R&B: Melanie Fiona – “Cold Piece” (Video)

Canadian songstress Melanie Fiona with visuals for “Cold Piece.” The content of the song is cold; but it’s kind of hard to feel sad or mad for long… especially with sexy Melanie serving up treats in the Brooklyn streets. Watch and enjoy.

VICE: Racism At The University Of Alabama – Problem NOT Solved (Video)

It’s a shame that there are some societal ills, like racism, that we cannot seem to move beyond… even in this, the 21st century. Admittedly, The University of Alabama has much to be proud of – certainly its back-to-back NCAA football championships tops among them. But just as we had observed how far UA has come since its campus’ integration (see the R.I.P. James Hood post here), racism at The Capstone is exposed once again.

“In 1963, in the midst of the heated debate over the desegregation of American schools, The University of Alabama announced that it would for the first time allow African Americans to enroll. Fifty years later, in September 2013, two University of Alabama sororities rejected an African American student because of her race. As a result, an anti-racist student group called the Mallet Assembly and other members of the community took action to prevent segregation within the university’s Greek system.”

– VICE

So sad. An embarrassment on so many levels: A majority of UA students have likely moved on from notions in step with its segregated past; but a significant number of students (and more important, institutions and organizations they join) have not. UA sororities, students and alumni, all should find it harder to yell “Roll Tide” with pride. And if the shame was limited to the embarrassing actions of two sororities who wanted to stay ‘lily white’… that would be enough. BUT… as you see in the documentary short above, racial insensitivity is still very much a reality woven into the fabric of campus life at UA.

Damn… they’re still trying to keep black folk out of the swimming pool. Shameful. You MUST watch. Kudos to The Mallet Assembly and to VICE for bringing this to the forefront.

Actor ‘Ro Brooks’ Co-stars In Full-Length Toyota Avalon Ad with Idris Elba & In The Television Series ‘Sons Of Anarchy'(Video)

Last Saturday during my radio show our friend & actor “Ro Brooks” (The Wire, Sons Of Anarchy) made a surprise visit during our show.  He was in Atlanta filming a few top secret projects that at will be released in the near future. During the show he mentioned that he appears on the full-length version of the action-film influenced Toyota Avalon commercial with Idris Elba. I’ve seen the commercial on television, but didn’t actually see the full-length version of it until now.  He first appears around the 1:18 mark in this extended clip.

Ro Brooks also appears on the television series ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ as the character ‘Kettle’.  It’s a possibility his character ‘Kettle’ may get featured more on the show in future episodes.

Fresh Off The Boat With Eddie Huang: The Food, Festivals, & People Of Mongolia (Video)

Another Fresh Off The Boat with Eddie Huang. Hilarity and insight pepper over a culture and history lesson… you know how Eddie do. We certainly post enough of his videos on here. And we will continue to do so as long as he keeps hitting us with incredible travel content like this.

In this episode of Fresh Off the Boat, Eddie heads to Mongolia to take part in the Naadam festival, which celebrates the “three manly sports” — archery, horse racing, and Mongolian wrestling. Then he chats up some camel herders (politics) over a cup of home-brewed camel vodka. Eddie goes on to check out a meat market, an outdoor metal festival, and making some modern restaurant cuisine…and there will be sheep eyeballs (tasty). All this, and Eddie even makes an appearance on Mongol TV later.

Three parts… start above; and continue after the jump.

VICE: The Florida Mandingos (Documentary) [NSFW]

Although swinging culture in Atlanta is something I’m told is growing I can readily admit it’s a lifestyle that’s not for me. The racial element to interracial swinging is also one that is not that easy for many to comprehend as well, but in this ‘Vice Guide To Sex’ documentary we ran across featuring a Florida man by the name of Art Hammer, he attempts put into perspective as to why any man would be comfortable with another man having sex with his wife & the racial elments of the lifestyle. VICE reporter Alex Miller covers all the kinky angles for this story for VBS.TV. Although this is a news piece some of the video & content, although blurred out, is still strong & graphic so therefore it may Not be Safe For Work.

“VICE follows Art on a road trip leading up to a ‘Hot Chocolate’ party he’s hosting at a purpose built sex bungalow called the Shangri Lust. Along the way we meet the key players who make up the lifestyle: the insatiable wives and their cuckolded white husbands obsessed with sex with black men, and Art’s A-team, the crème de la crème of [The Florida] Mandingos.”

Technology: War Is Big Business, And The ‘Killer Robot’ Business Is About To Pick Up! (Video)

Another big “eff you” from the Military Industrial Complex to peace pushing organizations like the United Nations, Human Rights Watch and the International Committee for Robot Arms Control who want the world to cool it with the weapons tech advancements for just a minute… Big Tony Starks-style weapons system manufacturers like Northrop Gruman ‘modeled their products for the military last week at Fort Benning in Georgia, to judge how they could be used in combat. Lieutenant Col. Willie Smith said at the event that he hopes to unleash the killing machines onto the battlefield within five years—not as weapons their own right, but as trusted members of the squad.’

VICE: Ground Zero – Mali (Video)

This is the story of the Battle for Gao, the biggest city in Northern Mali. The French used to rule the region. They left. Militant extremist factions like Al Qaeda moved in… banned music and booze and basically anything they call “sin” and instituted HARSH punishments for violators and martial law. It’s Jihad on steroids on steroids. It’s just wrong. The Malian-French alliance forces are trying to stop this; but can they? VICE went over to give us an up close look… and some answers.

It’s basically the first legitimate combat footage to come out of the war there…[I]nsurgents came to us: they slipped into Gao overnight on small boats and used suicide bombers to blast their way into government buildings. The French left the fighting to the Malian army for most of the day as a test of their combat abilities. Malian soldiers, while very brave, are almost completely untrained and had great difficulty fighting less than a dozen jihadists, some of whom were children. They fired wild bursts of automatic fire everywhere, destroying the city center. The Malians soon ran out of ammunition and had to wait for the French to show up and save the day.

Revolt: A3C Festival Recap (Video)

“It just happened organically… That’s what so great about this whole sh!t. Everybody in Atlanta is in their own lane…”

FORTEBOWIE

Been talking about it. Been telling you don’t miss it. So, if you missed it… your bad. However, Revolt TV has done us all a solid with a recap of the five day festival.

‘The ninth annual A3C Hip-Hop Festival took over Atlanta last week, bringing together a slew of burgeoning and established artists, thousands of fans, and media and industry experts from all over the world. Originally founded as a three-day showcase that took place in one venue in Atlanta’s Midtown section, this year saw the fest spread to five days at multiple locations throughout the city.’

– Revolt TV

Check out the video from this year. It’s already America’s largest Hip-Hop festival; and it’s getting bigger and bigger, folks. Be sure to be there next year. We damn sure will!

“I really love what this conference represents. I love that most of the people that you see here are business-minded and it’s inspiring to see that Hip-Hop understands that instead of letting other companies and corporations brand us and make money off of us, we’re learning now how to brand ourselves to make our own money and income outside of just selling the music.”

Bun B (of UGK fame)

Along the vein of what we just posted from David Banner [on getting a handle on our Hip-Hop art and biz]. A3C has concerts, culture, and commerce going on all the while. Great event.

VICE: The Japanese Love Industry (Video)

‘In a society that commoditizes everything, sex sells, and the Japanese are buying!’

Ryan Duffy, VICE

VICE with another very interesting expo. We posted the one on successful women ‘hiring out’ for boyfriends a short while ago. So, what might happen to a society that, on the whole, does more ‘microwave dating’ than mating and creating families? VIBE found an answer… Less focus on family, and more focus on buying, has left Japan a nation that is dying.

‘Japan is a country that is dying—literally. Japan has more people over the age of 65 and the smallest number of people under the age of 15 in the world. It has the fastest negative population growth in the world, and that’s because hardly anyone is having babies. In these difficult times, the Japanese are putting marriage and families on the back burner and seeking recreational love and affection as a form of cheap escape with no strings attached. We sent Ryan Duffy to investigate this phenomenon, which led him to Tokyo’s cuddle cafes and Yakuza-sponsored prostitution rings.’
