium: the Oculus, a 360-degree LED marquee that encircles the outer pavilion.’

The arena has a ‘hyper-local’ setting, too, according to The Verge. All the restaurants inside the arena are Brooklyn businesses – including Fatty ‘Cue barbeque, Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs, and Brooklyn Cupcakes. There is even an outpost of the 40/40 Club. By the way, the Club’s owner (and celebrity face man for the Nets franchise), Jay-Z will kick off inaugural ceremonies this weekend at The Barclays Center headlining in a series of sold-out shows (other shows will feature Barbra Streisand, Justin Bieber, and The Who). The tech… the shows…Well.. Do it big then!

Snoop Dogg Talks Sports with ESPN (Video)

ESPN posted some coolness on their visit with Snoop Dogg (they still call him Snoop Dogg… he said it’s Snoop LION now maaannnn) the other day. (Jayforce note: I still can’t get used to “Snoop Lion” so I’ll just shorten it to “Snoop” then.) Snoop knows a little something about sports – talking the talk about basketball (e.g. about the Los Angeles Lakers) and football. He even kicked the soccer ball around a bit. Good stuff! Start with the video above, then continue with the clips posted after the jump.

“42” [Movie Trailer] (Video)

https://twitter.com/Jayforce_/status/249408344459202561

Jackie Robinson was one of my heroes & one of the reasons I wore number “42” while playing football in high school & college. The crazy thing is… I was never into baseball that much, but my family was: My Uncle Charles and my Grandmother first taught me about Jackie Robinson. People important to me imparted the wisdom of why #42 was so significant to sports, this country, Black people, & to ALL people. And I am glad they did. You have to understand that Jackie Robinson was not only a great athlete in football, track, & variety of other sports, but he also excelled in the military. If you’ve been following my blog you may have seen me post pics of the 761st Black Panther Tank Division during World War II.  Jackie Robinson was a part of that historic team of black U.S. servicemen in the 761st Black Panther Tank Battalion. (761st.com)  It’s easy to see how Jackie Robinson’s significance extends well beyond just sports. Here’s the PR text that accompanied the YouTube video trailer for the movie (above):

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures are teaming up with director Brian Helgeland for “42,” the powerful story of Jackie Robinson, the legendary baseball player who broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier when he joined the roster of the Brooklyn Dodgers. “42” will star Academy Award(R) nominee Harrison Ford (“Witness”) as the innovative Dodger’s general manager Branch Rickey, the MLB executive who first signed Robinson to the minors and then helped to bring him up to the show, and Chadwick Boseman (“The Express”) as Robinson, the heroic African American who was the first man to break the color line in the big leagues.

Now, if Hollywood could just find another artist besides Jay-Z to feature on the soundtrack & movie trailer for every movie about Black people. That’s the part of it all that gets so damn annoying to me. What’s wrong with using some black music from the time period this movie actually takes place in. Although Jackie Robinson played for the Brooklyn Dodgers, he was a man from Cairo Georgia just 200 miles south of Atlanta. A more appropriate song to use for the trailer would have been something from that time period or where he was from in the south. I vented about this on my twitter page over the weekend so I’ll just stop right here. I still look forward to seeing the film, but I wish Hollywood respect the black music from the times. It’s the reason why young kids today in 2012 don’t respect Jazz, Blues, & other forms of black music because they begin to think black music only started with rap music. Jackie Robinson’s legacy pre-dates hip hop & Jay-Z & his historical significance as an individual is even greater.

Tre Mason, Son of ‘De La Soul’s Maseo, Is A Young Upcoming College Football Star (Video)

Ah… kids today… with their Waka Flocka music and their NCAA Division I football scholarships… and WHOOAAAA! That’s right! Tre Mason, Auburn University’s young return man and running back has definitely made his pop proud…on the field, at least… Hahaaa! See, the second-year Freshman really is a Waka Flocka fan; though his dad (DJ Maseo of the legendary group De La Soul) has caught him listening to some Golden Era Hip-Hop on occasion.

I caught commentary about Mason as Auburn won its nail-biter against Lousiana-Monroe last weekend. After the game, I searched the ‘Net and found articles and video (like that shared above) on the up-and-coming gridiron star. Good stuff. Keep it up, kid! Read the nice article on Tre linked after the jump.

Full disclosure: Though I do wish the best for young Tre, I cannot root for him every game week. You see, I am a two-time alum of The University of Alabama (Auburn’s cross-state rival). See you at the Iron Bowl, young Mason. Heh heh hehhh… Roll Tide!

NFL Legend & Analyst Steve Young Says The NFL Doesn’t Care About Bad Refs & Player Safety (Video)

I watched last night’s Monday Night Football game as the Atlanta Falcons avoided a comeback win by the Denver Broncos 27-21, but Peyton Manning’s poor play in the first half wasn’t the most conspicuous thing that was terrible last night.  The officiating is getting worse to the point its beginning to affect the quality of the game. We’ve just completed the second week of the NFL season & it’s apparent that the replacement refs the league are using need to go. The rapid erosion in their ability to control the momentum of game, the players & their spats on-field, & in getting a number of crucial calls right are showing up frequently. One replacement referee had to be removed from a Saints Vs. Panthers game after he was exposed as being an admitted diehard New Orleans Saints fan.  A glaringly clear conflict of interest. Especially if these 10th string referees have any type of gambling problem. NFL Hall of Fame Quarterback & football analyst Steve Young said what many of us was thinking last night when he spoke on how the perception is the NFL doesn’t care about player safety or the increasingly poor performance of the referees. The NFL needs to get the official NFL referees back on the field before someone gets hurt & the league begins to damage it’s reputation.

2 Chainz Was A High School Basketball Star In Metro Atlanta (Video)

2 Chainz!! Once a budding basketball star, we might have just as easily been cheering “2 Points” for Mr. Chainz (real name Tauheed Epps). Here’s a clip that ESPN unearthed of him straight clowning on the court during his high school days on January 17, 1995, Chainz wearing No. 21 in blue representing North Clayton High School in College Park, Georgia)! The Bankhead bounce at the end of the clip is hilarious…

NFL WR Calvin “Megatron” Johnson Featured On ESPN’s ‘E:60’ Program (Video)

Calvin “Megatron” Johnson is arguably the most dominant wide receiver in the NFL today & ESPN’s E:60 program did a feature on him that I had watched live when it aired. Despite being nicknamed “Megatron” by his teammates & doing well in the league, Calvin Johnson appears to be a very grounded, non-diva attitude wearing wide receiver in the NFL. This mini-documentary hosted by ESPN’s Lisa Salters does provide some insight as to who Megatron really is when he transforms off the field into Calvin Johnson.
