DJ Scratch Gives His List Of The ‘Top 5 DJs Of All-Time’ (Video)
Allhiphop.com caught up with DJ Scratch to find out his Top 5 DJs Of All-Time. Supposedly during Black History Month they will be asking notable DJs about their Top 5 DJs Dead Or Alive. What’s glaringly apparent is DJ Scratch’s omission of the legendary DJ Kid Capri. DJ Scratch must have some sort of unsaid beef with Kid Capri because the ‘Black italian’ doesn’t appear on DJ Scratch’s Top 5 or his Top 10. Aye!
Dirty Money: Last Ride From London (Video)
Honestly I think the Diddy-Dirty Money album wasn’t that bad of an album, but the primary thing that was distracting on it was Diddy himself. I didn’t think Puffy’s vocals was necessary on a few of the songs. Yeah they could have needed Diddy’s starpower to get more media interest in the group, but he could have pulled his presence back a little on some songs. Maybe he wanted to find a way to make sure the group succeeded from a publicity standpoint or still wanted to be an artist as well. I don’t know but I think Dirty Money could have succeeded without them being Diddy-Dirty Money if Puff played the back more from a vocalists perspective. In any case I found this interview on the web & thought it was interesting because the focus was on the female members of the group & not just Diddy. Not only did I dig the way it was shot, but I enjoyed the honest & open answers the ladies gave about the time leading up to the project & their relationship with each other.

88 Keys – Beats No More (Instrumentals)

Producer 88 Keys just decided to let go some beats for the masses that were laying around. Seems like he wrapped it up & called it ‘Beats No More’. All you aspiring emcees & singers might want to go through some of these beats. Personally I’m a guy that sometimes just like to listen to beats with no talking on them whatsoever. You can listen to more of them before downloading after the jump. If you’re not an artist of any kind & share a similar interest in just listening to beats like myself then you may want to go ahead & download these joints…..

Everyday is Black History: Rosa Parks (Feb 4,1913- Oct 25,2005)
Born on February 4, 1913, Rosa Parks, the mother of the Civil Rights Movement, was born in Tuskegee, Alabama as Rosa Louise McCauley. Her family background was diverse, a blend of African-American, Scots-Irish and Cherokee-Creek. After her parents, James and Leona, separated, Rosa and her family moved to Montgomery, Alabama, where she attended several schools until forced to care for her ailing grandmother and later, for her mother, too. Mos Def on DOOM (Video)
Always dope to see when hip hop artists show each other love. All the so called “Beef” is always magnified and blown up in the media. We don’t see enough props being given. Check how Mos quotes DOOM verses off the head word for word, showing that he isn’t just a dope artists himself, but a true fan of the culture. -Isreal

Cee-Lo Green Is Catching ‘Bodies’ With His New Movie Trailer
One of the standout tracks on Cee-Lo Green’s ‘Lady Killer’ album is a song called ‘Bodies’ produced by Salaam Remi. This trailer dropped a day or two ago which suggests it’s an upcoming movie featuring Kerry Washinton & Janelle Monae. I seriously doubt it’s a full length movie, but I assume it will be more of a epically cinematic video similar to the one Cee Lo dropped for ‘Bright Lights, Bigger City’. Not only did I enjoy the song, but I enjoyed the look & feel of the video for that one. In case you missed the video for ‘Bright Lights, Bigger City’ I’ve included it after the jump….

South Africa’s ‘Nonku Phiri’ Is A New Artist To Watch

Last year I touched down in South Africa for the first time ever. Whenever I visit any country I always keep my eyes & ears open to new music & talent. A month or two after I had already left I heard a song from a female artist that I thought was rather dope & tried to track down more of her music to get it on my ipod. The song I had been looking for was called “Zooot” by a young female artist by the name of ‘Nonku Phiri’ who is a native of Capetown, South Africa. I could tell she has plenty of raw natural talent & I’ve even peeped some of her stuff that appeared to be freestyles of unfinished work but sounded like it was fleshing out well. She’s been writing her own songs from what I’ve learned. A few of the songs I heard sounded like freestyles over the popular UK Garageband sounds but I get the impression ‘Nonku Phiri’ has immense potential to be successful on a variety of soundscapes. Recently she linked up with DJ Rasta Root & there’s talk of them possibly doing an EP together. I’ve been telling Rasta Root I think she could make some impact beyond South Africa on an international type level. With quality production & the right songs in this internet based era she could generate more fans tracking down her work the same way I sought out this particular Hip Hop Soul joint from her called “Zooot”. R&B/Soul: Algebra – ‘I Ain’t No Joke’ (Rakim Cover)

It’s not often an R&B/Soul artist can do a cover of a classic hip hop record although hip hop artists have sampled or interpolated R&B for years. Atlanta’s Algebra Blessett does a very good job with Rakim’s classic. She didn’t leave out the soul in her remake…..maybe she needs to redo Eric B & Rakim’s ‘I Know You Got Soul’ as well because she damn sure does. Yesterday Algebra taped an episode of the Monique Show with soul artist Anthony David with whom she recorded a quality song called ‘4evermore’ which was produced by the homie DJ Kemit.
