Butta Verses – “That’s Me” (Produced By Lord Finesse)

Bronx-bred emcee Butta Verses (who now calls South Florida home) has returned after nearly a three-year hiatus with a Lord Finesse-produced track entitled “That’s Me.” The single is a leak promoting his yet-to-be-titled mixtape (due out September 18, 2012). The mixtape will include production from the likes of Marco Polo, The Mighty V.I.C. (The Beatnuts, Groove Merchantz, Ghetto Pros), and BeanOne (of Dyme Def). Should be dope. But for now, enjoy “That’s Me” for FREE at the link provided here.

Studio Session: Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) x Mannie Fresh Recording New Song Called “OMFGOD” (Video)

This is some dope behind-the-scenes video showing Yasiin Bey (the artist formerly known as Mos Def) vibing with Mannie Fresh over some of his beats… so much so it makes him drop some quick verses over them AND then pick up his pen. The resulting single, “OMFGOD,” should be out soon; but just to see Hip-Hop being made in this organic way… still… This is what Hip-Hop is at its essence! Yasiin has always mentioned that he wanted to work with Mannie Fresh. Need proof? Click on the videos posted above & below to see for yourself…

Evitan (Jarobi x Dres)- “Hot Damn” (Video)

EvitaN (Jarobi of A Tribe Called Quest and Dres of Black Sheep) are keeping it moving with another fresh joint. “Hot Damn” actually combines elements of old anthems from each of their groups, ATCQ and Black Sheep. This is how we take the old to the new / the new to the old / the old to the new. They are keeping that “Native” tongue tradition alive for 2012 as “Evitan” in reverse. The video for “Hot Damn” (above) – which weaves in live show footage – was directed and edited by Omar Akil. That’s wasup…

Happy belated birthday, SkyBlew! Actually, we have him to thank for OUR present, given on his birthday. So… thanks to SkyBlew for blessing us with this joint, “Sincerely, Mr. 22.” Very nice. Deal! This single, plus the “Your Dreams is Blew Reality” mixtape, should hold us down until the full-length (coming soon) is ready for release.

Influenced by his recent trip to Malabo Equatorial Guinea, Africa, producer/emcee MeLo-X is crafting a very unique Hip-Hop/R&B/Soul experience to be manifested in the form of his upcoming album “Zulu Guru” (due out October 15, 2012). Meleni Smith x Love Ultra Radio

We chat with Meleni Smith about her style, humble rise & grind in the industry and cover the transition to becoming a solo artist. With the creation of her current album ‘My Heart In Focus’, we found two tracks, ‘Only A Fool’ & ‘Love is my Disease’, the best showcase her vocal talent. She is surrounded by great record writers and vocalists from the beaches of California, to the top notch ‘Premier Studios’ in Manhattan. She still reps for Harlem, New York City and you get a true sense of the Hip-Hop influence just as much as pop. One of her tracks is scheduled to be featured on the next Love Ultra Radio Promotional Mix CD, just check back here at JayForce.com!

Dawn Richard – “Wild N’ Faith” (Video)

Dawn Richard is relentless in releasing great visuals from previous singles related to her “Armor On EP” she released back in March. This particular video is a combination of one of my favorite songs from her called “Wild N’ Young” that we posted back in May before it segues into “Faith” off of her Armor On EP. The ‘Wild N’ Young’ record was unreleased & didn’t appear on the EP so it’s possible it may turn up on her upcoming album. For an independent artist Dawn Richard is killing it with the the quality of the music & music videos while keeping her fans ready before she drops her official debut album “Goldenheart” on October 16th.

R&B/Soul: Res – “On The Radio” (Donna Summer Cover)

Philly native Res has done plenty of great work that often gets overlooked by mainstream audiences. Her 2001 debut album “How I Do” STILL gets significant run from me in my itunes. In addition to serving as 1/2 of the group Idle Warship with Talib Kweli, the soul/funk/rock songstress appears to keep busy by dropping new material whenever the timing is right. With the recent passing of the legendary Donna Summer back in May of this year, I assume Res didn’t quite fall victim to the music industry tactic of artists releasing waves of hastily recorded tributes that far too often seem to be self serving to capitalize on a moment. This Danophonic produced house music remake of Donna Summer’s 1979 classic “On The Radio” sounds nothing like the original,  but that’s also a part of charm of Res’s remake & what makes this remix of sorts sound so special.  Res put her own creative spin on the classic & I’m positive Donna Summer would appreciate how it feels like Res took her time with it & genuinely executed the classic in her own creative flavor. This remix needs some love “On The Radio”…

R.I.P. Michael Clarke Duncan

Sad, sad news to report. New York Daily News‎, E! Online‎, CNN, Chicago Tribune, and many other major news outlets have confirmed that actor Michael Clarke Duncan died at a Los Angeles hospital today after suffering a heart attack from which he could not recover. He was 54 years old. Best known for his larger-than-life Academy Award-nominated performance as death row inmate John Coffey in the 1999 film “The Green Mile,” our brother truly led a rich, fruitful life before and after that. Having worked as a ditch digger, then as a bodyguard, before landing a supporting role in “Armageddon,” the “Green Mile” star has walked a mile in shoes of every walk of life. But he never forgot where he came from. It was evident in the way Michael played even comedic roles with a presence that made viewers say, “I know that guy”; and he kept a presence in the community that made it easier to really “know that guy.”

We’re gonna miss that guy, Michael Clarke Duncan. Though we may finally make peace with him not being around or coming soon to a screen near you, we must never forget that the brother was just that – a brother – to us… all of us left to mourn. Rest in peace, Michael. Rest and God bless.

Technology: Scientists Extract Personal Secrets With The Use Of Commercial Hardware

(Read the full TechCrunch article here.)

Brain Hacking… is it just something they did in “The Matrix,” or is it really possible? READ THIS ARTICLE! It is more than possible. Commercially available technology has already been shown to increase the odds of guessing folks’ secrets (like PIN numbers and home addresses). Mind-reading tech has already been put into practical daily use, says Gregory Ferenstein of TechCrunch:

Brainwave-reading devices, which control computers hands-free, have become increasingly popular for entertainment, control of prosthetics for paralyzed individuals, and military application. The latest commercial versions of brain-reading devices, often used by researchers and software developers, can cost as little as $300 (the product pictured above is the “Emotiv“).

Just imagine a system that is designed to be at least as sophisticated as a cop or poker player using “tells” (non-verbal cues that allow one to guess what another is thinking or thinking of doing) to get information… to crack the case or win the game. That’s the “benefit.” But consider the darker side of this science…

Sean Price – “Smoov P”

Sean Price adds another alias to his list of monikers such as “Mic Tyson”, “P Body”, “Jesus Price Superstar”, & “Sean Mandela”. This new joint was supposed to be on Sean Price’s upcoming “Mic Tyson” project but he says he decided to put it up on the web after the producer leaked the song too early. I could imagine that Isley Brother’s sample would be hella hard to clear as well. Ladies & gentleman we introduce to you…. “Smoov P”.
